Britain's Equalities Watchdog Met Privately With Anti-Trans Groups

Ben Hunte and Steph Place have carried out an investigation into the EHRC. Steph's Place is now demanding:

. The immediate resignation of the Chair of the EHRC, Baroness Kishwar Falkner, and the entire Board of Commissioners

• The immediate resignation of the Ministers for Equality Liz Truss and Kemi Badenoch, who are directly responsible for the political appointment of the EHRC leadership

• The EHRC immediately cease all activities in relation to the Equalities Act 2010 and any associated guidance which may impact the rights of trans people in the UK

• Removal of the EHRC's 'A' status as a National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) as it is clearly unfit for purpose

• A full review of the EHRC's fitness to practice as a human rights organisation as a United Nations accredited National Human Rights Institution.

• All EHRC Board and Chair replacements should be selected based on a proven track record of defending and promoting human rights for all UK citizens and approved by the Women & Equalities Select Committee.

As far as I can tell the main findings of the investigation are that the EHRC had the temerity to meet with FPFW and LGB Alliance Shock

😂😂😂 They'll make an excellent partnership.

Datun · 02/02/2022 16:32

Dear lord.

It's extraordinary that they can't possibly have any idea what they sound like, otherwise they wouldn't write such unhinged guff.

Do they genuinely think this is going to be influencing anyone?

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

For the blocked, Steph's pinned tweet says

"I do not intend to "steal" a womans body, her place, her mind.
I LOVE women.
But I only have one life and I must live it as best I am able.
I am trans"

(grammar and spelling model's own)

Steph possibly likes compliant women.
allmywhat · 02/02/2022 16:55

Would it be correct to conclude from this that Hunte's career is in freefall?

Not sure what "Steph's Place" is but it seems like a long way down from the BBC.

ScreamingMeMe · 02/02/2022 17:03

@IvyTwines

I've just seen We Are Fair Cop tweet that Ben Hunte is advising Kent Police at their LGBT conference.
Bloody hell! I take it this wasn't a joke?

What activities in relation to the Equalities Act 2010 impact on the rights of trans people, would that be the bit about exceptions due to sex? Included for good reason to protect 51% of the population. We have to keep these spaces safe for women and girls & provide services specific to their needs, I can't believe that we are having to fight for this.

SamphiretheStickerist · 02/02/2022 17:55

All those replies...

Which trans bodies have you spoken to in the last 18 months?

Well the outgoing chair is ex Stonewall

And ALL of them, Mermaids etc, have been crowing about how they have had the ear of various regulatory bodies.

But 5 minutes for someone else to have a chat and the last 5+ years disappears in a flash.

At least Ben from the BBC (ex) speaks to Steph.

This is a classic narcissistic rage trantrum.

I've just seen We Are Fair Cop tweet that Ben Hunte is advising Kent Police at their LGBT conference.
I still recall (then) Aimée Challenor thanking an Assistant Chief Constable fon Twitter or the meeting at an LGBT Police event for which AC was the guest expert speaker.

How on earth did I miss cutted up pear ?Grin

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 02/02/2022 18:23

Women opposing the loss of women’s rights must be anti-trans, because:
A) the world revolves around trans people; no one could look at anything from any other point of view
and
B) women are so insignificant that no one, even women themselves, could genuinely care about their rights.

SolasAnla · 02/02/2022 18:31

So what PC had Ben highlighted and which were ignored, and the invented option

The EHRC was established in 2007 by the then Labour government to monitor human rights in England, Wales and Scotland, and to enforce equality laws based on protected characteristics,
such as
•sexuality, [< what? did you not read your own article?]
•gender reassignment,
•race and
•religion.

An EHRC spokesperson said: “We are an independent statutory body with a specific responsibility to ensure equality across the nine ‘protected’ characteristics of
• age,
• disability,
•gender reassignment,
• marriage and civil partnership,
• pregnancy and maternity,
• race,
• religion and belief,
•sex and
• sexual orientation.
Sometimes this means balancing rights, and we understand that this issue in particular evokes strong views.

When the author cant get the basics correct is there little hope for the rest of the article.

Datun · 02/02/2022 18:32

Bloody hell. The exceptions are written into the law.

All the EHRC is doing is upholding the actual law!!

Still, as I've always said, the biggest advert for upholding women's rights are transactivists.

@TinselAngel

Lol at "Steph's Place" being described as a "trans rights organisation" rather than just the rantings of a particularly bitter individual.
Was that the person who posted on twitter about 'we will be in your changing rooms, we will be in your gyms...'?

It always reminds me of Seinfeld when the Mr Costansa called Mr Seinfeld to threaten him that they were moving into the same retirement village (purely because they didn't want them to) 'we'll be in the swimming pool, we'll be in the sauna, we'll be in the breakfast room...'

Steph's place would like their pear both cutted up and whole and also demand to be taken seriously

Good for them addressing it directly. I'm so heartened to see govt bodies stand up and speak clearly.
Datun · 02/02/2022 19:17

Anyway, she asked me if I wanted the pear to be cut up or whole. I replied "cutted up" and the utter arse of a woman cut up my pear!

That's the day I fell in love with Mumsnet.

Anyway, they asked me if I wanted gender reassignment to be one part of the protected characteristics. I replied "yes please" and the utter arse of the EHRC made them one part of the protected characteristics.

I was speechless with rage! Obviously, words were not enough to express my fury so I threw my credibility across the Internet and shot myself in the foot.

Let me put it this way.

They are willing to put their names and reputation behind that guff.

Would they do that if they didn't believe what they were saying?

Well if your profession is supposed to be as a journalist and you keep saying its your opinion there is a raging tornado thats been going on outside for three years, but haven't actually bothered to go check if its even raining and present evidence of this wet stuff, these things do have a tendancy to catch up with you.

Eventually people will get fed up and go check for themselves rather than wait inside indefinitely.

Alekto · 02/02/2022 21:38

Would it be correct to conclude from this that Hunte's career is in freefall?

Indeed. Vice Media was in the Guardian yesterday for secretly organising festivals for the Saudi government.

"What attendees did not know was that the pricey music festivall^ was secretly organised by youth media company Vice, as part of the media company’s ongoing push to make money in the Middle Eastern state despite the country’s poor human rights record."

I’m sure if they think carefully, they can come up with a snappy word or phrase that combines Ben Hunte and Kent Police 🤔 Purely for promotional purposes, you understand.
