Today I found my bravery!

Waiting for my DD to come out from her after-school club, in her primary school. Saw the poster below. Whilst I was looking, the deputy head of the school was also collecting his DC at the same time, and said hello, asked if I was okay.

I pointed out to him that the wording was incorrect (gender, not sex, as it should be). He asked about what it was in the Equalities Act. I confirmed that the Equalities Act states sex, not gender. Therefore, the poster was not showing the 9 protected characteristics correctly, as they are stated in law (and everything else was named correctly 😡)

He thanked me for bringing it to his attention, as it wasn't something that they had produced, but as it was showing in their school, it did need to be correct.

I'll be checking again, next week, for the poster, when I next collect DD.

Today I found my bravery!

Well done OP!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/11/2022 18:15

Well done OP. Now maybe check their online equality, pastoral care and other policies to see it there are other professional issues they've outsourced to ill informed groups?
(once you start looking, this nonsense is everywhere😂)

BellaAmorosa · 24/11/2022 18:28

Good for you, @Vebrithien
🌟gold star!

LulooLemon · 24/11/2022 18:30

Proud of you OP

FemaleAndLearning · 24/11/2022 18:38

Fantastic. Well done! I'd be looking at No Outsiders too if they are in school no-outsiders.com/

ZeldaFighter · 24/11/2022 18:50

There are 9 protected characteristics. How do you get one wrong? Imagine if they missed off disability or race???

ZandathePanda · 24/11/2022 18:54

Would they help the outsider who doesn’t follow gender ideology in the sea of non- binary and pansexual identities in a school?

Vebrithien · 24/11/2022 18:55

Thank you.

The poster must be fairly new to the school, as I've not noticed it before, and I walk by it a couple of times a week.

Was also a bit bugged off to see that gender reassignment was put right, slap bang in the middle!

I have previously read the RSE/PHSE guidelines that they follow, and have found nothing concerning. May need to re-read.

I suspect it isn't helped by them having a Mx, gender-non-confirming/trans, unqualified teacher (HTLA, but the school is calling them a teacher), covering a maternity absence.

Sigh.

Well done, OP! What you said was courteous, straightforward, provably correct, and helpful. He'd been given a poster with wrong information on it, and now wants to put that right. He may in future have a little less trust in genderists.

I do hope he has the courage to change the wording, and to contact No Outsiders about giving false information under the guise of education.

Well, exactly!

I'm going to give it a week or so, and check up again. We use Class Dojo, so I can message every teacher individually, and I may just make that point to the deputy head.

If it's not removed.

Just a small point, it's the Equality Act. You're maybe thinking of the government Women and Equalities Committee.

Thank you. In speaking, it was more about belonging to the Equality Act, but the plural came across in typing.

Well done OP. It all adds up. I'm having a tussle with my DD's school about similar nonsense.

MrsFButton · 24/11/2022 19:19

No Outsiders is a whole package/programme so worth checking whether this error is repeated ok in the associated resources and content

Truthlikeness · 24/11/2022 19:25

This is pervasive. We had a diversity survey at work that used gender instead of sex. The issue there is that someone could say they were being discriminated against for their self-declared gender, but the same action could be protecting someone else's sex-based rights (e.g. not permitting transwomen to use women's toilets), so the survey is utterly meaningless.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/11/2022 19:47

It seems many more people are prepared to speak out it. Trans activists have done themselves no favours by using misinformation and bullying to force others into compliance.
It may be Vebrithien that the presence of an adult self identifying as Mx, gender-non-confirming/trans is the reason for the sudden arrival of inaccurate information in the school? There seems to be a pattern of self invested adults pressurising institutions to take steps to "validate them" and using children & colleagues as an audience. Anxious leaders often don't have the confidence to prioritise children's needs and legal accuracy over individual batshit demands. Hope that I'm wrong but that's why parents are so important in reminding schools of their real priorities and focus - children not an ideology.

TrainedByCats · 24/11/2022 19:50

You might want to check they aren’t using assembly resources from these people - this one features a father that expresses how he’d like to be violent towards a child that doesn’t want to play with his son who is wearing a dress

Oh poop!

How would I go about finding this out?

Well done, OP.

ZestFest · 24/11/2022 20:09

Well done and thank you. I think this is how change will happen. If a few parents from every single school point out these inaccuracies and omissions - then schools might start concerning themselves with accuracy under the law

Iheartjoanne · 24/11/2022 20:12

What is brave about pointing out an inaccuracy on a poster?

devildeepbluesea · 24/11/2022 20:13

Oh. Really well done!! I will be on the lookout for this at our school.

In a world where the phrase "biological sex" was called a transphobic dog whistle by a government department, it's brave.

You’re trying to scare the rest of us that don’t have a fear of stating facts. There is no ‘bravery’ when you know what’s right.
