Can't believe my eyes. Is it real? Surely not?

Southwark News story

Why isn't the "all trans" team playing the men's team I wonder!

OP posts:
Rightsraptor · 25/03/2022 12:22

Well, am I glad I no longer live in Dulwich.

MarshmallowSwede · 25/03/2022 12:23

Why aren’t they playing against the men’s team? They are biological men, therefore should be playing other men or at least another trans team. Where is the trans men’s team? They can play them.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 25/03/2022 12:26

Is that photo purporting to show the team of TW?

So confusing, what does "all transgender female" mean? To me that would mean trans men.

Rhannion · 25/03/2022 12:32

FFS!
Utter nonsense
Did you see the article underneath that one?

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2022 12:36

I may be misreading but it’s not Dulwich Hanlet as per title, they are women

They are playing TRUK who are not

Dulwich Hamlet will compete against Trans Radio UK United FC (TRUK) on 31 March.
TRUK United’s squad will consist only of transgender women, who will take to the pitch against Dulwich Hamlet’s womens team.

TRUK are fine to go ahead but should play the men’s team

MoonOnASpoon · 25/03/2022 12:37

Also, I know it's supposedly transphobic to point out that someone doesn't look like a woman, but well over half of them don't look any different from bogstandard normal male blokes in a slightly unusual coloured kit. I genuinely can't work out if these are TW, TM or a mixture.

MoonOnASpoon · 25/03/2022 12:38

Their website says the team is open to anyone.
trukunitedfc.com/about[

Which I actually applaud and trans teams are a great idea - but in a trans league playing against each other.

TortugaRumCakeQueen · 25/03/2022 12:40

When will this madness end?

TraceyLacey · 25/03/2022 12:44

@MoonOnASpoon are you thinking the ones with beards or the ones with male pattern baldness?

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/03/2022 12:46

Under FA rules, are mixed sex adult football matches sanctioned? The policies I could find on the FA website are fairly old (2014/15) and mention that players wanting to play as the opposite gender (their word not mine) need to apply and show various evidence as to why that's appropriate. Including evidence of SRS and/or hormone treatment.

crumpet · 25/03/2022 12:47

On the face of it, it doesn’t look like any sort of a league game, so there’s nothing to stop any team playing whoever they like, whether it’s Women’s, mens or trans.

But at the point where a trans womens team enters a womens league (let’s say limited to 12 teams), then there will be a Women’s team which has just lost a place in the league. Which is not acceptable

A580Hojas · 25/03/2022 12:53

"I may be misreading but it’s not Dulwich Hanlet as per title, they are women"

What does this mean @MarshaBradyo?

OP posts:
BootsAndRoots · 25/03/2022 12:56

Apparently every single player in the photograph is a trans woman.

Excuse me Dulwich Hamlet Women's football team, wth?
Mistressiggi · 25/03/2022 12:58

It's not the Dulwich team that consists of trans players, she means. They are the opposition

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2022 12:58

Op I mean Dulwich Hamlet are the team of women they are playing against

Your title might be better as Trans Radio UK United FC wth as that is the transgender team

Imo fine that it exists but they should play categorised as a men’s side.

ScreamingMeMe · 25/03/2022 12:59

The one about the TRA who made the "Kill JK Rowling" placards, who now wants to be an MP? God help us!

You have both misunderstood my thread title.

I am questioning why the women's team have agreed to participate in this charade?

Oh right

I wouldn’t put the blame with them first but up to you.

NecessaryScene · 25/03/2022 13:00

“TRUK United FC are a fully inclusive team open to everyone but depending on our opponents certain restrictions may apply,” said Lucy. “We are always looking for new people to join our team.”

"Certain restrictions" meaning presumably sometimes there might be an opponent who doesn't want to play males? Or something else?

If it's "open to everyone", that is lovely and inclusive, but how come this team is going to be "solely transgender women"? Hmm

Strikes me that their team selection process and opponent selection process might be a tad self-serving.

Or are they planning a follow-up event against a men's team with a team of "solely transgender men"?

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/03/2022 13:02

I would imagine they've been told to "be kind" and that any issues raised will be treated as a transphobic hate crime, seems the usual way of things.

There are very good reasons why football is not a mixed sex sport. I worry about the physical safety of the women involved in this match.

NecessaryScene · 25/03/2022 13:05

Good point. Who organised this, and are the members of Dulwich's team free to opt out?

On the face of it, it doesn’t look like any sort of a league game, so there’s nothing to stop any team playing whoever they like, whether it’s Women’s, mens or trans.

Yes, teams should be free to do what they like. But if they are in any way compelling female players to play against male players, then we have an issue.

And given the histrionics around this sort of thing, I have a sneaking suspicion players may not feel free to decline.

A580Hojas · 25/03/2022 13:05

I'm disappointed in the women going along with this, absolutely.

I can't speak for the "trans" team and the referee who has dreamt up this idea, I feel I have nothing in common with them and can't align myself in the way that I can with women.

If I was a woman in sport I like to feel I would fight for women's sports to be kept exclusively for women, for all the reasons everyone knows about already.

OP posts:
WeWillLookBack · 25/03/2022 13:06

I can't believe that a woman's team have agreed. How can they think this is progressive or right?

They will know how hard it has been / still is for Womens teams - why ?
