Emily Bridges has been barred from competing

Knockon · 30/03/2022 20:47

Posted too soon! Just saw as breaking news.

SirChenjins · 30/03/2022 20:48

Excellent news!

Men posing as women have no place in women’s sport - let’s hope this is the pendulum swinging back to common sense and fact.

browneyesblue · 30/03/2022 20:49

I wondered the same, then saw that she had been liking a lot of Sharron Davies’ tweets on the issue. She may be keeping her head down a bit, but I don’t think she disagrees

Finally some common sense

Jessie Knight as well

With the greatest respect to Sally she has much less to lose.

Definitely but I wonder if it encourages others to speak out when big names do.

It's like a snowball effect, once one starts thankfully others follow.

and she's a bit like JKR, she's much less likely to be 'cancelled'
TinDogTavern · 30/03/2022 21:18

Fantastic to see these brilliant female athletes finding their voices. Courage calls to courage.

DomesticatedZombie · 30/03/2022 21:25

How wonderful to see all these women (and men) speaking out in support of women's sports. Bravo. Flowers

Dinosauria · 30/03/2022 21:51

It does and we do need her, and in fairness it sadly still takes great courage and bravery as the hate directed as such women is intense.

CaveMum · 30/03/2022 21:58

Ex Rugby player Daniel Leo has also been very vocal in the past too.

MoltenLasagne · 30/03/2022 21:59

Yes Sally Gunnell!

Cuck00soup · 30/03/2022 22:06

Yes. Thank You Sal.

So pleased to see the gathering moss. At last.

GCAcademic · 30/03/2022 22:11

Would love to hear Laura Kenny speak up about this. She is in the race that Emily Bridges was due to take part in.

Daley Thompson is also supporting it. Glad this madness is being called out for what it is!

thirdfiddle · 30/03/2022 22:24

Yesss! So inspiring, and particularly those currently competing athletes now standing up.

Daley Thompson is a long-term supporter. He attended the big sports WPUK event in 2019 and is a regular support to Sharron Davies.

Yes. Perhaps a 5 x olympic champion and a Dame stands a chance of not being cancelled, even by British Cycling
onlymyselftoanswerto1 · 30/03/2022 22:55

Thanks for that @EmbarrassingHadrosaurus that makes me love him even more!

I hope these amazing women's voices are heard and the powers that be start to take notice.

RhymesWithOrange · 30/03/2022 23:21

Yea, I saw Daley at the WPUK event with Sharron. Properly starstruck.

Really pleased Sally Gunnell has spoken out. It makes it easier for current athletes to have a voice. Kelly Holmes and Tani Grey Thompson have also been brilliant in the past.

SpidersAreShitheads · 31/03/2022 00:19

@AlwaysFireFighting I wasn't sure about Kylie Grimes either but she's definitely on the right side. She's tweeted other things about women's rights and sports, and clearly isn't supporting trans inclusion. Here's a link to one of her other retweets twitter.com/andyturner110h/status/1495410831214972933?s=20&t=bjeIVr4ATPnmBxWLaI3WUw

That's great news if its true, so you have a source for this please?
Brushteethwashface · 31/03/2022 00:46

Love love Sally Gunnell, brilliant memory of watching her win her gold when I was 15 and our whole family were in the lounge cheering. I’m definitely not an athlete, couldn’t hurdle a thing if my life depended on it but she was so good and she did it with such passion and commitment and that really resonated at the time in my mixed up teenage girl mind.
