How would you describe your gender identity?

Work are requesting us to complete a diversity questionnaire and this is one question. The options are: Woman/man/non-binary/prefer not to say/other

I think I've read stuff on here before saying choose other and state "I don't have a gender identity" but would that skew the results? Or could I complain about the question?

I was a bit concerned it would be all about gender bollocks but there are also questions about sexual orientation and disabilities.

I’d answer squarely like that: I don’t have one.

I got one of these. I complained that they weren't collecting data in line with the PCs from the EA2010.

Yup. You haven’t got one. I would tick Other, if there’s room to say “Woman, ie my sex, not a gender identity”.

And if they aren't separately asking for whether your sex is male or female, complain that they are failing to collect data on all the protected characteristics under the equalities act and are therefore falling short of their duties to monitor and assess equalities outcomes.

I always tick other then state I do not have a gender identity. Then I add you are conflating biological sex and gender in your question. Woman is an adult human female. Then I write to the survey and tell them I feel excluded as they have not given me the choice to say no I dont have one. It's like having a list of religions and picking other, whereas the census gave an option of no religion which is more accurate.

They'll put you down as agender and joyfully +1 the "queer" tally, patting themselves on the back for having such an inclusive workplace.

Ask them why they are collecting this data. Seems excessive and contrary to Data Protection law because gender identity is not a protected characteristic.
Although in reality I would roll my eyes and Prefer Not To Say

Prefer not to say is the sensible response, the more people that do that, the more likely the question won't be asked for much longer.

Assuming 'I don't have one' is not an option.

The other response would be not to reply, or only reply on other questions.

That's my concern! So I selected prefer not to say & have sent an email amalgamating a couple of posts on here re: equalities act, conflating sex & gender, why are they doing it.

And another thing. All this gender collection. Are they just ignoring sex? I was remembering an old colleague of mine who was fired after disappearing from work one lunchtime and turning up three days later in the same clothes. This was the city on the 90s so, well it had been seen before.

SHE was fired (the men never were unless they were found to be downloading nasty porn). Women on maternity sometimes found themselves redundant. Mums needing to leave on time to collect kids from daycare were called uncommitted and sniped at.

i had gay and bi colleagues. No one have a shiney about their sexuality.

I don’t have a gender identity, which I think is different from I don’t know. If there wasn’t that box I would ask annoymously for that to be added as an option.

My friend was asking about my pay banding (NHS) as she didn't understand the nuances (and that's a whole other thread).
I told her we were on Agenda for Change and she said "blimey, I didn't realise the movement had got that powerful". I did have to spell it out.....

Yeah I'd think if you say you don't have one, they will list you as agender. I would just put woman, as that is what you are.

If the majority of people are listed as 'agender' this daft ideology will soon reveal itself as unworkable.

I don't feel as though I have one either. However I don't like choosing other as that feels as though I do have a gender identity - it is just an out there one that hasn't made the list.

My DH has a major bee in his bonnet about this. He ticks "mixed - other" and then writes in Ashkenazi/Sephardi.

Do you HAVE to complete the survey? I've started deleting all survey requests. I was chased yesterday and replied "no thank you" and didn't hear back. I was slightly concerned though because the chasing email was addressed to me directly (FIRST NAME/SURNAME) then went on to say how important it was to their data blah blah bad and that all responses are anonymous. Well if it's anonymous then how did they know I hadn't responded?
