Hospital told police patient not raped because attacker transgender

A hospital told the police that a patient could not have been raped because her alleged attacker was trans, the House of Lords has heard.

The attack took place a year ago and the woman reported it but when officers contacted the hospital, which has not been named, they were told “that there was no male in the hospital, therefore the rape could not have happened”.

Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, who raised the issue during a debate on single-sex wards, continued: “They forgot that there was CCTV, nurses and observers.

“None the less, it has taken nearly a year for the hospital to agree that there was a male on the ward and, yes, this rape happened.

@Dendrite. I’m afraid I disagree.

They absolutely CAN See. They ALL know full well.

PrelateChuckles · 18/03/2022 14:06

Is there a direct source for the Blah Blah Blah "advice "?

Noisyprat · 18/03/2022 14:06

@Nnique

Some DH’s need to wake the fuck up and actually THINK about what this means for their wives, daughters, mothers, all women. And what it means for children of both sexes, young people of both sexes and furthermore for the moral wellbeing of humanity as a whole.
I said this to him. We have talked further and I have said that I am utterly disgusted with his opinion and maybe we don't have much in common any more.
Oblomov22 · 18/03/2022 14:19

It's not just the hospitals fault here though. It's the police as well. why did they not investigate properly? so police asked the hospital : was this woman raped and the response was no. there are no men here. so the police, finish? And say : oh, that's alright then. Hoorah. Errr no. Major failing by the police here aswell!

Oblomov22 · 18/03/2022 14:21

That post was on response to TheIne:

"The staff should be investigated by the police. "

Well, the Police need to be investigated themselves too, don't they?

ATeamAmy · 18/03/2022 14:22

Feminist Claire on Youtube has done a number of videos, analysing the different contributions in the Lords' debate on single sex wards from a safe guarding point of view. She's excellent on safeguarding issues in general and how so called trans rights fly in the face of normal safeguarding procedure and assumptions.

Furries · 18/03/2022 14:22

I keep taking breaks from this board because my brain and mood cannot take the constant examples of this complete madness.

To come back today and read this has made me feel sick. That poor woman, no words cover how horrific this is. I, too, want to know what hospital this was. There is no way that they shouldn’t be named.

I am SO FUCKING ANGRY. I don’t have much of a filter, nor the patience, to post “properly” on this board - so am immensely grateful to those who do.

Yet again, it’s really bloody interesting to see which threads DON’T have the usual defenders on. They can all get to fuck too - what more will it take for them to understand basic biology and the need for female only spaces?

Dendrite · 18/03/2022 14:24

@Nnique I'm hoping there are those who haven't thought it through properly, especially as the countering voices have been / are still being systematically squashed so not giving the true picture of the opposing arguments. Though many just don't give a damn as long as they're not inconvenienced.

blessedday · 18/03/2022 14:28

Jesus. H. Christ. this makes my blood boil. How do we get out of this god-forsaken, Alice in wonderland, through the looking glass pile of shite situation where it's always women and girls on the receiving end of this trans bullshit?

theresAtablet4thatNow · 18/03/2022 14:32

Insanity. That poor woman! It's time for the world to put the brakes on all the pandering and tip-toeing and outright lying about biological realities for fear of hurting someone's feelings.

KittyLeMew · 18/03/2022 14:33

@PrelateChuckles The Blah Blah Blah response is here, part of the Baroness full speech:

www.theyworkforyou.com/lords/?id=2022-03-16a.427.0&s=prison

“Of course, a number of colleagues in this House take their briefings from a lobby group called Stonewall. Stonewall has declared in its briefing for responses to this debate that any comments from me and others—the noble Lord, Lord Blencathra, for example—should be responded to by saying, “Blah, blah, blah”. I suggest that this is infinitely too serious for such a response.”

ChristinaXYZ · 18/03/2022 14:36

@IcakethereforeIam

Let's be 'Mothers'! None of those fuckers would be here without us. Don't make me count to five!

Wrie to your MP, if you email Inc your contact detail, hand delivery a letter to their office, talk to other mums on the school run/at work, does anyone have ideas for a petition that isn't too GC? If so share it. Get signatures on the school run. Local Gov. elections in May, candidates should be announced in April, would standing for LG be possible for some of you? I know nothing of the process but I think hats have to be in the ring by 5th April. Contact the candidates. Speak, if canvassed on your doorstep. Attend events. Make your voice heard.

