Can't believe my eyes. Is it real? Surely not?

Southwark News story

Why isn't the "all trans" team playing the men's team I wonder!

OP posts:
Linguini · 25/03/2022 14:32

Fine. But why are they playing the women's team? It's because they want to win!

Maybe the men's teams have all refused to play them? Maybe the women's team offered a challenge?

If the women have offered and genuinely agreed (not told to stfu and got a load of insults thrown at them) then I don't see the problem it's like a "pretend/playful" match for charity. Not a proper match.

As someone pointed out most of the players look old enough to be a grandparent and many might have mental health problems.

They are not proper hard physically intense sportspeople by the looks of it.

I actually agree with all trans teams, it's actually the only solution that makes sense. Fair enough they should all just play against each other, and they probably do that the rest of the time.

I can't get het up.

eddiemairswife · 25/03/2022 14:35

They don't look very fit or sporty.

Absurdle · 25/03/2022 14:46

Seems like a stupid thing to agree to.

They lose, and it’s embarrassing for a premier league team to lose to a bunch of randos.

They win, and they beat a bunch of randos.

And on top of that there’s the injury risk.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/03/2022 14:48

That's a spoof news site

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/03/2022 14:52

It's on Dulwich Hamlet FCs news section, so the substance of the story is true.

No it's not

What annoys me generally, is this 'being denied the to play sport' narrative. Anyone can play sport. Male sports have an enormous issue with homophobia, but they are starting to address that and should come and say they welcome Trans women into their teams, instead of letting women deal with this crap.

Women's sport has never had an issue with homophobia, as far as I know, so why can't men step up and actively welcome trans women into their sports, so they can't continue this lie narrative that they are excluded from sports.

theDudesmummy · 25/03/2022 15:14

Transwomen (ie certain men) not being comfortable on men's teams is men's problem. Not women's.

MsFogi · 25/03/2022 15:32

@A580Hojas

You have both misunderstood my thread title.

I am questioning why the women's team have agreed to participate in this charade?

Indeed - they need to politely decline to play football against a load of blokes who say they are women!
EyesOpening · 25/03/2022 23:32

@Justme56

So the photo is of a team of trans people (various genders/sexes) who have agreed to play against another team of trans women? The text is confusing.
No. The photo shows some/all the people (various genders/sexes) who belong to Trans Radio UK United FC (TRUK). TRUK will be fielding a team of ONLY TW in a match against Dulwich Hamlet’s women's team.
GroggyLegs · 26/03/2022 00:25

I get that they should be playing a male team, but in these circumstances it's a group of random people who've got together for a charity match to raise money for their radio station, not a league game. We have mixed sex kick abouts & it gets competitive but friendly, nobody's slide tackling anyone's ankles.

As PP said
As long as members of the DH women's team are allowed to withdraw from the match without penalty or accusations of hate then fair enough

It's newsworthy in a local paper because they've had a sport press release about a charity match involving the 'first' trans team with a quote about equality etc etc. Ticks loads of boxes to fill half a page.

Sport is great for reconnecting with your body & improving your mental health. I hope the article and the match encourages more trans people to join the team & eventually a mixed or third space league can evolve. I also hope the Dulwich Hamlet men's team extend an invite for the next match.

MsFogi · 26/03/2022 00:31

If the women have been told to 'be kind'/that they are transphobic if they don't go along with this etc and don't feel they can speak out, they need to unfortunately get covid this weekend.

Needmoresleep · 26/03/2022 03:12

Dulwich Hamlet is the London team the wokieblokies support when they want to say they support grass roots football. It has some weird sort of cache. The people I know are young left wing public school types who will have swallowed the LGBTQ+++ alphabet.

The newspaper article says their opponents will be an all trans women team though some of the names mentioned sound like trans men. Who knows. Perhaps they got confused.

I don’t have a problem. Trans people can have their own team. They are entitled to play whoever agrees to play them. It’s not a league or cup match. They would not be good enough to play the mens team. If the women’s team are willing to take them on, so what. I hope it is a good match.

garlictwist · 26/03/2022 04:13

I once took part in a just for fun mixed football match as part of DHs work. a bloke tackled a woman and knocked her out! Unintentionally of course. But it just shows the reason why this is a bad idea.

Villagewaspbyke · 26/03/2022 04:20

I think mixed team sports is fine if everyone knows that what it is.

EyesOpening · 26/03/2022 06:47

The newspaper article says their opponents will be an all trans women team though some of the names mentioned sound like trans men. Who knows. Perhaps they got confused.

The article also says
Previous players for the squad have been”
before stating any names and then going on to say that
“ says the match, …will “make history” as it is the first time an all transgender female squad has been fielded in a football game.”

There are more people who are in the club than just the ones who are going to play in the match, and they include people other than TW.

I do wonder though, especially given as it says transgender females, and many people get confused between TW and TM if the women know they’re going to play a team of measles.

EyesOpening · 26/03/2022 06:47

Measles???!! Males!

nettie434 · 26/03/2022 08:46

It says in the article that the TRUK team aim to 'win at least one match' so the Dulwich team are probably much better than them in terms of coaching and ability as they are in the 5th tier (out of 10) of the women's football pyramid

Women haven't been excluded from the TRUK team by someone who experienced male puberty. It's a fundraising match. The teams won't use the same changing room. I think it's fine myself.

Queenoftheashes · 26/03/2022 08:57

I think it’s great. We need more trans teams. No one wants to exclude them from sport just ensure they aren’t unfairly taking women’s opportunities. Football is a far cry from cage fighting or even rugby. As long as the women’s team are happy to play them (and I don’t think this match is an important one as such) then it seems fine and really a step in the right direction.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 26/03/2022 08:59

I don’t have a problem with this. The women know who they’re playing & it looks like they can withdraw if they want. It’s a world away from a womens team rocking up with TW central midfielder and insisting they’re still an all female team

A580Hojas · 26/03/2022 09:03

Again the question: why are they not playing an all male team? I hope the women wipe the floor with them.

OP posts:
Needmoresleep · 26/03/2022 09:10

Do you know that they don’t? Dulwich Hamlets men would be far too good for a group of casual Sunday players. It will be interesting to see if the women, with better skills, tactics and training, can beat them.

FuckeryOmbudsman · 26/03/2022 09:15

TRUK are a scratch team that play friendly and charity matches only.

Dulwich Hamlet play in an amateur league, so much have chosen to play this team because they want to, in addition to their usual fixtures.

I think they are capable of making that decision, or do women's squads need some form of guardian to make their decisions for them?

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 26/03/2022 10:24

Sports are played in single-sex teams for safety as well as fairness. Male bodies being larger, heavier and faster will cause more serious injuries to women in a collision. It’s so bloody obvious.

By all means have trans teams, if members don’t want to play for their own sex. But TW should play other Male teams.

Needmoresleep · 26/03/2022 10:51

Huh? DD used to play mixed hockey as a teenager, with adults and as a goalie. Scratch friendly team, with quite a lot of care and consideration. Probably more than when playing club hockey against a womens team. She played mixed hockey in sixth form as well. I don’t know as much about football, and girls till recently tended to have less grounding, but I can’t see why mixed football should not exist. I certainly can’t see why a womens team should not play against a mens team in a non competition match.. The English womens team has done. And, say, women tennis players regularly practice against men.
