How are you defining 'men', UN?

Interesting also how its assumed that a woman in the house somehow reduces the risk to said refugee.

That wife/girlfriend presumably has a job/life and will not be present 24/7. I dont see how being married makes the man.less of a risk to the refugee.

Nice indication of how women are nothing more than buffer zones

IknowMarty · 14/04/2022 14:35

Has no one told the UN that NAMALT.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 14/04/2022 14:44

Women here said weeks ago that due attention must be paid to safeguarding.

UN doesn't help, of course, with their muddling contribution to the erasure of women.

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, also known as UN Women, is a United Nations entity working for gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Fucking hell, exploiting refugees is the absolute depths of disgusting. We did all say on here ages ago that there needs to be special safeguarding for refugees being housed in private homes, but of course they only just seem to be considering this. I’m sure many more stories will emerge over time, unfortunately.

IsabelaMadrigal · 14/04/2022 16:04

I think there's going to be a sad sexual abuse scandal of women and children en masse thanks to this mess.

Putting the responsibility on private citizens is a safeguarding nightmare, and also sidesteps the government's own responsibility.

Of course predatory men will seek a loophole. This is Christmas to anyone with nefarious reasons to want access to vulnerable women and children.

Proper communities and facilities should be provided, not just hoping creepy men won't take advantage.

And furthermore this policy doesn't stop a coerced/trafficked/clueless woman offering her home and a man or men who know her to exploit that does it?

notprincehamlet · 14/04/2022 16:22

There've been a few articles in the Times about this - just awful
"Single British men offer beds to female refugees | News | The Times" www.thetimes.co.uk/article/single-british-men-offer-beds-to-female-refugees-d369hl6r7

Artichokeleaves · 14/04/2022 16:22

Ok so we've worked out that women and female arent the same thing when you get right down to it... well done UN, thats a baby step in the right direction.

Now let's work out what you mean by 'men' and then whether you've had to acknowledge a bit of reality that doesn't half mess with the rest of your tripe.

Dougalskeeper · 14/04/2022 16:26

What " proper communities and facilities"? Housing is at a premium in the UK. Not that I think these refugees should be housed with any old Tom, Dick, or Harry . Maybe only refugees with relatives resident in the UK should be accepted, if they are not being resettled as a family unit.

IsabelaMadrigal · 14/04/2022 16:30

Housing is at a premium because of the housing market and not available properties versus amount of people.

I don't know, I'll get clobbered here but maybe an incentive for landlords to rent their second homes out to refugees.

AmandaHoldensLips · 14/04/2022 16:36

So sick of these creepy bastard men who will take advantage of any opportunity to exploit women and girls for their sexual gratification. It's disgusting and makes me want to burn everything down.

2Gen · 14/04/2022 16:41

Well this is going to be a disaster, seeing as the UN and governments and judges now claim they can't even define what a woman is, in which case they will probably soon be claiming they can't define what a man is either! They're lying of course, they know damn well! Shame on them!
As if these poor women and children haven't suffered enough already!

DomesticatedZombie · 14/04/2022 17:03

Yes, 2Gen. I think there are going to have to be some swift realisations that waving away all the sex differences as colonial indulgence is likely to lead to some horrendously dangerous situations.

' the head of safeguarding at Refugee Action has previously told the Observer the scheme was at risk of becoming a "Tinder for sex traffickers". '

ChopinBoard · 14/04/2022 17:13

But, but, but no man would go to such lengths just to abuse women and children! Ffs, when will apologists realise that there are men who would do literally anything to abuse women and children?!

The whole thing is disgusting and not remotely surprising.

MargaritaPie · 14/04/2022 17:53

IMO I think saying "man bad, woman good" is an extreme over-simplification, and it's worth noting that anyone can be a sex trafficker.

It's best IMO to try to avoid generalisations and take each case into consideration individually.

DomesticatedZombie · 14/04/2022 18:02

With your keen interest on the subject you should maybe get in touch with the UN and offer them your thoughts, Margarita.

NewBootsAndRanty · 14/04/2022 18:04

I wondered when Ms PIE would turn up to defend the menz...

But MP on what grounds would anyone have confidence in your reading comprehension or general perspective on matters.

There have been so many times when your own links don't support the interpretation that you claim to the point of saying the opposite and contradicting you so it would seem unwise to rely upon you in this sensitive area.

JC544D · 14/04/2022 18:17

I think making stereotypes and generalisations about any very broad group of human beings, millions of human beings, is never good.

Artichokeleaves · 14/04/2022 18:18

Difference between generalisation and basic pattern recognition and common sense though. Willful naivety and fact blindness for political virtue is so 2021.

98% and all that.

JC544D · 14/04/2022 18:33

So does this include male doctors, nurses, teachers, carers... etc?

Artichokeleaves · 14/04/2022 18:42

Oh how about Met police officers?

They're safe as houses aren't they? How about MPs? (Sec while I check today's papers for 'nice' blokes just done for sex offence convictions...)

Sexnotgender · 14/04/2022 18:44

@JC544D

Of course. Why would it not?

Just today was reading about a GP done for a myriad of sexual offences against women and girls.
JC544D · 14/04/2022 18:47

The European male population is 361.2 million in 2022.

Are they somehow immune from being predatory? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-61107919
