Congratulations to Emma Weyant (20), who, earlier this evening, was the fastest woman in the 500 yard freestyle at the NCAA Swimming and Diving championships.

She has won the silver medal, in deference to Lia Thomas's authentic self.

It might be narcissism, actually. Trump (if he did sports) would do something similar if he transitioned. He would then immediately be the most oppressed person on earth, by the way, even if he changed nothing in his behaviour.

Some men get a massive kick out of coercing and subordinating others, especially those they consider lesser than them.

None of this behaviour is new it's just the latest iteration.

I do not have any competitive children, and I am not a driven competitive person either but following this story have made me cry. Literally. I am so moved by the plight of those girls.

Here is what I do not understand - why are the Uni, the coach, the refs, in short all the infrastructure around mega dollar univercity sports staying silent?

Surely the coach is cheating as much as this Thomas person?

I do not understand why they are not named and shamed alongside this swimmer?

It's such deplorable injustice, but seeing those women together lifted my heart a little and gave me hope that the pushback might be beginning.

It's almost as if Lia Thomas had grown up knowing, oh what's it called again... oh yeah. Male privilege.

I just can't believe that Mr Thomas thinks any medal they win ACTUALLY MEANS ANYTHING.
How does he reconcile those medals with his conscience?

He was a mediocre swimmer as a man.
He is now beating women and winning medals. But it doesn't MEAN anything! Can't he see that?
It's like me shoving a four year old out of the way during a sports day event, winning the race and then declaring myself the true winner.
Then expecting everybody to acknowledge that I'm the winner, and get upset if anyone points out the obvious disparity.

Surely in his heart he knows that those wins mean zilch.

Can anyone remember that rap video posted here a few years ago that was basically the adult male rapper going back to his junior school and taking all the sports day prizes he didn't win as a child?

I can't remember what it was called but we are suffering a version of that. Thomas couldn't cut it in the men's league so he's stealing from women.

I think This picture sums up feelings of the women competing - the women are the 2nd & 3rd place celebrating with the one who came 4th

Whenever I watch football with my husband and they're all lining up at the beginning, I drive him mad "is he really big or is he really small?" However I do understand that on a football pitch different physiques suit different positions and they're all the same sex.

I'm just reminded of that when looking at this picture.

I have been trying to understand this for many years now, because this is not the first event something similar happened. But I can't understand it. When I try to put myself in the shoes of someone who has transitioned into womanhood I immediately feel that my identifying WITH women would necessitate that I don't shove myself forward when I have an unfair advantage.

A trans woman activist (Susyn Stryker, I think) once said that the TERFs are like Donald Trump in trying to ban certain refugees from being allowed into the country of women.

I don't see refugees in many of these trans women, but colonisers who take over and change all the laws in the blink of an eye.

That is probably an exaggerated take, but humility is not a characteristic that shines through in the publicly discussed cases. It looks much more like a colonisation of the women's country, where laws are changed, including the law about what determines citizenship in the country.

It is no longer being born there at all. Imagine real refugees doing something like that!

The vast majority of refugees do not act like that and the very few who try are stopped.

Inclusion sounds great in the abstract or when its someone elses opportunities that you're giving away. When its your own opportunities it hits very differently.

Some people are able to worry about other women and others only worry aout themselves. Most of us will never go to prison or compete in high level sports but compassionate women know that these should only ever be single sex even if it will never directly impact us
