Green Party women committee resignations

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 13/06/2022 19:38

I’ve just heard that four members of the Green Party Women committee have resigned, citing relentless and stressful demands that now result in a hostile and unpleasant environment for all involved. They pledge their continuing support for women and non-binary people.

Anyone know more about this?

no, but I would like to!

Just got the email.

Dear Green Party Women members,
It was an honour to be elected by you to serve on the GPW Committee this year and it is with great regret and heavy hearts that we have come to the decision to make this statement: We will be resigning from the Green Party Women Committee.
Every member of GPW is important and we wanted to represent all of you. We have so much respect for our fellow volunteers and activists. It was our hope that we could be part of a united committee working towards common goals.
Unfortunately, it has been more difficult to reconcile our differences and work together as a cohesive unit than each of us expected. There have been numerous issues with process, procedures, and communication that we have not been able to resolve.
Despite the goodwill and intentions of everyone elected, working relationships have broken down and of particular concern is the way that our elected Co-Chair has been treated, including being increasingly scape-goated for things that are out of their control. We have attempted to resolve this, but not been successful.
Simply asking for the GPW Constitution to be upheld or complying with the instructions and wishes of senior committees of the Party have led to relentless and stressful demands that now result in a hostile and unpleasant environment for all involved. There is work the Party must do to better support volunteer staff in these roles and this situation cannot be allowed to happen again.
Each of us remains indebted and grateful for your votes. There are so many wonderful and inspiring women and non-binary people in the Green Party. Hearing from guest speakers at our online events and meeting incredible members of the group remains a highlight for all of us.
We would like to focus our time and effort now on supporting women and non-binary people in other ways, and on helping to get them elected. It is our hope that the remaining committee will reflect on where opportunities were missed and that we can part on amicable terms.
Yours faithfully,
Ani Stafford-Townsend (Co-Chair)
Elise Benjamin (Membership Secretary)
Natalia Kubica and Meg Shepherd-Foster (Non-Portfolio Officer)

If I recall correctly from the election campaign, these are the non-GC members elected.

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 13/06/2022 19:58

Have the other members been wanting to address women’s concerns, especially where there’s an environmental angle?

StillWeRise · 13/06/2022 20:00

hmm well clear as mud
mine had gone to junk if anyone else is wondering where theirs is

Conflictedunicorn · 13/06/2022 20:01

Well that’s interesting, especially Natalia’s Twitter. Looks like toys are getting thrown out of the prams left, right and centre.

serendipitea · 13/06/2022 20:02

This might be good news, and I may yet rejoin the Greens.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 13/06/2022 20:20

I see ani identifies as non binary - but of course!

Apollo442 · 13/06/2022 20:37

I looked at some of the twitter and just wow...these people are absolutely incapable of debate or reflection and should never have been in any elected position at all. They put down any opposition as being motivated by hate but disguised as 'concern' for children etc. Just don't waste any more time trying to debate with these cultists and just rejoice that they are being driven out, finally, by the grown ups.

WhereYouLeftIt · 13/06/2022 20:38

That's a lot of words to say 'Fuck the lot of you, I'm off.'

DistaffSide · 13/06/2022 20:43

I believe Ani identifiess as queer as does their non-binary husband.

16HamstersCalledThemAllDave · 13/06/2022 20:44

Well I am blocked from following Natalia Kubica on Twitter even though I have never heard of her or had any interaction with her. As my Twitter account is very much Women's Rights, I think the block speaks volumes

I believe Ani identifiess as queer as does their non-binary husband.

There is nothing I can say in response to this sentence that wouldn't get me into deep trouble.

Green Party women committee resignations
TheGreatATuin · 13/06/2022 20:50

I got this email earlier and tbh my first reaction was "well, don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out".
Green Party Women pretty much disappeared last year due to activists throwing their toys out the cot.
They've tried that again this year, and had some success initially in getting one of the co-chairs suspended, but unfortunately for them the grown ups have been ignoring their tantrums and getting on with it.
This year, there has been so much more progress: events, regular meetings, talks and groups.
And each time, it's clear that it's been the same women who have put in an incredible amount of work to get it going, and they're not the ones flouncing off in a strop.
With one exception (iirc), the resignations have come from people who haven't even turned up at the last few committee meetings.
That tells you everything you need to know about the effort they were actually putting into finding a resolution

Conflictedunicorn · 13/06/2022 20:52

As my mum says ‘ and nothing of value was lost’

dropthevipers · 13/06/2022 21:02

Er, so who has fucked off? A bunch of Koolaiders?

WithAnXXHere · 13/06/2022 21:11

It's quite fitting that that email went straight to your junk folder...

Hagiography · 13/06/2022 21:37

Yes, it's the 'inclusive' ones who have all resigned. They have set up a Twitter account.

Hopefully this means the more reasonable and measured members can now get back to focussing on environmental issues.

There is some outrageous misogyny and abuse of women going on in the party.

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 13/06/2022 22:04

Good news, as long as the committee is allowed to carry on

can anyone link to the twitter? since I am so ancient

Hagiography · 13/06/2022 22:26

Hoardasurass · 13/06/2022 22:45

Hmm whilst this sounds like good news I wonder if this is a case of jumping before being pushed out because of the multiple upcoming court cases including atleast 1 that centers around the GPW.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/06/2022 20:46

It it just sublimely ridiculous. I need to 'up' my pretentiousness, too.

IcakethereforeIam · 13/06/2022 22:54

There's very few messages of support that I can see on that twitter thread. I'm not on twitter though so perhaps I'm just not seeing them.

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 14/06/2022 00:47

Natalia tweets ”For truly inclusive, intersectional feminism, I recommend following FeministGreens”

But that is a ‘feminism’ that centres men and the gender identity movement rather than women, or indeed Green issues.

Not to be confused with Green Feminists UK, who actually are feminists. And Green.
