Tuned into an item about menopause and a great text sent in by a woman about how we can’t ensure good outcomes for women if we cant define ourselves as a sex class, not gender. Caroline’s response was truly treacherous, talking about wonderful TW who were helping their menopausal friends out by sharing their oestrogen supplies. Astonishing that TW were centred in this part of the interview.

Oh FFS 🤦‍♀️. Great question though but what on earth is she doing chairing a Parliamentary enquiry on this if she doesn't believe in women?

Floisme · 28/07/2022 11:03

I didn't hear it but this is why, now Mordaunt is out of the running, I'm relatively indifferent as to who wins the Tory leadership and far more anxious about who gets the key cabinet positions.

Signalbox · 28/07/2022 11:12

Ffs so prescription sharing is now a good thing? Does this apply to all medications or just oestrogen when given to women by men?

It was stunning and brave HRT - the rules simply don't apply.

IcakethereforeIam · 28/07/2022 11:17

This is jawdropping, did the interviewer just let it pass?

RubyTrees · 28/07/2022 11:18

Caroline doesn't appear to know that the definition of menopause is when menstruation ceases. She kept saying that men take oestrogen - what does that have to do with menopause?

Me too @Floisme .

She lost me after saying, it’s not only women, some men suffer from menopause too!
WTAF is her definition of a woman?

KathyMunro · 28/07/2022 11:47

#NokesForTheBlokes

That is all I will say.

Norden · 28/07/2022 11:55

Caroline Nokes is a complete sell-out to women. In this, she refuses to say that trans identifying males should not compete in swimming against women. How dare she give away our rights? How can Rishi Sunak possibly think that this woman can represent us?

She seems incapable of talking about almost anything without centring men.

Erm, isn't it illegal to share prescriptions? 😮

What does Noakes think she is saying? Does she support illegal prescription sharing? Because it sounds like she does here.

Jeez ... where the hell are they finding these MPs? Their brains seem as though they are full of cotton wool and spaghetti.

Floisme · 28/07/2022 12:10

Imagine her as Health or Education Secretary. Unlikely? Maybe but it's why I'll never trust a political party again. The system's far too vulnerable to lobbying.

Apollo442 · 28/07/2022 12:11

So, a man who is using estrogen (thus depriving a woman who needs it for medical reasons) is kindly sharing some of his supply. And according to Noakes this just shows the sisterly solidarity of transwomen? Hmmm...

LittlePearl · 28/07/2022 12:40

It was her statement that it's 'predominantly biological women' that experience menopause was what floored me. Who are these other people going through menopause that AREN'T biological women, FFS?

Supposedly intelligent people talking utter bollocks, it beggars belief. And she's (in theory) representing her constituents in parliament. It's madness.

sashagabadon · 28/07/2022 12:40

It was a very strange thing to say. Imagine a shortage of any other medication and an MP suggesting how great it is if people share their supplies. It would be challenged immediately.

Yes.
I can't believe this wasn't picked up by the interviewer. Did anyone hear the whole thing and can verify that?
How disappointing. I was just thinking this morning she seemed quite impressive; I'd read an article about her asking Liz Truss to explain the removal of wording about commitments to abortion and sexual health rights from the 'Statement on freedom of religion or belief and gender equality' policy paper.
And another about her calling for menopause to be a protected characteristic and for a special ambassador to keep women in the workplace.
Was today a blip? Or more representative of her usual views/position?

achillestoes · 28/07/2022 13:01

She is an absolute fool.

IcakethereforeIam · 28/07/2022 13:03

I know I'm cynical but I've always suspected all this sudden interest in the menopause (though overdue) is just a bone to throw the cohort of women most likely to be GC.

Bonbon21 · 28/07/2022 13:07

13 minutes in....

DrDinosaur · 28/07/2022 13:13

She is an idiot.
'Predominantly biological women', then talking about the 'men' who might experience menopause. Meaning transmen, who if they have medically transitioned, will NOT have a menopause, as they will have already irretrievably damaged their normal hormonal function.

Cailleach1 · 28/07/2022 13:39

Caroline’s response was truly treacherous, talking about wonderful TW who were helping their menopausal friends out by sharing their oestrogen supplies.

My immediate thoughts were not about prescription 'sharing'. It was more that maybe there is a shortage for menopausal women who need HRT because blokes are being allowed to use it 'recreationally'. Maybe there should be HRT security for women, and then make the surplus available to those who don't actually need it to assist with their normal functioning.

xalo · 28/07/2022 13:45

Omg I hope so much that she doesn't get a cabinet position! What an absolute disaster that would be for women.

Cailleach1 · 28/07/2022 13:45

Yeah, y'see I hear TW being included where CN says the word women. So, not something to benefit women, as such. Sort of anyone who wants to identify as a menopausal woman etc. The special ambassador could fill up on those identifying as women. While the situation for actual women remains the same.

"Oh, Jean (formerly John) and Tricia (formerly Tony) have stayed on. So we have filled our quota of menopausal women'.

sashagabadon · 28/07/2022 15:37

There’s no chance on gods green earth of Liz truss giving Caroline noakes a cabinet position. I suspect hell will freeze over first

MaudeYoung · 28/07/2022 15:59

It sounds to me like Nokes is thrashing out in her "death throes", knowing that a new PM and therefore new Cabinet will lead to a change in the Select Committees. She may well have only has a few weeks left as Chair of WESC. She knows that a Truss-led govt will mean she loses her privileged position which is why she is supporting Sunak, is my best guess.
