Met Police Racism target black girl on her period

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted already but apologies if it has.

Police strip search black school girl

The details are in the story but I was appalled when I heard the details come out. Absolutely no evidence was found but even if the girl had a small amount of cannabis, is it that important to the police to justify forcing a minor to remove her tampon? Where's the sense of proportion? Answer, racism doesn't understand the phrase.

It was discussed in a thread started yesterday in AIBU. That poster was kind enough to put a trigger warning in the title.

Long discussion on AIBU. This is just shocking (trigger warning -racism) http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4505888-This-is-just-shocking-trigger-warning-racism

Ugh, I saw this in the news yesterday. Absolutely hideous experience for that poor girl. No reason why they couldn't wait until a parent or trusted adult was present. And a strip search for cannabis? Why?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 16/03/2022 17:41

Thank you for the apology. We have a thread already, which has been going since yesterday. In the thread we have been discussing where best to apply public pressure. Have you written to your MP or made a complaint to the Met yet?

TheWeeDonkey · 16/03/2022 19:11

I've seen a couple of threads about this including some brilliant posters who have actually raised it as a complaint with Met Police.

It's a hideous violation and my heart goes out to the poor girl, I really hope justice gets served and she gets the support she needs to come to terms with the trauma of her assault.

Artichokeleaves · 16/03/2022 19:20

AIBU thread is cracking.

Not sure why one is needed here on this forum? Is this the right place for it?

HardyBuckette · 16/03/2022 20:00

Disgusting. Dirty racist rapist arseholes.

MountainWitch · 16/03/2022 20:04

Not everyone frequents AIBU (I really only use FWR on mumsnet these days)
Thanks for signposting to the other threads.

Slothtoes · 16/03/2022 21:05

I feel so angry for that poor girl.

lighterskies · 16/03/2022 21:18

It is absolutely shocking what happened.
There really are no excuses for any of it.

I haven't complained to the Met or my MP but I did write to the Home Sec. I'm not a Londoner so thought that was the best option

She’s sueing the Met, I saw on the news
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-60797237

I hope they can never do this again.

EmpressCixi · 19/03/2022 17:22

@HardyBuckette

Disgusting. Dirty racist rapist arseholes.
The MET police officers involved were women.
RoyalCorgi · 19/03/2022 17:23

I don't think anyone should be strip searched for something as trivial as possession of cannabis, which is barely illegal anyway. The thought of two police officers doing it to a 15-year old girl, and without any other adults present, is horrifying.

I don't know what the school were thinking of either.

Oh good

Its the school I’m also disgusted by

They are supposed to have a duty of care!

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 19/03/2022 17:42

Oh and cos they thought she smelt of cannabis

That means nothing! Idiots

Lampzade · 19/03/2022 17:45

I was actually horrified by this story.
I have a daughter of that age group, I would have been incandescent with rage

If you look at the site you will see the break down by age, sex and ethnicity.
