Genital flattening underwear for four year old boys

Apologies for the DM link, but I've just come across this and am horrified. A trans woman has designed and is selling underwear for boys as young as 4 which flattens their genitals in order to give them a female side profile. Medics have warned that it could lead to infertility.

Baroness Nicholson is on the case.

Transgender designer accused of 'child abuse' for selling pants www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10746809/Transgender-designer-accused-child-abuse-selling-pants-flatten-genitals-boys.html?ito=native_share_article-masthead

Thank heavens for Baroness Nicolson

Also in that article:

"Stephanie Davies-Arai, of campaign group Transgender Trend, said: ‘The fact that a child is sexualised in this way and their sexual parts are treated according to adult ideas, is abuse of the child. It feels barbaric to actually interfere with a child’s genitals in that way.’"

  • Causing a child to end up infertile (which would likely happen according to the article)
  • Interfering with a child's genitals
Those things seem specifically like child sexual abuse.
SoggyPaper · 24/04/2022 07:19

'Each product is here to provide children with the stepping stones to finding themselves, in a supportive, validating experience.’
It adds: ‘We are here to provide gender expression products for trans girls and non-binary children in aim [sic] of finding their true, authentic self.’

that designer is peddling the absolute worst kind of invalidating nonsense.

let’s teach children that the way to find themselves is to buy products that alter your body. That’s a great idea.

throwing words like ‘authentic’ around, while promoting the idea that people need to change or contort their bodies is dangerous newspeak.

No 4 year-old is EVER going to think this out themselves. Any nursery or school spotting these, has to be reporting the parents for psychological abuse, never mind physical abuse.

ALL these people are EVER doing is attempting to validate their own life-choice by trying to drag others along with them. If they were absolutely positive that they had made the right choice, they wouldn’t be this insecure, they’d just get on with whatever life they’d chosen.

exactly. A four year old doesn't have a gender identity, whatever that means. My friends dd at 4 announced she was really a tiger. She kept this up for several months, saying that she wasn't going to go to the local school as she would be going to Tiger School. She insisted on a tiger plate, a tiger T shirt etc.

By 4.5 she had grown out of it. More importantly, my friend never believed that her daughter really was a tiger.

I'm glad the baroness is on it because its not new.

Here is a thread about similar underwear and 'penis packers' for little girls.

Moochio · 24/04/2022 08:47

Why is this needed? Who thought this was a good thing?!

IcakethereforeIam · 24/04/2022 09:35

Won't they hurt?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 24/04/2022 09:37

Needed? That's the heartbreaking aspect of this, isn't it?

Parents who are unhappy with the sex if their child? Who maybe see their child stepping outside those stereotypes and pushing hard on that? Parents who are living their own dreams through their kids?

Whatever it is it isn't for the benefit of any child that young!

My ex work colleague who has long supported her son in his trans journey (started at about 8 years old) has recently gone very quiet. Having supported her new daughter, middle child, one of three boys, she has just had to be very grateful she didn't get to the front of the queue for any medical intervention. Her son has now decided that it is too much hassle being a girl and he, now 14, wants to play football and maybe have a girlfriend after all.

Who knows how he will choose to live his life, but he probably could have been just as happy if left to be a boy who wore a dress sometimes and had very long hair. But I suspect my colleague really was gaining something from him being trans. Which is ineffably sad.

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 24/04/2022 09:47

Surely putting these on a child who is 'unhappy with their genitals' would constitute physical and sexual abuse?

spotcheck · 24/04/2022 09:50

💓 the Baroness

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/04/2022 10:04

I honestly feel like I might be sick. Who is putting their child in painful underwear? Parenting is about cutting out itchy labels!

And who is focusing on the silhouette of a child's pelvis? Young children would not do this without coaching from adults. Why would a little boy seek to emulate the shape of little girls in such detail? He would have to have the differences pointed out to him first. Who would encourage a little boy to look at male and female peers and scrutinise their crotches for differences?

I dearly hope that this business has never sold any pants in the smallest size!

FrancescaContini · 24/04/2022 10:08

I actually feel very sick reading this. It’s abusive. The thought of putting your four year old son in pants to “flatten” his genitals…it’s horrifying. 😡

FrancescaContini · 24/04/2022 10:10

And agree absolutely with @PurgatoryOfPotholes - why encourage a little boy to think about the outline of his genitals? Who even CONSIDERS this themselves let alone talking to a very small child about it? 🤮😡

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/04/2022 10:17

Infertile from 4 to validate adults.

Ffs 😡

Queenoftheashes · 24/04/2022 10:22

Gosh. So much money to be made.

doublemonkey · 24/04/2022 10:24

I've been waiting for this. Hope they do binders next.

They may well be restrictive and uncomfortable. They would certainly create some local overheating to the point where I'd be concerned about the need for regular, scrupulous hygiene to manage skin inflammation (intertrigo with any associated infection) that can occur with skin compressed on skin. (Same happens with breast binding.)

They did them in Dec 2018

ComDummings · 24/04/2022 10:28

Why are there so many sick adults in this world

Georgeskitchen · 24/04/2022 10:40

Why are you apologising for a link to a news outlet that exposes vile child abuse? Would you prefer it if nobody brought this to the publics attention?

timestheyarechanging · 24/04/2022 11:30

Absolutely dreadful, I'm gob smacked. On my 50 odd years, ever heard of anyones son requesting such things. What kind of people would buy these for their child? Poor kids, seems like this underwear would be inflicted on them rather than being asked for.

Datun · 24/04/2022 12:49

The thread I linked to before shows screenshots of Facebook forums. Firstly for pants like the ones in the op, secondly for plastic penises to put in little girls knickers, and thirdly for breast binders.

As a poster pointed out then, these items will actually induce gender dysphoria little kids.

And apparently jazz Jennings' mother was a moderator on one of the forums. I think one had 8000 members. 8000!

I'm not on Twitter, but i'm sure the Baroness would appreciate more information about these awful items, if someone could send her the link. Here is the link again.

The thread was almost exactly 3 years ago.

And you can see the terrible despair of women who know what's going on, but have no means of getting the word out there.

That, at least, has changed.

Again, I thank God for Maya.

Growing up, my brother once told everyone he was the pope, which must have been confusing for the adults in the family, especially as we weren't Catholic. Lucky thus was back in the 70s when people just smiled and said 'ah bless' when kids came out with crap, understanding by next week, he'd probably say he was the incredible hulk. If that happened now, people would advise my parents to change his religion, change his pronoun to your holiness and buy him a crozier.
