Lord Winston has been praised e.g. on Question Times for pulling no punches re changing sex e.g. sex is immutable.

But in this interview he seems he is pulling back from answering straight questions and changing the narrative. Weird. He demurred from answering 'what is a woman' by saying it was the wrong question to ask and went off at a tangent....

What's going on?

Names arfe in bold. He has said he had no idea what 'being kind' would lead to. He based his change of mind on his experiences treating some trans individuals, sorry but the DM had the clearest link

‘There is a real risk in doing this, because if you look at the results of gender reassignment, the results are horrendous in such a big proportion of cases.

This cauesd a huge backlash and he has been TERVEN ever since.

Given where he started and how determindely he turned around I am not going to criticise him, many of us here had the same moment and I am damned if I am going to apologise, or expect an apology, from anyone else who went through that process.
