Please read the formal review.

Essentially the teaching staff called the police because a black 15 year old girl smelt of cannabis. She was taken to a room and strip searched. She was on her period. Her mother wasn't notified. She was not given the opportunity for an appropriate adult to be present.

you should have put what the TW is for in the post - I'll report so MN can add it

EvilEdna1 · 15/03/2022 18:27

My God Shock

and yes its horrendous - no argument here

SlashBeef · 15/03/2022 18:28

As a POC no I'm not that shocked, sadly.

FusionChefGeoff · 15/03/2022 18:28

I am absolutely horrified at how badly let down she was by so many adults. I can't believe NO ONE stepped in to reign everything back several stages.

Disgraceful

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 15/03/2022 18:29

Sadly doesn’t surprise me that this happened. Many Schools and police are institutionally racist.

Mummypigisalwaysright · 15/03/2022 18:31

Just read this - absolutely horrified. Absolutely horrified and sickened.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 15/03/2022 18:33

That is really shocking and very upsettingbto read. If this is how I feel just reading it, I can't even comprehend how the girl feels and get family.

I cannot believe they made her remove her sanitary towel. So humiliating and degrading.

Fucking horrible bastards.

All the more shocking the officers were female.

I hope the victim get the help and compensation she deserves to assist her in moving forward in her life.

Yet another reason that the public cannot trust the police.

Soubriquet · 15/03/2022 18:33

That is disgusting.

How dare the police do this. An apology is not enough

Popcornriver · 15/03/2022 18:34

Whatever apology comes from this will never be enough. Absolutely sickening.

LakieLady · 15/03/2022 18:35

Wtf is it with the Met? Why can't they just behave appropriately?

This is a shocking way to treat a child.

JimmyShoo · 15/03/2022 18:37

That poor girl, how humiliated she must have felt.

AnxiousHeffalump · 15/03/2022 18:37

That’s awful. I’ve worked in schools for over 20 years and I have never known something like that to happen.

Rodedooda · 15/03/2022 18:39

I knew from the title it would be this.

Utterly horrific. No way would they have done this to a nice middle class white girl.

And for cannabis?!

BlanketsBanned · 15/03/2022 18:40

All she got was an apology. The policewomen, teachers who stayed outside and the school nurse are a disgrace.

VladmirsPoutine · 15/03/2022 18:42

This is why quotas won't fix anything. As in more female police recruits. I'm not shocked this happened, being a black girl is extremely difficult.

AbsentmindedWoman · 15/03/2022 18:44

This is fucking horrendous - what the actual fuck?

This cannot be what the police are trained to do?? It doesn't make sense.

BlanketsBanned · 15/03/2022 18:44

have the POs been sacked yet

Tortabella · 15/03/2022 18:45

Poor child. Devastating. She deserves more than an apology.

Indoctro · 15/03/2022 18:52

That's disgusting the teacher and police officers need to be sacked. That poor child.

Fernsinthegarden · 15/03/2022 18:54

Completely horrified by this. She’s been failed at every turn by her school and has to get through exams and the rest of her life having gone through this. Poor kid, I hope she gets the justice she deserves here.

MrsPerfect12 · 15/03/2022 18:55

Utterly utterly vile. I'm shocked and saddened for the poor girl. I hope her parents are kicking up a storm and the teacher should be very very ashamed. Since when does a strip search ever happen based on a smell!!

Sceptre86 · 15/03/2022 18:57

I'm not surprised, I'm angry and feel sad for her. Still not surprised though, you see it in the press all the time with the language used, at 15 a white child will be called exactly that but asian or black kids are young adults and not treated with the same empathy.

I would raise hell if I were her mother. Poor girl.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/03/2022 18:59

It’s appalling. The met need to do more than apologise - they need to say what disciplinary action has been taken against the officers who authorised this.

The school need to explain how they’ve changed their systems, and who has been disciplined/sacked for not following procedure. she was a minor, Why weren’t her parents called in? why was she left alone with the police with no one to advocate for her??
