How are you defining 'men', UN?

The world male population is 3.97 billion males.

@JC544D

The world male population is 3.97 billion males.
And?

@JC544D

?
NewBootsAndRanty · 14/04/2022 19:06

The world female population is 3,951,626,924.
None of them have sexually assaulted me.

Unfortunately I can't say the same about men.

Artichokeleaves · 14/04/2022 19:09

I think the point is that it's more important that female refugees are exposed to risk and harm than we risk male people having hurt feelings and feeling offended by association.

I have to say I don't agree.

BobLep0nge · 14/04/2022 19:09

I think making stereotypes and generalisations about any very broad group of human beings, millions of human beings, is never good

I'll listen to the argument for NAMALT when males stop committing 98% of sexual crimes.

Riapia · 14/04/2022 19:17

Does it apply to trans men?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 14/04/2022 19:19

The whole 'pick me' set up involving videos etc. was always going to support this sort of exploitation and by borrowing familiar mechanisms served to normalise it.

Sexnotgender · 14/04/2022 20:14

@Riapia

Does it apply to trans men?
Well they’re female so I’d assume not
MoltenLasagne · 14/04/2022 20:31

Even beyond the awfulness of this, the fact that it was ever considered acceptable for this private set up where incredibly vulnerable people will be placed with individuals who don't speak their language is just ripe for exploitation. Yes sex trafficking, but also just mundane, everyday awful trafficking and modern day slavery too is going to be the guaranteed outcome.

TheWeeDonkey · 14/04/2022 20:39

@MargaritaPie

IMO I think saying "man bad, woman good" is an extreme over-simplification, and it's worth noting that anyone can be a sex trafficker.

It's best IMO to try to avoid generalisations and take each case into consideration individually.

Yes but how do you differentiate between a sex traffickers and the peer to peer support services you usually champion on this forum?
DomesticatedZombie · 14/04/2022 21:20

@JC544D

So does this include male doctors, nurses, teachers, carers... etc?
Doctors like this one?

'GP sexually abused 48 patients over 35 years'
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-61107919

Or this one:
'Llanelli surgeon faces indecent images of children charge'
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-61105586

Policemen like this one?
'Met Police officer Francois Olwage guilty of child sex offences'
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-61109924

All from today's BBC news.

Well yes, exactly.

I'm just amazed no one thought this through...

When I was sexually abused as a child it was by a GP who was a family friend so I sincerely hope so! Occupation doesn't make any of these people "safer". The risk comes from men.
IsabelaMadrigal · 14/04/2022 21:36

No and predatory men deliberately manoever themselves into positions where they can access victims. Which is why these careers have higher safeguarding practice to combat that.

Honestly, this is safeguarding 101.

titchy · 14/04/2022 21:49

It's worth noting the sex traffic 'industry' wouldn't exist unless men wanted to abuse women - women aren't trafficked to have sex with other women are they? Hmm

ColinRobinsonsFart · 14/04/2022 22:36

DH and I are waiting for our Ukrainian guests to arrive ( their permission to travel letters have arrived) so I have up to now spent ages on Facebook pages dedicated to matching homes to guests. This is all very Heath Robinson- we are doing what the government should be doing.
These groups are full of profiles from refugees and sponsors. It's like internet dating. We see many young women on there and signpost them towards groups who specialise in placing women.
We chose a retired couple even though DH and I have enhanced DBS.
I have seen some creepy men on the groups - the pretty young girls are very popular I know they have been getting inappropriate messages.
A group I am in has become private so they can throw out the creeps and keep them out.

I predicted all this to DH at the beginning... it is a disaster waiting to happen!

DomesticatedZombie · 14/04/2022 22:56

Oh, god, Colin, that's horrible to hear about the messages. I hope to god there are more measures put in place to help avoid these issues. I wonder if the gov will issue refugees with clear instructions in Ukrainian/Russian to let them know their rights and how to access help and support?

We are also seeing quite a few Ukrainians coming over on a 'family' visa - to distant relatives. Then finding out when they get here the accommodation is not suitable. These family visas are given without checks on the accommodation - we have had checks because we aren't related to our guests. Also there have been instances where young women have been due to arrive at a hosts house/close train station and they haven't arrived. They just disappeared. I know of one girl who was found in London - the police and social services were involved. The hosts were beside themselves with worry. As I said - we chose a retired couple. He was an engineer and she a lecturer. We won't have to worry about them if they go out! DH and I have done our 'parenting young people' time....got the t shirt etc!
JC544D · 15/04/2022 01:35

ColinRobinsonsFart, decides who is 'creepy or not'.

I think that says it all.

JC544D · 15/04/2022 01:48

Good luck anyway, to anyone trying to help these desperate people. You have may upmost respect. Lots of love. X

JC544D · 15/04/2022 01:50

Good luck, ColinRobinsons

Thank you

I have used the words the young girls have used to describe men who have been asking them if they are virgins, whether they will want to share a bed, what their relationship is.

Tbh I think creepy is a kind word.

So no.... I have not decided who is and who isn't creepy.

LauriePartridge4Eva · 15/04/2022 07:05

You don't understand group analysis, do you?

AuxArmesCitoyens · 15/04/2022 12:58

I saw a thing on TV the other day about a Ukrainian woman who has been running a matchmaking business between Europe and Ukraine for years. She said she'd been inundated with calls from hugely creepy men offering to take in a lady Ukrainian refugee Envy

Men gonna men, I guess.
