Warhammer Space Marines are Gender Critical

www.wargamer.com/warhammer-the-horus-heresy/age-of-darkness-gender-critical#:~:text=A%20non%2Dbinary%20Warhammer%2040k,sensitivity%20readers%20in%20the%20future.

Games Workshop, the makers, have apparently included terms that are frequently used to harm gender minorities in the current day, sounding uncannily and uncomfortably close to the rhetoric used by Gender Critical and trans-exclusionary groups.

Hopefully whoever at GW received that load of old attention seeking tripe just rolled their eyes and filed it in the bin.

Plasmodesmata · 08/08/2022 14:07

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. I don't think the Space Marines need worry too much about being subjected to gender critical language, they are more likely to be eaten by a Tyranid.

Saucery · 08/08/2022 14:08

<snort> Greenskins v Bluehairs. They need to bring that out, it would sell like hot cakes.

Oh no! My Sensitivity Reader just got graunched by a mace! wrings hands

Birdsweepsin · 08/08/2022 14:10

It's PRETEND!

So this was the problematic passage in question:

The process by which Space Marines are created relies inherently on the hormonal and biological make-up of the human male, meaning that only males can be subjected to the transformation.

I'd say it could go on the list, but it's already there:

wonderstuff · 08/08/2022 14:12

Honestly of all the things in the world to protest! Absolutely mad that.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 08/08/2022 15:31

Funnily enough I was at HQ looking round the museum yesterday

There was a rainbow themed Tzeentch army on display in the minor displays within the shop.

clearly open to supporting the rainbow, heck they’re even selling army scented candles

Warhammer Space Marines are Gender Critical

Warhammer is misogynistic. When my son was younger I did some with him. The female models tended to be scantily clad with big boobs not that there were many of them. I recently discovered Allarielle the Evergreen and made her as one of the few powerful female figures. There used to be lots of unisex animal models the nonbinaries could be if they wanted something unrelated to models based on people and sexual reproduction which tends to involve a male and a female. If it goes totally gender woo and gender neutral people will stop buying them.

It had to happen sooner or later. It is time the truth is revealed as I don't think we can keep things quiet any longer. The fact is, and as I know many Mumsnetters understand, secret feminist agents long ago infiltrated Games Workshop and made sure Warhammer 40,000 [WH40K] was designed to fit their agenda. Thus it presents a deep satire of the far future in which warnings of male violence were ignored and shows how this would inevitably lead to an evil despotic humanity entrenched in endless war. Notice how everything is Grim Dark because everyone is following the orders of a dead male leader who is being worshiped and obeyed as if he was still alive. The dead hand of the patriarchy in action!

"It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries The Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die...

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruellest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods. "

Basically because of the male lust for violence progress has ended completely and a horrific autocratic state which combines all the worst aspects of male dominated regimes throughout history controls the future. The very concept reflects Andrea Dworkin's understanding that male violence means we are all inside a "War Zone". For women "There is only War" right now. Sadly this deep critique of future society has attracted little understanding and it is just seen as a game for teenagers. Obvious feminist touches like the horror of the genetically modified Space Marines being designed so the Emperor could reproduce genes of himself in super male bodies to wage endless war without female involvement have passed unnoticed. This is a deep critique of the trend towards post humanism and the male desire to eliminate women and their role in reproduction in favour of a homoerotic world of male violence.

Then of course there is the Adepta Sororitas, the Battle Sisters, the only entirely female aspect of the world. This is a complex creation which presents a multi faceted critique of the dangers women face in a male dominated environment. While on the surface they have the obvious aspect of a male fantasy of dangerous armoured women armed with chainswords and flamers they also represent the most powerful faction in WH40K which is fully human as opposed to the superhuman Space Marines. Noticeably they are forbidden to have males in their ranks thus representing a Single Sex based army. In theory like everyone else they are following the whims of the dead Emperor, in reality their elected leader the Abbess Sanctorum has considerable leway to act. However like all religious women trapped inside male dominated societies they too are trapped within a cycle of violence. They have to follow absurd religious rules set up long ago and force other people to obey them, showing the way religious women perpetuate male dominated religions today. They focus on slaughtering heretics, aliens, and degenerate chaos cultists that aim to mutate humanity into new demonic bodies with multiple sexes, and genders. The inhuman threat of Chaos and its gods were designed to show different aspects of the Patriarchy which feminists must defeat - Khorne [Male Violence], Nurgle [Poor health care], Tzeentch [Male competition, mutation and trickery], Slaanesh [Sexual violence].

