Tom is angry at women who want their own category in sports and the interviewer does not even quiz him on it.

God, he’s a vacuous numpty 🤦‍♀️

Creasedlinen · 15/10/2022 15:15

Tom is a puppet for his much older "activist" partner. They got together when he was q7 and his father had just died. So many red flags. I doubt he actually understand the arguments he's been sent out to make.

Kellie45 · 15/10/2022 15:27

The guy is an airhead. Should stick to diving - the only thing he knows,

FeatherPend · 15/10/2022 16:55

As a lesbian I will from experience say that some of the most misogynistic men I've ever come across are gay.

I don't know why this is and any speculation of mine won't be based on facts. Even the 'good ones' ie Dennis Kav don't much like answering questions from old fat butch lesbians like myself .

Tom Daley: ‘I’m not transgender, but if I was told I couldn’t compete because of who I was, I’d never have tried’

What about if you were told that you could compete but that you would never win, Tom? Would you have tried? Because that's what you're asking women to do.

It's not that they wouldn't win.

If you take this to its logical conclusion, he is asking women to give up women's elite sport because non of them will eventually be able to compete at a high enough level to qualify for events like the Olympics etc. In not being able to place, they also would not get sponsorship deals. They would, in time, be phased out because they wouldnt get the funding nor the opportunity.

Tom the baby trafficker who hates women can do one.

GingerPushkin · 15/10/2022 17:26

@FeatherPend I'm pretty sure Dennis has no problem with "Debbie" Hayton in the ladies' loos; evidently, he's not such a great guy (as you have found). It's a shame when supposedly "good" men- especially gay, cos solidarity and all that- reveal what they really think of women. Followed a great bloke on twitter, "James"- but had to unfollow after he couldn't see a problem with the Darren Mew/Mermaids situation. I think I'm guilty of feeling over-appreciative when gay men are on "our" side, perhaps because I've lost the friendship of a gay male friend over this. And off-topic, but is anyone else getting that ad for tv licence with the douchebag in woman-face- it's really pissing me off and keeps jumping back when I close it!!!!

When you know about the history of his partner, Hollywood pool parties etc, it gets a lot worse!

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 15/10/2022 17:34

Couldn’t access the article but the title is wrong. No one is told they can’t compete because of who they are. They just can’t compete in whatever category they want….just like everyone else.

I know, I can't abide Tom and the nonsense he spouts at every opportunity, but I do feel "someone" should have protected him when he was young.

He's like one of those women who were groomed into a very young marriage to an older man and insist it was a success because they've stayed together and been controlled by him for 30 years.

He was a vulnerable young man who didn't know he was gay hadn't even come out when they met.

Shakenotslurred · 15/10/2022 17:36

So does Tom also have a problem with adults not being able to compete in childrens sports? I presume when he was diving in junior competitions he’d have got a bit upset if grown ass adults had been in the competition and won. He’s a dick.

InFiveMins · 15/10/2022 17:37

Can't even bring myself to read it. He makes my skin crawl.

UWhatNow · 15/10/2022 17:44

And I’m sorry…but that cardigan is fucking hideous.

GingerPushkin · 15/10/2022 17:47

oh god- just googled his partner- 20 year age gap- not cool in any relationship, gay or straight- always something off with the older person. I actually feel a bit sorry for Tom in terms of his domestic life but can't bear to click on his interview as know I'll lose all sympathy. I guess he's what they call a useful idiot.

Highfivemum · 15/10/2022 17:49

I used to like him. Now I think he should just shut us as he is so disrespectful to woman

Especially when the younger was only 17, had just lost his father and appears to have been targeted to be the voice for the partner's activism. The whole thing makes me shudder and I don't know why the press/TV keep enabling it.

Binglebong · 15/10/2022 18:00

I think the journalist is GC but not allowed to rock the boat on a coffee table interview.

We don’t get into the question of fairness, here: the counter-argument runs that divers who were born biologically female would be at a clear competitive disadvantage.

GingerPushkin · 15/10/2022 18:02

@Creasedlinen Yes, the media have been appalling- not only do they not dare rock the boat, they get on board. same with schofield (for whom a 20 year age gap was apparently not enough) what about these poor boys? and evidently they were boys. makes me so angry. I do hope Tom grows up one day. He might even develop a respect for women and girls.

@Creasedlinen absolutely! I was just about to say something similar … creepy as fuck.

XanaduKira · 16/10/2022 10:44

Completely agree @Creasedlinen

In addition, any criticism at the time (or now) is met with cries of homophobia and being shouted down - not dissimilar to how the trans activists behave actually!

rabbitwoman · 17/10/2022 12:24

fruitbrewhaha · 15/10/2022 12:14

I don't understand why people, who are of reasonable intelligence, find it so hard to comprehend why you can't allow a man to compete with women.

And that trans people just have to compete in the sex they were born.

And when he discusses that if he was told he couldn't compete he wouldn't have tried, does he not understand that there are thousands of people who could do very well in sport who don't have to the opportunity either though lack of encouragement, family finances, time etc? Probably kids are unable to train and compete in sport due to poverty than being trans, but he isn't doing anything about that.

Yes, it is interesting how these people are unable to put themselves into the shoes of someone else and can only see the situation through the lens of their experience:

'all I know is its like the homophobia of the 80s and 90s' says a 50ish gay man, who experienced awful homophobia. But it's not like that at all.

'all I know is people should be allowed to be who they want to be and we should believe them' says the person who has no safeguarding renit

'all I know is that if I had been told I couldn't do sports......' says the person who was never told he couldn't do sports, was never compelled to share a changing room with anyone who made him feel uncomfortable.....

...... Hmmmm, it is as if they are unable to feel empathy. Isn't there a word for someone like that?

AnyFucker · 17/10/2022 12:30

Stick to the day job, Tom

This …phobia nonsense is just a ploy by activists to stop debate. Disagreeing with Mr Daly does not make me homophobic it just makes me sensible

Stick to the day job, Tom

I wonder if his awareness that the clock is ticking on the day job is behind this vacuous virtue-signalling. He's positioning himself as a cosy national treasure who isn't afraid to speak out and tell everyone to #bekind. The friendly face of rainbow inclusion, available as a presenter and panel show guest.

If I were Tom, I'd be reading up on mermaids, Cass and Stonewall and looking for a slightly more future-proof set of mantras.
