Sorry I can't do share tokens on my phone- can anyone oblige?

"Kenny MacAskill said he was blindsided by prison reforms that allowed trans prisoners to move to women’s jails while he was justice secretary."

"The former SNP MP who defected to Alex Salmond’s Alba Party has confirmed that he was not consulted on changes to gender rules while running the justice department"

It emerged last month that 12 trans prisoners convicted of violence or sexual crimes have been accommodated in Scottish women’s jails in the past 18 months.

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) admitted it did not consult widely enough ahead of the publication of the reform guidance in March 2014.

MacAskill said that prison bosses may not have seen the need to inform his office on an “operational matter” which “was viewed as benign” at..."

Rats departing the ship as she founders.

Get ready for 'I knowed nuffink' - R Hunt, 'It wasn't me' - D Butler and 'a big boy from another school did it and then he ran away' -Jolyon Kimono-Beater.

The Golden Bridge'll be busy.

BettyFilous · 06/12/2021 20:12

The Golden Bridge'll be busy.

Here’s hoping it is properly buttressed so we don’t have a rerun of the wobbly Millennium Bridge when the stampede starts.

RepentMotherfucker · 06/12/2021 20:13

I was just thinking that!

Jolyon can get in the fucking river though.

'MacAskill said: “In Scotland, the number of transgender inmates who have undergone surgery is small. It’s a small section of the population and they are far more likely to be the victims than the perpetrators of crime.'

Is the second sentence true? How would anyone know, given that police and the MoJ record people by 'self identified' gender? Crime stats will show transwomen as women. Not transwomen. Or am I missing something - like evidence, data, anywhere?

STILLTish article, Spetember 2019:

'Ministry of Justice: Updated Policy on caring for Transgender Prisoners.'

(extract)
"The policy exposes how far the, legally protected, characteristic of sex has been eroded, by allowing anyone, regardless of biology, to declare they are a woman. The prison system is illustrative of just how far Gender Identity ideology is embedded within our legislature and enshrined in public policy.

Below is a quote 👇 from James Morton, of the Scottish Trans Alliance, which shows that Female prisoners are the subjects of a dangerous laboratory experiment. James is listed as an author of the Scottish Prisons Policy which deals with Transgender Prisoners. As James is a lobbyist for Trans Rights there is only one group at the forefront of the policy. Spoiler. Its not Women.

‘We strategized – we strategized – that by working intensively with the Scottish Prison Service to support them to include trans women as women on a self-declaration basis within very challenging circumstances, we would be able to ensure that all other public services should be able to do likewise’.

The above quote is illustrative of a complete disregard for the female prison population; one of the most vulnerable groups in our society. Domestic violence refuges, rape crisis centres and female prisons do seem to figure prominently in the targeted locations. Captive females are being targeted for this new branch of Men’s rights activism." (continues)

"Only one of the 12 prisoners transferred to women’s jails in Scotland had completed transition and the other 11 were self-identifying as female."
What the hell does "completed transition" actually mean? Is this code for 11 blokes with penises & one without?

The women have rights "even in prison" bothered me too - even?! FFS

Urgh I'm so bloody angry again this week (does everyone find it comes in waves?)

Yes, definitely!

SuperSleepyBaby · 07/12/2021 01:56

There seems to be a feeling that men who have undergone surgery or have a GRC should be in women’s prisons - but why should they be?

SageHoney · 07/12/2021 02:31

Writing in The Scotsman, MacAskill said: “In Scotland, the number of transgender inmates who have undergone surgery is small. It’s a small section of the population and they are far more likely to be the victims than the perpetrators of crime.

Erm ... if "transgender inmates who have undergone surgery" are not "perpetrators of crime", then why are they in prison in the first place?

To be fair to MacAskill, though, he's been pretty outspoken about misogyny disguised as "trans rights" since he left the SNP. Since we're not really seeing a lot of that among MPs from most parties, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on covering his arse/bandwagon-jumping for now.

Here's the column from The Scotsman referenced in the Times article: www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/transgender-debate-in-scotland-why-prisons-should-be-single-sex-kenny-macaskill-msp-3478184

LobsterNapkin · 07/12/2021 02:53

I can believe that people pushing this kind of thing would take care to try and keep changes out of the eye of anyone who might ask questions. That's been the MO in the past.

Fallingirl · 07/12/2021 03:43

I found this expression interesting: “… In reality, it is men identifying as women…”.

It is in one sense encouraging that a politician can now be this straight talking, speaking the truth in a manner so blunt it would have seen him deleted from FWR. At the same time, it really highlights how circumscribed our language is here. As the tide keeps turning in the ‘outside world, FWR looks more and more quaint.

"The former SNP MP who defected to Alex Salmond’s Alba Party has confirmed that he was not consulted on changes to gender rules while running the justice department" Loopholes are the friend of TRA's and Governments/legislation has them in spades. My admiration goes out to TRA's, SW et al for their dogged determination to find these loopholes and work by stealth to erode our rights. We have been well and truly blindsided. How much more is going on under the radar, or are we, thankfully, in the period of revelation.

The weak spot is found and then dogged determination to pursue Transwomen in prisons and probably telling the Prison Service that they needn't tell anyone because it really wasn't important wtf