Sorry, getting a bit carried away. But I fear (know) I'm going to watch this thread slide down the page and nothing will change. We're angry, let's do something useful with it.

I am going to see what I can do.

We have pester everyone with any power or influence over this. @MrsOvertonsWindow made some very good points on the other thread which are useful to bring up if writing to your MP. this review which came out of the last fuss made over this looks loaded from the start.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4506395-Fears-over-flawed-NHS-single-sex-wards-review-carried-out-by-trans-advocate?pg=2

In the light of the outrage over this - please consider writing to your MP in England over the flawed reviews of single sex spaces in the NHS.

I hope we can get a real campaign going.

The Maya Forstater employment tribunal this week has also revealed a very puritan streak in which people are very upset and uncomfortable at being made to think about sexual behaviour, genitals, the reality of the human body and so on.

To the extent that the woman on the witness stand expressed her distress at having to talk about penises to the (male) barrister yet is a deeply committed advocate of letting penises into the single sex spaces of women and girls when at their most vulnerable.

The cognitive dissonance is unreal.

AlsoNotAGirl · 18/03/2022 14:39

Each time I think I’ve reached the point of not being shocked I read something else that shocks me anew.

From Baroness Nicholson’s speech
“Of course, a number of colleagues in this House take their briefings from a lobby group called Stonewall. Stonewall has declared in its briefing for responses to this debate that any comments from me and others—the noble Lord, Lord Blencathra, for example—should be responded to by saying, “Blah, blah, blah”. I suggest that this is infinitely too serious for such a response.”

How can anyone with a modicum of intelligence receiving this briefing advice not challenge it? At the very least it should cause them to start questioning Stonewalls advice.

The Maya Forstater employment tribunal this week has also revealed a very puritan streak in which people are very upset and uncomfortable at being made to think about sexual behaviour, genitals, the reality of the human body and so on.

It's also in the "Quantum Impact" report that Maya asking their trainer (also working on the report) about her lesbian friend not wanting penises was viewed as "sexual harassment".

oakleaffy · 18/03/2022 14:40

I am so angry and sickened by incidents like this.
Men male DNA, the body strength to hurt true women.
“No men on the ward?”
What “ Right on”denial are we living in?

CakeAmbushAlert · 18/03/2022 14:41

If the person self-identified as a hippo would they put them in a zoo and tell the vet that there are no humans in the enclosure? No!

Putting trans rights over & above womans rights to safe spaces. Appalling.

Rhannion · 18/03/2022 14:41

@MaeveKerrigan

I have just talked about this case to my DH who has actually accused me of having transphobic tendencies. I despair.
I’m sorry but I couldn’t be with a partner who can’t see how disgusting and dangerous this situation is.

Up in Scotland we have a vile and ridiculous situation where trans identifying man, without any GRC , is CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis who has said on record that rape survivors should “ reframe their trauma “ and used the word “ bigots “ when referring to women.
How would that poor woman have felt if she needed counseling from that organization? Lied to by the hospital first , lied to , completely let down and abandoned by the police.

Recently a trans identifying man who works at the Open University said on the Kaye Adams Radio programme that “ it’s didn’t matter if crime statistics went up “ when referring to the self ID bill up here opening up women’s spaces to men.
It’s heartbreaking, mind boggling and disgusting what is going on.

It's the attack on his cognitive dissonance. He finds it uncomfortable to consider that he might have got it wrong, and the price for being unwoke is a high one. People will do anything to avoid thinking about it too deeply.

Totally agree. It is not easy to start having doubts about what you thought was 'the right side'. But many of us went through the same, so I hope that many others are able to see it too. I've decided I'm not keeping quiet anymore.
Dendrite · 18/03/2022 14:44

@OvaHere
We seem to live in a world full of immature adults professing their distress at being asked to confront material reality whilst simultaneously enabling the potential for real, material harms to a huge number of people.

ChristinaXYZ · 18/03/2022 14:45

The way the main media outlets cover this - or don't - really makes me cross. Nothing at all on the BBC, not even their health pages. Not on ITV or Sky. It is the lead article on the GBNews website though.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/03/2022 14:46

That's exactly it, Dendrite