So while on one level the Adepta Sororitas represent women taking action to protect humanity just as in everyday life women do their jobs, look after homes and protect their families, the fact is the Battle Sisters are trapped within a broken system despite their amazing capabilities like women today. There is no escape from the Grim Dark future despite the fact the Battle Sisters are fully capable of slaughtering anyone trying to breach their Single Sex spaces. Only by abandoning violence altogether and reforming society can peace be achieved.

Obviously now the feminist roots of Warhammer 40,000 are revealed and the fact that you can buy entire armies of heavily armed trans exclusionary female warriors is a key part of the game it seems likely that Games Workshop will be cancelled and the game closed down. I know many mumsnetters have large armies of Adepta Sororitas figures and as we know everyone choosing that faction is Gender Critical. However it seems now the TRAs have caught on. It is time to closedown the secret Mumsnet WH40K discord. As it is obviously far more "problematic" than Harry Potter so I imagine there will be protests at Games Workshop retail outlets. The lessons of WH40K's feminist presentation of the dangers of male violence sadly have not been understood. It did however keep teen boys and even some dark minded girls away from computers for a bit so there were social benefits.

Boybandfacedfannyfart · 08/08/2022 18:57

😂😂😂

Scottish posters - please take your complaints to Perth Warhammer, but take a fan because Tam is rather easy on the eye.

the only reason I ever cross the threshold with my Obsessed children. 😳

2Rebecca · 08/08/2022 18:59

Thought you'd invented a new gang fromorbit but they do exist, presumably a lockdown development. Excellent analysis. The women will take over the citadel

LeroyJenkinssss · 08/08/2022 19:08

😂😂 absolutely love that @fromorbit

i mean really?! Words fail me.

ScreechingEchoChamber · 08/08/2022 19:27

@fromorbit

Wow. That's truly amazing.

I'm almost tempted to go and buy some of the weird little gobliny creatures and try to engage them in some kind of patriarchal dismantling roleplay.

Feminist Warhammer sounds like about the best thing I've heard all week.

Birdsweepsin · 08/08/2022 20:32

👏👏👏
@fromorbit that was amazing!

My family's favourite board game is munchkin warhammer!
And my husband would like to know if can squeeze in a dietary and hygiene evaluation.

Clymene · 08/08/2022 22:34

@fromorbit 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Wbeezer · 08/08/2022 22:42

Warhammer 40k better not get cancelled, I own quite a lot of GW shares, they've been a rather good investment up to now (and balance out the amount DH and two DSs spend on tiny bits of plastic...)

ArcheryAnnie · 09/08/2022 06:51

@fromorbit < wild applause! >

ArcheryAnnie · 09/08/2022 06:53

It still amazes me though, even after all this time in the Gender Wars, that someone can type this with a straight face:

“there is no detectable hormonal difference between a cisgender person and anyone receiving the correct dosage of HRT”.

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 09/08/2022 07:04

@fromorbit

Fantastic.

Only in death does duty end (had that on a t-shirt once)

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 09/08/2022 10:02

I think "And they shall know no fear" is quite a good motto for GC women.

BootsAndRoots · 09/08/2022 19:28

Board game played predominantly by males, receives a complaint from (a likely male) hiding behind a cartoon avatar and trans flag on Twitter.

Birdsweepsin · 10/08/2022 20:52

"Board game played predominantly by males"

Is there any reason why DnD, Videogames and E-sports, Fantasy generally gets this male stranglehold?

The idea of exploring strange new worlds should appeal equally to young boys and young girls I'd have thought.

Can anyone give me a female-dominated alternative? The closest I've got is Battlestar Galactica's 2000s reboot - and more recent Star Wars films - going strong on female characters. But in terms of hobbyists?

Plasmodesmata · 11/08/2022 09:36

I don't know. But I never saw a young girl in the Warhammer shop when I used to take my boys in there (I only have boys). We went to Warhammer World a couple of times, there were very few female visitors.
