Gender stereotypes

Along with the "is this model a woman or man?" And "Is this woman a woman if she has short hair" bathroom sketch, gender stereotypes work for no one.

To assume that GC people care about stereotypes is way off though and it's being used by TRAs as a gotcha.

Interesting how this stuff comes round full circle.

@JamesBuckyBarnes It's Sunday evening, don't you have homework to do?

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 30/10/2022 18:02

JamesBuckyBarnes · 30/10/2022 17:57

@BernardBlacksMolluscs any Drag Queen Story Time thread for a start - the last one I saw some US Mom dressing up in the same outfit to convey how unacceptable it all was - she was wearing a normal black leotard Confused I'd hate to see her face when she sees what the swim club and cheerleader squad wear Confused

can you explain better? a woman in america wears a leotard so that means we're all pearl clutchers who don't think men should wear what they like?

can you join the dots for me?

JamesBuckyBarnes · 30/10/2022 18:03

I see no one has denied the frothing at the mouth comment, the latest one about the loony US women shouting at the women in the bathroom is awful. Most of you didn't even bother watching the video before leaping into victim blaming. Horrific.

JamesBuckyBarnes · 30/10/2022 18:05

@BernardBlacksMolluscs Um...you twice asked for examples within 5 mins, did you forget?

to be honest my lovely, we get a lot of weirdos people throwing random insults at us, so I tend to ignore a fair % of them

what was it you wanted to talk about?

you haven't provided them though

Nope not tonight. Is that some sort of attempt to say I'm a child? Do you always try to belittle people who don't have the same opinions as you? Typical attitude of most of the posters on here, sadly.

JamesBuckyBarnes · 30/10/2022 18:08

Attempting to be patronizing as well? Try harder.

only people who come across as a bit silly, chicken

there's still time to turn it around through

<encouraging>

Go @JamesBuckyBarnes we believe in you! You can do it!

InsertPunHere · 30/10/2022 18:15

Don't be obtuse, @JamesBuckyBarnes . Gender Critical means we reject gender stereotypes and embrace women and men (the two sex classes) expressing them however they like. It's the sexualised parady of womanhood in drag than many object to, and the claiming access to women's single sex spaces and rights.

Harry Styles is a lovely lad who wears feminine clothes, Billy Porter is an icon. The gender-bending of the 80s is what many of us grew up with, and I do love a bloke in guyliner. Plenty of the women I know and love are butch-presenting.

Pretty much every feminist I know liked EI when he advocated for Total Clothing Rights. The minute he told Joe Rogan he swapped between girl-mode and boy-mode by taking off his high heels was the minute he threw that goodwill away. It's beyond insulting.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 30/10/2022 18:16

I suspect James may be tidying his room right now

I expect he'll get back to us

JamesBuckyBarnes · 30/10/2022 18:18

Actually, I was in the loo, try again. And did you just assume my sex?

No need to be rude. Drag Queen Story time isn't sexualized, and I was talking about clothes, not bathrooms, what are you talking about?

ErrolTheDragon · 30/10/2022 18:20

It's a well-known saying, why so rude?

There's nothing remotely rude about challenging a sexist jibe on the feminism board. Whereas making that (misplaced) sexist jibe in the first place could be thus described.

Thanks, but from the rabid defensiveness and doubling down that anyone with a different opinion normally encounters on here says different. Still I appreciate the sentiment.

I don't understand what you're saying. How is it sexist? I thought man and women could wear what they want?

Asdavaluesausage · 30/10/2022 18:25

Oh no @JamesBuckyBarnes im listening so tell all.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/10/2022 18:30

Sure, men can wear pearls if they want.
But I've never in all my years heard the term 'pearl clutching' applied to men. Have you, honestly?

Thanks, I'm just annoyed and irritated at the double standards, constantly saying 'oh they can wear what they want' and then the minute one does, all the knives come out. The only difference I can see is that it's their gender reassignment status they disapprove of, a protected characteristic. No evidence of anything else, but that doesn't stop them making accusations at them or anyone who disagrees with them.

Yes, if you think it only applies to women I'm sorry you feel that way. Top result in Google from Cambridge:

Meaning of pearl-clutching in English
a very shocked reaction, especially one in which you show more shock than you really feel in order to show that you think something is morally wrong: Talking about sex always causes a bit of pearl-clutching. His fake pearl-clutching was only intended to make her angry.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/10/2022 18:37

I said I'd never heard it applied to men - not in real life.

Asdavaluesausage · 30/10/2022 18:38

But I agree men can wear whatever the hell they want. I love the hair metal stars of the 80s. Alive cooper, Sebastian Bach, Brett Michaels. All wore bmake up
all were gorgeous. No one batted a eyelid. Harry styles wears skirts and dresses, I’ve seen appreciation threads for him. John McLean. Amazing make up artist and fabulous dresser. Still a man though. The problem is when people insist that if a man wears makeup or a dress he is a man. This is not true. Maybe if we broke down all the stereotypes of what men and women could wear or do, but kept spaces such as toilets, prisons, refuges, hospital wards and changing rooms as single sex, this whole thing would be solved.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/10/2022 18:42

You've been reading selectively. No-one has any issue with those transwomen - wearing what they will - who are not impinging on womens rights. The ones who wear their pretty frocks in the gents, the ones who don't muscle into womens sports etc - you'll find praise not disapproval for them.

It's not about the clothes. It's about the actions.
