Peyton Thomas tells us on Twitter that the author of Little Women was transgender. twitter.com/peytonology/status/1516612189687324673

The current posthumous transitioning of many historical role models for women (Hathshepsut, Joan of Arc, Rosa Bonheur, Daphne du Maurier etc.) naturally follows once we adopt the gender identity ideology where 'woman' is re-defined as someone who is comfortable with the gender roles and norms the society she lives in has assigned the female sex.

So which famous women in history are we bog-standard women allowed to keep as role models under this new definition?

Gender is tosh, and Alcott was a woman and a female one at that. Let’s just ignore their pointless little games.

tabbycatstripy · 21/04/2022 17:35

Eye roll was violent with this one.

Some women have always ‘identified with’ the male sex, presumably because there were things many members of the male sex had that they didn’t: freedom, choices, professionals, money, the vote.

It doesn’t mean they thought of themselves as literally being members of the opposite sex.

Kanaloa · 21/04/2022 17:39

Yeah saw it recently about The Famous Five. Think it requires a total overlooking of the reason why some fictional girls historically might have been attracted to tomboyish behaviour/presenting as a ‘boy.’ George says it in The Famous Five - she doesn’t want to stay in the camp with Anne making tea and folding the pyjamas. She wants to go and have fun, sail, and play etc. These types of characters are obviously a reaction to female restrictions and a longing for the freedom and opportunities men had at that time, not evidence for trans people historically.

nepeta · 21/04/2022 17:40

Agreed. And the discrimination against women was always based on them being biologically female and had nothing to do with whatever gender identity (or none) they might have had. Men of that era could possess as 'female souls' as they wished, and nobody took away their superior legal status or their free access to almost all professions etc.

Beyond arrogant and presumptuous.

No one knows how that person would have chosen to define themselves. I get so tired of this crass using of other people to serve personal political agendas, no respect for anyone or anything.

Clymene · 21/04/2022 17:43

Peyton whatshername is a very silly woman.

ExMachinaDeus · 21/04/2022 17:54

Peyton Thomas can fuck the fuck off to the far side of fuck and then fuck off some more

Arrogance combined with ignorance is never a good look.

Musomama1 · 21/04/2022 18:10

The article should be called 'Belitted Woman'.

The reach for credibility with flimsy historical rewriting really makes my blood boil as female icons are being shat over.

Gender identity is, as is rammed down our throats by the TRAs, the way an individual views themselves, so how can you assign an identity onto someone else? You simply do not know Allcott, Joan of Arc, whoever thought that about themselves, and it probably wouldn't have been in an anachronistic away.

They constantly rewrite the rulebook to suit themselves. Leave Allcott the frig alone.

GrouchyKiwi · 22/04/2022 09:52

My usually-clever-in-other-situations friends always fall over themselves with delight whenever this sort of nonsense is spouted. They can use their impressive critical evaluation skills on everything else but this. It's so frustrating.

TheBiologyStupid · 22/04/2022 10:35

It's "self-id for me, but not for thee" all over again - cf. "cis", of course.

BootsAndRoots · 22/04/2022 11:42

The idea that any female warriors in the past must've been trans, means that when we look back at the Ukraine war any female fighters will have to be recorded as transgender (women that identified as men).

We know that is ridiculous, and I would hope that people remember that when they attempt to trans historical figures.

NoSquirrels · 22/04/2022 11:47

God I hate this shit.

Surely this is the only response

WellThatsMeScrewed · 22/04/2022 11:50

Women you can own nothing. Unless you’re a TW then you can own womanhood.

Fenlandia · 22/04/2022 11:54

I can still think of one mega-famous and successful female author the TRAs haven't tried to claim yet

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 22/04/2022 11:57

Whaaaaaaaaat? Anyone who’s ever read Little Women and knows that LMA based Jo on herself knows that LMA clearly quite wanted to be a boy, but as others have said there were huge (and unimaginable to us) sociological reasons for that. Bit much to start referring to her as “him” I think.

SScoobiedoo · 22/04/2022 12:28

Gender is used because Americans were too prudish to say sex.

BraveBananaBadge · 22/04/2022 12:35

This person has every right to put forward a silly theory - it's what follows that is so concerning. They want it to be true so badly they arrogantly declare it as if it is true. They immediately take it upon themselves switch Alcott's pronouns as they carry on discussing her (Hmm).

But the the comments are full of idiots praising them for this discovery, this new fact! "I didn't know this!", they're all excitedly replying. They pass this new-found 'knowledge' on. The idiocy spreads.

Happiness is slavery, and all that...

If you mean JKR, some idiots have actually tried claiming she’s repressing her trans identity.

Please tell me you're kidding...please 😫

Artichokeleaves · 22/04/2022 14:45

Oh activists have popped in here and tried to explain that female people who want rights are TM in denial, because not embracing oppression and subordination is not feminine and therefore anyone arguing back is a man.

Or something.

The response was largely one involving a head tilt.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 22/04/2022 14:51

Nah, it's true about activists saying JK is trans and doesn't know it.

IamAporcupine · 22/04/2022 14:58

How fucking backwards is all this?

It somehow reminds me of that article a while back claiming that female viking warriors (buried with spears etc) were transmen...

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 22/04/2022 15:01

Ye god's!

Rail against societal mores - trans

Fight patriarchal oppression - trans

Want to live within the stereotypes of societal mores for the opposite sex - trans

Want to just live your life and sod gendered clothing, all other expectations - tran

Fucking human beings with something called a PERSONALITY. FFS!

ExMachinaDeus · 22/04/2022 15:33

Yeah. Duh - History 101. Wanting to be a boy or a man had an entirely different meaning until oh, 3 years ago or so.
