Good for her. Such a cheek to ask her to explain herself.

What I'd like the panel to explain is how her statement “We will not accept this gaslighting from men who keep telling us they are women” is disrespectful. She was responding to a tweet about male rapists! What about the dignity of their victims?

GroggyLegs · 22/04/2022 20:12

"Back in December the PCC retweeted and commented on a post from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling implying biologically male rapists are not female "

Wrap your head around that bit of nonsense.

I haven't come across Lisa Townsend before but, wow, she's hard as nails! Good on her.

Glenthebattleostrich · 22/04/2022 20:19

That's the bit that caught my eye too @GroggyLegs

I have been following this and absolutely love this woman, she is amazing.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 22/04/2022 20:20

Very impressed.

tabbycatstripy · 22/04/2022 20:26

She should stand as an MP.

HairyMuttttt · 22/04/2022 20:29

What a woman! She’s not some naughty school child who has to explain herself. She clearly has a proper grasp of the issues biological women face.

FOJN · 22/04/2022 20:29

Good for Lisa, her ovaries must be made of diamonds! I hope she is being well supported by people around her.

I thought this was quite an interesting part of the newspaper story.

Cllr Fury said: “If you are not legally bound to do so then we need to look again at how the complaints panel works.” The panel has no power,” said chairman Cllr Reeve. “The acid test is in the ballot box vote, and that’s the view of the legal people.”

Looks like one of the Councillors thinks they need to change how the complaints panel works so they'll be able to force the CPP to do as they're told the next time. Not threatening or anti-democratic at all.

HairyMuttttt · 22/04/2022 20:39

Also why is the complaints panel mostly older white males? Very strange …

Rightsraptor · 22/04/2022 20:44

I think I remember Lisa saying she has two law degrees so I'm sure she'll have checked out the legality of refusing to play according to the boys' rules. She does tread these boards from time to time so if she pops in now - we'll done Lisa! We're proud of you.

Lisa Townsend joins the list of women who stood up and said NO: Julie Bindel, Maya Forstater, Allison Bailey, Kemi Badenoch, JK Rowling, Raquel Rosario-Sanchez, Helen Joyce, Rosie Duffield, Emma Nicholson, Sharon Davies, Liz Truss, Sonia Sodha...

Who am I missing?

tabbycatstripy · 22/04/2022 21:08

Joanna Cherry.

There are only 5 comments below the article but they're well worth reading.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 22/04/2022 21:25

They spent two & a half hours discussing this for 4/7 to decide she had "failed to treat others with dignity and respect." RAPISTS they spent their time & energy to tell her off for not treating RAPISTS nicely.

Lisa 🥃

I want an “I shan’t be writing to Mr Blunt” t-shirt.

It’s like something Jane Austen would have said.

DdraigGoch · 22/04/2022 21:36

This comment summed it up:

A public official tweets her belief to the effect that rain is wet. A couple of Dry-Rain Church believers complain, and she's supposed to waste her time explaining her position to these morons?

ResisterRex · 22/04/2022 21:44

Well done Lisa! I would not apologise for this either. Over my dead body.

Very apt.

And I agree, Lisa Townsend is fabulous

gardenhelpneeded · 22/04/2022 22:02

You forgot Kellie-Jay! And Jo phoenix.

We are so lucky to have such fabulous, smart, brave women speaking out.

nepeta · 22/04/2022 22:02

She is so strong and brave.

FemaleAndLearning · 22/04/2022 22:05

Fantastic woman. I'm astonished how people defend rapists.

SpinningForVictory · 22/04/2022 22:34

I mean Crispin Blunt ffs. The one who recently disgraced himself by defending a convicted male child sex offender, right? Who had to resign as Chair of his APPG?

Lisa Townsend is absolutely right to tell him to take a hike.
