Do you believe in biology?

RVN123 · 22/12/2021 18:00

Just wondered if anyone actually believes in biology anymore?
Do you think we should lobby schools and universities to change their curriculums to include the new scientific facts?
E.g.
Men can become women
Women can become men
Genetics don't matter
Men can give birth
Men who give birth are not mothers
Sex is on a spectrum

etc.
Do you think we should be censored if we ever dare to speak about biology, even when we are not being derogatory towards anyone but just speaking biological truths?
Do biological truths even exist anymore?

To quote Homer Simpson, "'I'm the magical man, from happy land. I live in a gum drop house, on Lollipop Lane"...........

I'm being sarcastic.

I have asked a lot of people this in a very respectful and inclusive way over the last 5 years and have concluded almost no one believes you can change biological sex. However a lot of men this women are 'better with this sort of thing" and should accept both trans men and trans women as 'non men'.

Abhannmor · 22/12/2021 18:08

Perhaps we should petition schools to drop biology altogether. It makes no more sense than Astrology. This has been proved by experts like Owen Jones and Ellie Mae O Hagan

Grimchmas · 22/12/2021 18:11

Biology didn't give a shit if I believe in it or not. It just exists.

I don't believe we all have a magical fairy gender identity, though, if that helps.

NeedsCharging · 22/12/2021 18:15

We all do it from animals and insects to fish and plants. Biology rules.

Summerhillsquare · 22/12/2021 18:17

As I sit here suffering from perimenopausal symptoms, I can confidently say biology believes in me.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 22/12/2021 18:20

As Grimchas said. The earth always did go round the sun even when nobody believed that.

hanka · 22/12/2021 18:59

My thinking is that if in a few hundred years’ time the future archaeologists excavate my skeleton (and maybe manage a dna sample) - what would they say I was - a man or a woman? Without anything else buried with me? Also, in a catastrophic/apocalyptic scenario if the future of a mankind is at stake- will I be providing the egg or the sperm? (actually neither, as it is, but will provide a friendly albeit hot-flushed menopausal advice 😁) as summerhillsquare noted, biology is working on us, not us on biology 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/12/2021 19:51

I certainly do. No transwoman will ever have the privilege of my endometriosis and if they want to feel sorry for themselves over it that’s up to them.

EmpressCixi · 22/12/2021 19:55

It’s not a religion there are no beliefs or truths in the science of biology.
Writing using terms like belief, truth, faith, exist is halfway giving in to the zealots who believe science is only a system of beliefs akin to religion and thus can be adjusted to make society feel better about itself.

RVN123 · 22/12/2021 20:05

Just to be clear, I am being sarcastic.

I would like to know if MNHQ accept that biology is real and can therefore not be offensive, given that several discussions have been shut down today before they were barely started.

I would like to know what we can and cannot discuss.
I would like to know if stating facts found in any textbook is enough to have posts deleted.
I would like to know why we should accept the new religion without question, and when it IS questioned, why on a woman's forum in the SEX AND GENDER board, why these things cannot be debated.

It seems that biology does in fact have beliefs and opinions, and that we can opt in and out of them at will.

Angry does not even begin to cut it.
Put up and shut up wumben, wimpunds and woomuds!

Biology is a science, not a faith. It requires no belief. As a science, it develops as research is undertaken and new discoveries are made, so it does change over time as we learn more. Facts, not faith.

HaroldMeeker · 22/12/2021 20:18

Ps OP, you're right. It's ludicrous that stating facts can get us deleted or banned. Almost like "truth hurts".

Cuck00soup · 22/12/2021 20:21

I am I the only one that is slightly concerned that this could happen?

RobotValkyrie · 22/12/2021 21:24

The whole thing reminds me of the whole creationist madness, which my younger self stumbled on about 20 years ago, upon first contact with the Internet. Nobody cares much about these wackos anymore. But I believe they are one of the reasons Richard Dawkins became his own slightly extremist self. Hard to keep your cool when facing fanatics who are hell-bent on rewriting the curriculum.

I don't "believe" in biology any more than I "believe" in evolution. Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away (thanks, Philip K. Dick). Biology doesn't need my belief to do it's thing. Nature doesn't give a toss whether you identify as male or female. Sperm inseminates, wombs gestate, doesn't matter which words you write in pink, and which ones you write in blue. Gender is such superficial bollocks. All form and no substance.

Mouseonmychair · 22/12/2021 22:23

I believe in biology as do most people. It why men's sport is better attended because they can jump further and run faster and why a league 2 male football team can get a bigger attendance than the national football teams because more people are interested in it. They want to see the pinnacle of human achievement which unfortunately isn't going to involve women's sports and it perhaps should be why they are paid better as sports people because generally in a strength based sport they have a biological advantage. Perhaps it should also apply to pay in manual trades where strength is an advantage too.

Unless you mean not believing in that part of biology.

Mouseonmychair · 22/12/2021 22:25
  • National women's football teams

Again I don't think I have said anything factually incorrect here as Stated it is all biology.

PrincessNutella · 22/12/2021 22:25

No, I don't believe in biology. I also don't believe in math. I don't believe in the sun or the moon or the earth. But there they are. If two males have sex, the chances that they will have a baby are zero throughout human history. You could use different words to try to describe this phenomenon but it won't change anything. Or you could choose not to believe it, but you'd be wasting sperm.

nannybeach · 22/12/2021 22:27

Testosterone by Carol Hooven is a very interesting read.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/12/2021 22:28

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away (thanks, Philip K. Dick).

Excellent quote.

Cailleach1 · 22/12/2021 22:42

I think those that try to con everyone that biology is not a scientific fact should live by their professed beliefs. Isn't it hypocritical to be taking places in the queues of those who wish to seek medical healthcare.

Take a picture of a unicorn or something and call into Mermaids to carry it out according to their slogans. Equally, why are they exclusively seeking out women to use in surrogacy. Believe your slogans and approach one of the talking heads who state they have transformed themselves from a man into a woman. They can't even pretend in real life to act as if they believe their own professed beliefs.

LilithRises · 22/12/2021 22:57

Biology exists - an objective reality - doesn't need me to believe it or not
Gender ideology - subjective ideas and feelings - not objectively real

Franca123 · 22/12/2021 23:05

Whether the MNHQ censors find it offensive or not, I'm going to get accidentally pregnant if I don't use a condom. My partner won't. The censors are ridiculous in their prudishness. My post got removed because I said I didn't have spunk just cus I dressed up as a man at Halloween. Maybe I should have said ejaculate? Biology really upsets mumsnet.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 22/12/2021 23:18

I closed the thread as thought oh, going to go to the same way as usual. Then saw this on my way out! I obviously can't speak for Owen Jones as I'm not him. Why though, can someone know about biology but not accept people who are trans too? You go straight into let's scrap biology, people obviously don't know about it! Er, yes they do. Doesn't mean they can't support and accept people who are trans too.
ScrollingLeaves · 23/12/2021 00:07

“Cuck00soup

I think it could happen but by bit. So many people believe in the ‘spectrum’ myth about sex, and look at the Welsh education policy being discussed on another thread that removes discussion of the sexes. It is to begin at age 3 and be compulsory.

JaneJeffer · 23/12/2021 00:11

If I say yes will I be deleted?
