Another doctor threatening “transphobes”

Following the Harrop tribunal, I can’t quite believe another doctor on social media is threatening members of the public under the claim they are “transphobes”.

She was so pleased with her comment (insinuating a “transphobe” should get into a bath with a toaster - killing themselves) that she screenshotted it from one social media platform, reposted it on another and added the comment “get it” to make sure people got her ‘clever’ insinuation.

Surprising that an intelligent woman, in a new career with strict standards of behaviour, can be so thoughtless and post this on SM, especially after AH's tribunal. Still, Suzi Ruffell liked it 🙄

@DialSquare

I would have responded that I only identify as a toaster on non bath days. A bit like Pip Bunce.
😆
FOJN · 04/12/2021 08:48

Nobody could possibly take this off colour joke to mean that she is going to come round and electrocute the person who made the toaster joke.

No I don't think anyone thinks that. The issue is that she has identified herself as a doctor on her social media profile and therefore off colour jokes about electrocution are inappropriate as is making your feelings on a political issue known. Patients should never know your political views.

She would be free to be as inappropriate as she likes if she didn't have doctor in her profile, she would then have to hope that no one who was treated by her in real life was aware of her account.

@Mummyoflittledragon

Agreed op. She is very young.
She claims to work on A&E if this is true she is not very young.

She grew up with SM and will have received warnings about it's usage, both in her school and while training to be a professional HCP.

This idea that HCP get a free pass from professional standards when it comes to SM needs to stop.

There is an account claiming to be a HCP going round on Twitter claiming that a male HCP would provide intimate care to a woman who asked for a female. That would be sexual assault as informed consent is about the patient's boundaries.

Being abusive on SM for likes to further a political aim is not where HCP should be positioning themselves.

SwumMum · 04/12/2021 08:54

She's not that young as she'd shared her ID badge showing she's a registrar. That's years of education and work. Certainly enough years to be able to understand others don't feel the same as her and that's ok.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 04/12/2021 08:56

@Whatwouldscullydo

Ffs.

Shes a dr . Thefore she will treat the nicest people you will ever meet along side rapists, murderes, pervs etc whoever walks or gets walked by the authorities thru the hospital doors.

Her job is to treat. With dignity respect and to the best of her ability. Regardless of personal views and opinions .

The police/legal system us there to prosecute and implosion and make thise judgments. Not hers.

Amd she certainly shouldn't be using her twitter or Instagram account to sir personal opinions about the peope she may or may not see.

Shes a dr she doesn't get to decide who should electrocute themselves in the bath because she disagrees with them

This. It's one of the big 'things' about being a doctor, isn't it?

She has a lot of followers on Instagram and I think that can make you lose your head a bit.

DryHeave · 04/12/2021 09:03

@Chickenyhead

120k followers isn't to be sniffed at.
Plus 700k on TikTok which is her main platform (and where she originally responded to the comments, before screenshotting them to share on her Instagram so proudly).

Mmm, I’m not usually that bothered about comedians being stupid. And I know frontline medics and emergency workers often let off steam among themselves with humour they wouldn’t use in public.

But I’m disturbed by a doctor on social media wishing for people to kill themselves.

ScreamingMeMe · 04/12/2021 10:54

The best, and mature thing to do when somebody makes a 'joke' like that is to ignore it. Not respond with something much worse.

ChattyLion · 04/12/2021 11:05

Wow. This is appalling. Everyone needs medical care and has a right to absolute trust that medics caring for them are doing so impartially.

If a doctor dislikes (a category of society) and if that doctor can’t put that feeling aside in practice which is role of the doctor to do, as is made clear to them from the start of training then it can have extremely serious consequences.

Not just for their own patients, obviously, but also for our trust in the medical profession as a whole which can have extremely serious consequences for the health of the public. Patients will avoid seeking care if they think they will face judgement and abuse from doctors. When they can’t avoid seeking care any more it will be incredibly stressful for them at an already very difficult time. That’s an appalling situation to put patients in.

You can’t be a doctor, and imply wishing death to other people.
Doctors have specific professional guidance they must adhere to on social media. This is the doctors’ regulatory body’s guidance:

LizzieSiddal · 04/12/2021 11:30

Another one to watch Hmm. I expect she’ll lap up the comments and go out of her way to make more “transphobe” jokes.

Yup.
AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 04/12/2021 11:56

She may be a doctor but she only identifies as being funny.

KimikosNightmare · 04/12/2021 12:03

Agreed op. She is very young

No she isn't.

Eyesofdisarray · 04/12/2021 12:09

Wonder if she's read the Harrop verdict???
Maybe she'd do well to take heed 🤔 ??

dustandfluf · 04/12/2021 12:11

Ah Maddy Dann. The most annoying unfunny 'tiktok comedian'. I've blocked her on all platforms because she's just so nauseating. I think she thinks this kind of thing makes her cool and well liked. Working in healthcare myself I can well imagine, in the real world, she isn't.

ChattyLion · 04/12/2021 12:12

It’s already not OK by the basic standards even student doctors should adhere to. Actual and trainee Drs shouldn’t bring their profession into disrepute.

ScreamingMeMe · 04/12/2021 12:26

@KimikosNightmare

Agreed op. She is very young

No she isn't.

She just acts it.
FrancescaContini · 04/12/2021 12:28

Is she REALLY a doctor?? She seems so thick.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/12/2021 12:32

Has anyone challenged her?
'Sorry, no, I don't get it - I mean obviously the 'joke' can't be that you think this person should electrocute themselves?'

SoniaFouler · 04/12/2021 12:58

Funny how it’s only one side that are losing jobs, getting doxxed, hounded by police, run off social media etc and it’s funny how that side is the one that says “I can’t get worked up over this” and “it’s clearly just a joke” and defending these people. These types would see you and your entire family left jobless, homeless and penniless for a similar tweet and go to bed with a smile knowing they got you for it but still, #bekind.

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/12/2021 13:09

She seems to be self-identifying as a medical Miranda Hart: "I'm six foot one!" Only less funny.

Needs to grow up. Perhaps someone could draw her attention to the SM Guidance.

Some of these threads/comments sail really close to the wind of defamation.

OldCrone · 04/12/2021 13:30

@KimikosNightmare

Agreed op. She is very young

No she isn't.

She qualified in 2016, which would make her about 30. That's not 'very young'.
