We sometime get the odd poster here denying Mermaids does this (or saying there is no evidence that it happens) despite people with direct experience stating that it does. And yes, it does happen.

I think the coroner's verdict about Molly Russell's death should have an impact on discussions about this too.

Encouraging children to self harm without any knowledge of their actual life is wrong. It has now been judged to be wrong and social media to be culpable.

I've also read the trial covered the extent to which this content also severs the child from real life support networks and surely Mermaids are doing the same.

Reading about Molly has made me so upset. Her family have been so brave to fight the tech giants for Molly. And they have at least got some justice for her.

Hopefully they will enable more parents to speak up about the harms happening to their children online.
