Green Party women committee resignations

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 13/06/2022 19:38

I’ve just heard that four members of the Green Party Women committee have resigned, citing relentless and stressful demands that now result in a hostile and unpleasant environment for all involved. They pledge their continuing support for women and non-binary people.

Anyone know more about this?

Can we have Emma Bateman back now?

LunaLights · 14/06/2022 05:17

It didn’t take long before the cries of “bullying” started - even asking what the other members did is considered transphobic abuse!

Green Feminists UK have posted a statement:

This is good news. Thanks to lots of hard work the fight to recapture the Greens from the anti-woman faction looks to be progressing. Genderists can't handle open debate or hard work. It isn't the first time they have simply given up often all you have to do is turn up consistently and they will run away because their positions are indefensible and they are lazy and have zero commitment to Green issues. Because of the democratic nature of Green party structure they can't create the echo chamber of dogmatic certainty in which these kind of views can thrive.

We also have the Emma Bateman & Shahrar Ali discrimination court cases against the party which may further strengthen the pro-woman side. So looking good.

Green members also be aware there is an important upcoming election contest for the Deputy Leadership over the summer upcoming. Nominations for standing are still open till end of June so not sure who the best person to vote for is yet or if Shahrar will be standing or someone else. It will definitely be another big chance to debate women's issues in the party which is vital. Every time we do that bigots get triggered and might leave.

I see Kathryn Bristow is one of the contenders. Kathryn goes by faer/faers and has already been suspended by the party once. Sounds like a really stable, positive candidate to lead the party to victory. Got my vote for sure.

McDuffy · 14/06/2022 06:35

Thanks for the update fromorbit, good idea to stay as a member for the summer then to vote?

WarriorN · 14/06/2022 07:27

Thanks for the update. I haven't been interacting with the group. Looking forward to a renewed group.

WarriorN · 14/06/2022 07:31

She's on the fence and a long shot but Natalie Bennet would be interesting.

Yes, definitely! In fact, I'd encourage women to join. This has happened because women's voices are growing stronger in the party. We are making very real progress.
I've thought 'puuuuullll' more than once since last night.
The more women we have join us, the sooner we can have a party fit for women to vote for and to tackle climate change.

I believe Ani identifiess as queer as does their non-binary husband.

I've had sex with women when I was young and single, maybe I should buy my husband a lipgloss and we too could be a queer couple.

or maybe that would be madly disrespectful to gay people.

Don't know if anyone else has seen this.....
"Motion 3 - London Green Party Investigation into Institutional Misogyny
Context

Resolution
London Green Party condemns the verbal abuse by a member, at the meeting of 23 May 2022, who told a fellow member to "Shut up, you stupid cow!", while they were giving a speech against a motion which emphasised trans rights over the rights of other legally protected groups. It is deeply ironic that the sort of hostile environment towards gender critical members that speakers opposed to the unamended motion were warning about precisely came to pass at that meeting and in front of multiple witnesses.

We understand that the offending member has referred themselves to the Party's disciplinary process. We should be kept updated upon this incident, as appropriate, and urge the requisite bodies to act promptly and proportionately against this intolerable behaviour.

We call upon officers of London Green Party to initiate an independent investigation, in addition, into a culture of misogyny, which, we believe, has led to this incident. Left untackled, members will continue to feel that this party is not a safe space for them or others who share perfectly legitimate viewpoints about sex and gender.

Proposer: Vicki Pryde (Bromley Green Party)
Seconder: Paul Milnes (Lewisham Green Party)"

Thanks for posting this, Sunni. This is much more important than just rudeness. It shows how deeply entrenched, and how acceptable, misogyny now is in the Green Party, that someone felt entitled to tell a woman to shut up when she was speaking up for women's rights. The misogynists genuinely feel offended if we dare speak. The Green Party has allowed, indeed encouraged, this 'men's rights' movement to flourish.

I'm glad they identified the culprit.

I'm hopeful I'll have someone to vote for at the next election.

Amendment Seconder: Natalia Kubica (Ealing Green Party)

A huge portion has been removed, including any mention of the issues involved......

Conflictedunicorn · 21/06/2022 21:18

Hold on, isn’t NK one of the ones who resigned? So how can she second a motion? Maybe she just identified as resigning? Or is resigned fluid?

TheGreatATuin · 23/06/2022 13:42

I'm not sure about that particular person but the resignations were them resigning from their roles on the Green Party Women committee, not from the party.

ArcheryAnnie · 23/06/2022 15:50

That last amendment is real milquetoast stuff. God forbid anyone actually describe the misogyny experienced in the party!
