www.independent.co.uk/life-style/tom-daley-interview-knitting-book-b2202849.html

Tom is angry at women who want their own category in sports and the interviewer does not even quiz him on it.

I don't think anyone objects to transwomen competing in sports (either at a professional or amateur level) ...but there is a disadvantage when they want to compete in women's sport. Apart from the biological advantage of having been through male puberty there is the sharing of (previously) single spaces in changing rooms etc.
Much easier for a male athlete to "be kind" be inclusive" because its not them that will be put at a disadvantage. For a lot of sports people, the prize money or earnings from winning are only part of the success. Making it to the podium (as Tom should know) opens other doors - sponsorships, book deals, merchandise, clothing ranges , TV shows etc. It's not just the winning and the medal that are potentially going to be missed it's further opportunities too. (This enraged me about Lance Armstrong - obviously for very different reasons- it wasn't just the glory and money from winning that others missed out on because he cheated, it was all the "add-ons" and opportunities that occur from being a household name)

Ugh. Knew what an actual woman was when he wanted to buy a baby though. Bloody hypocrite.

First thing that jumped into my head before I even read the interview. Well the first few lines anyway . Not paying to read his claptrap 🤫🙄

TooHot2022 · 15/10/2022 13:24

I realised Tom Daley would end up like this when I saw his 'lovely' (sic) husband, Dustin Lance Black, being interviewed by the lovely (sic) Damian Barr at a literary event. The stench of misogyny was so thick in the air I had to leave!

JamSandle · 15/10/2022 13:25

Lost a huge amount of respect for him. But glad he has shown his true colours.

Quackmire · 15/10/2022 13:27

And the worst thing in all of this for our
dear little Tom?
He's getting regularly wet.
As in, that's the terrible "price of diving";
as in jumping in a synchronized fashion
into various bodies of water.
Chronically fucking wet.
Unimaginable sacrifice.
How can this even be allowed, I wonder.
Surely, in this day & age (AD 2022) all
the necessary precautions must be put in place
to safeguard the health and safety of our most
talented athletes.
Otherwise, they'll get so unbearably fucking
wet they might start doing some pretty stupid things.
Like knitting.
Or talking nonsense to every journalist
who's bored enough to listen anyway.

Shakenotslurred · 15/10/2022 13:27

So has Tom as a gay man ever dated a transman?? Or is it a case of Transally in the streets transphobe in the sheets?

AutumnCrow · 15/10/2022 13:37

He's not very bright really.

SallyLockheart · 15/10/2022 13:46

Well, twitter isn’t too impressed by Tom’s independent article. 😀

It’s funny how no one ever worries about trans men who delay medical transition so thst they can compete in women categories

Just like how no one complains about trans women who compete professionally as male and only transition after retirement.

ReunitedThorns · 15/10/2022 13:53

Is this Tom Daley who is so upset about the World Cup being in Qatar, the same Tom Daley who was happy to compete in Russia and other countries where homosexuality is illegal?

Seems like he's happy to stand up against discrimination until it's financially damaging to himself.

PurplRainDancer · 15/10/2022 13:53

Shmithecat2 · 15/10/2022 11:58

Ugh. Knew what an actual woman was when he wanted to buy a baby though. Bloody hypocrite.

This is the crux of it.

MissyB1 · 15/10/2022 13:57

I knew there must be a reason why I always get an urge to do something that he wouldn’t like with those fucking knitting needles.
He really is an irritating little fucker.

CandyflossGin · 15/10/2022 14:00

Fairly certain 'buying' babies is against the law...certainly in the UK

Smilelesstalkmore · 15/10/2022 14:08

CandyflossGin · 15/10/2022 14:00

Fairly certain 'buying' babies is against the law...certainly in the UK

Tom and his husband bought their baby in the US. They want to make it easier to do so in the UK as well.

IcakethereforeIam · 15/10/2022 14:17

None of the comments I read under the article were having any of his nonsense.

Kimya · 15/10/2022 14:19

He really doesn't get it does he? And the interviewer acknowledges enabling him in this.

“I just think of myself when I was younger. I’m not transgender, obviously, but if I was told as a gay man I was never going to be able to compete because of who I was, then of course I’d never have tried.” - yes Tom but being gay doesn't give you a competitive advantage does it.

Helleofabore · 15/10/2022 14:20

Tom seems to be quite happy to allow males to exploit females for their own benefit.

Shmithecat2 · 15/10/2022 14:42

CandyflossGin · 15/10/2022 14:00

Fairly certain 'buying' babies is against the law...certainly in the UK

They bought their baby from a surrogate in the US and expressed their 'shock' that the UK isn't as 'progressive' wrt using women for their reproductive organs.

WomaninBoots · 15/10/2022 14:50

And how many young girls are/have been told they can't compete at something because they are girls. I'm only just getting to 40 and when I was at school there were sports us girls just didn't do... not that long ago! Can you imagine if every woman ever had accepted that the couldn't run a marathon because their wombs would fall out.

Women's sports exist because women weren't fucking wet, Tom. Like you clearly are, you misogynistic asshat.

Noone is actually telling transwomen that they "can't compete". Just that they have to compete in their correct fucking sex class. It's not fucking difficult or complicated.

Someone up thread has said it already. The ONLY reason anyone accepts any of this shite is sheer misogyny.

I really have reached the stage where the only response to any of it that I can muster is a torrent of swear words.

HermioneKipper · 15/10/2022 14:52

He’s such a jumped up little shit.

certainly knew what a woman was when it was time to buy a baby didn’t he.

i can’t bear him

TutiFrutti · 15/10/2022 14:52

I wonder what his opinion would be if superheavy weight boxers demanded to be allowed to compete against flyweight boxers? 🤔

HermioneWeasley · 15/10/2022 14:53

Tom is so dense light beds around him

bigblueyonder · 15/10/2022 14:56

When Lia Thomas (& another one had the same) wrote that statement 'Let Trans Kids Play' their arm when competing, it summed it up really. Women's sports are not 'playing', they are competing and women have their own category for a reason.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 15/10/2022 15:00

If I was told I couldn’t compete because of who I was

relax Tom, I don’t think any sports ban you for being an insufferable prick.

(and of course no one’s barred from sport for having a prick either.)

catandcoffee · 15/10/2022 15:02

Tom's a dick.. he has one and is one 😡 and that's why he talks as he does....no death threats for Dick head Tom. 😤
