Miriam Cates, Rosie Duffield and Jackie DP are speaking. You can watch live from 3pm (or on catchup).
I will be attempting to do so around school run/swimming lessons/homework supervision.
MC was on Politics Live this morning apparently if anyone has a link to that catchup.

Politics Live link:

From 05:45

MC talks of a "wild west" and calls for age appropriate materials, one's appropriate to their development. When asked to provide examples of her concerns, she says she can't because of broadcast rules ie they're that extreme. Which sounds familiar.

rogdmum · 30/06/2022 15:33

Miriam Cates is on fire!

Signalbox · 30/06/2022 15:44

Thanks for link OP

Linking to my thread last week about the Schools Bill and the Lords' trying to protect parents' rights to see RSE materials provided by outsourced providers. Currently these providers are trying to hide behind IP/Data Protection law to prevent schools sharing materials with parents. Together with teaching children to keep what they learn in school a secret, this is really sinister, and the Lords' proposed amendment is really important.

Miriam Cates is magnificent - I had no idea this was happening. The RSE providers she detailed are appalling. How did it get to there?

achillestoes · 30/06/2022 17:12

Isn’t she fabulous? Another possible PM in the making.

achillestoes · 30/06/2022 17:14

It’s now in Hansard from the Minister - schools should respond positively to requests from parents to view materials used in RSE, and commercial confidentiality or copyright should not be used to put in obstacles in place to prevent them doing so.

Can someone taking public funding away from The Proud Trust, please?

Whatthechicken · 30/06/2022 17:48

She was magnificent, well-thought out, well researched, clear and concise. Anyone who disagrees with what she said, should have their hard drive checked. Her comment in the interview this morning about breaking BBC broadcasting rules with the material was incredibly impactful.

I have written to her to thank her - no doubt she will get some hate now, I think some support would be appreciated.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle. I have no words for how low he has stooped in this speech.

ContradickstoryEvidence · 30/06/2022 18:47

^^ What he says amounts to, "A tragic death happened to a teen because his school didn't teach him how to carry out deviant sexual practices properly."

InTheCanteen · 30/06/2022 19:08

All the speeches now on the CFW YouTube channel here:

CfW do great work on these debates.

What can I say Miriam...!

💥 Boom! 💥

RSE debate in HoC this afternoon (Thurs 30th)
WarriorN · 30/06/2022 19:20

She mentioned BISH twice. TWICE!

WarriorN · 30/06/2022 19:21

And that gawd awful teddy book.

WarriorN · 30/06/2022 19:26

"Sunlight is the best disinfectant..."

Miriam, are you here?

Whatthechicken · 30/06/2022 19:32

Exactly what I was thinking. Imagine a teacher not teaching our children on the safe way to deprive themselves of air whilst masturbating safely…disgraceful. These kids don’t find this shit out by accident, they either find it online or are told it by adults.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle. I have no words for how low he has stooped in this speech.

This is emotional blackmail, and utterly awful

jeaux90 · 30/06/2022 19:44

Miriam was brilliant

ContradickstoryEvidence · 30/06/2022 19:48

Imagine a teacher not teaching our children on the safe way to deprive themselves of air whilst masturbating safely…disgraceful.

Or if LRM gets his way, imagine a teacher actually teaching auto asphyxiation. Will they give a demo? Show a video of it being done? Get all the kids to have a practice in the classroom? And at what age, exactly will this be taught? And if kids continue to die because they do it wrong, can parents sue the school for not teaching their kids properly?

Pluvia · 30/06/2022 20:05

Miriam Cates was fantastic. At long ruddy last someone has stood up in Parliament and said gender ideology is nonsense. I could cry with relief that it's on record and I know a couple of RSE teachers who'll be celebrating tonight.

Now we need an investigation on how things have got this far and who is funding the perverts and idiots who are going into schools teaching this damaging stuff to children. Who funds BISH and all the other groups mentioned? Follow the money.

JulesJules · 30/06/2022 20:06

Miriam is so impressive. The whole thing is horrifying though - as she says, how on earth did we get to this point in schools.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 30/06/2022 20:21

Just listened to her and what a relief to have a woman MP speaking openly about the frankly creepy groups who have targeted children with their porn obsessions.
And as for LRM - his speech demonstrated a woeful lack of awareness of safeguarding children.

achillestoes · 30/06/2022 20:27

LRM gets a soft ball from me here because he’s bereaved, but fuck no, we do not need to teach 15 year olds ‘safe’ ways to semi-asphyxiate themselves for erotic purposes. We need to find out what they are accessing that is encouraging them to try something that stupid and we need to deal with that connection.

achillestoes · 30/06/2022 20:33

Because (and I know this is obvious to most people here) one poor kid out of a single school died while trying out something insane he learnt on the internet, LRM thinks we should teach every kid in the UK about trying it.

I know I should go easy on him but I wish people would do a bit of digging before they elect people that daft.
