Do I now need to boycott Wagamama

Needmoresleep · 27/09/2022 14:38

I like Wagamama. However I spotted this in a DM article about Mermaids today.

"Meanwhile, Wagamama is currently running a similar fundraiser, according to its website which states 25p from every power juice sold will be donated to Mermaids along with 20 per cent of its profits from their bespoke menu."

Why are firms getting into this agree with our politics if you want to buy our services thing. There is no way I want to buy anything that leads to a donation to Mermaids. Wagamama please reconsider.

Yep, Wagamama has been binned by us too.
It’s a shame, I liked it.

AtrociousCircumstance · 27/09/2022 14:49

Yes we boycott for this reason.

FatMog · 27/09/2022 14:51

I have been avoiding it, despite my love for their Ramen.

Amarette · 27/09/2022 14:51

Same. They are all about the rainbow now, staff ID lanyards and everything.

TooHot2022 · 27/09/2022 14:52

Yes, we stopped going because of this and the unisex loos, which are VILE in our local branch.

Amarette · 27/09/2022 14:53

Oh yes the unisex loos are horrible and my 10yo DD was really uncomfortable having to queue by herself next to a 6ft man.

ArabellaScott · 27/09/2022 14:53

Yes, I will not support a charity that causes such harm and acts so recklessly.

Tralalalalalalalalalala · 27/09/2022 14:59

I never liked the fact they were unable to bring out meals at the same time - incompetent or what. Now of course, there are more serious reasons to not go again.

Another one bites the dust.

CristinaNov182 · 27/09/2022 15:13

I’m not going to go there anymore. I really liked some of their dishes, but im sure I can find elsewhere.

FluffySocks0 · 27/09/2022 15:19

I live near a Wagamama so it's somewhere I've visited regularly but not anymore.

SuperCamp · 27/09/2022 15:25

OMG: definitely not contributing a penny to Mermaids!

SuperCamp · 27/09/2022 15:27

Thanks for the heads up, OP, I am just arranging a regular mates meet up and we often do Wagamama’s because they are so good on allergies / ingredient knowledge. But none of the 8 of us will support an organisation that supplies binders to young girls.

roarfeckingroarr · 27/09/2022 15:28

Oh ffs. I don't care about Starbucks but I quite enjoy a solo Wags with a book and now they'll have to end.

CristinaNov182 · 27/09/2022 15:28

Now with the inflation and everything getting more expensive, I will not afford to go out as much as before and I am definitely paying attention where I go to and places like Starbucks and Wagamama are not on the list.

same for M&S and primark with their mixed sex changing rooms. I rather go to local shops and restaurants.

if they change their policies I’ll be back.

MenopausalMe · 27/09/2022 15:35

It’s personal choice obviously but I’ve been boycotting.

Last time DS went he came home horrified by the Mermaids association as he hadn’t realised and declared he was never going again (and since then he’s been getting friends to rotate around a variety of restaurants when they meet in town whereas before it was Wagamama’s everytime).

Shame I’ve been going since they opened their first restaurant in a basement around the corner from the British Museum.

Imagine doing this in 2022 as the court cases mount.

Corrupt.

FredGarland · 27/09/2022 18:01

I stopped going after a thread about it a while back. I miss having it as a delivery option: it felt much lighter as a meal than curry or Chinese or whatever. Used to have it monthly as a family of 4.

Blackandwhitehorse · 27/09/2022 18:12

Same I’m avoiding, local restaurants are the way forward

KittenKong · 27/09/2022 18:13

We stopped when they changed the loos along a dark corridor off the back of the one near us into a unisex - oops ‘gender neutral’ - one.

Their food is apparently not very good quality… now all this, my god are they completely tone deaf?

We’d been going since the one just off museum street opened too, and were then taking the best gen there.

Gobbolinothekitchencat · 27/09/2022 18:24

That’s a shame, I liked their noodles. We tend to avoid them, mainly for the noise levels, too much for my child with ASD. High ceilings and benches aren’t great.

Easy enough to recreate their noodles at home.

ImherewithBoudica · 27/09/2022 18:26

Love their food. Not supporting that. Shame.

Squashpocket · 27/09/2022 18:41

The last time we went in they had 3 gender neutral bathrooms (fully enclosed, basin inside the cubicle type things) and 3 women's bathrooms (same set up), which I thought was actually very thoughtful of them. If you identify as non-binary or whatever go gender neutral and the women get double the number of toilets to choose from. Great!

Really confused that they seem to be full gender woo

Sittingonabench · 27/09/2022 18:54

Very disappointing. I really enjoyed their food and sake.
