Gross acts of urine vandalism in Edinburgh

If you're on Twitter, take a look at GC Archives @archives_gc. She cites countless examples of men committing crimes in women's and public spaces.

It's hideous stuff and I couldn't watch the videos, but reading the text demonstrates what is going on. She's identified one of the perpetrators in Edinburgh and reported them to the polic

@Livelifeinthebuslane

I had an ex who used to piss in my sink instead of my toilet when they were right next to each other. He was abusive in many other worse ways too. I look back now and wonder how the hell I put up with it for as long as I did, it's just so bizarre though.
Apparently it's quite a common phenomenon. I recall reading something a while back that it's common for men to urinate around a garden when they're visiting a friend - it's very scent-marking someone else's territory in an attempt to assert dominance.

I wonder if there's anything in Will Storr's Status Game book about it?

DaisyNGO · 29/11/2021 15:50

I wish I hadn't seen this

I vaguely recall my dad being upset at this sort of thing in his work loos but I was a teen and walked in on a chat he was having with mum

when I asked him what was happening, he said I didn't need to know.

the world feels very animal at the mo. I normally go to the gym about 5 or 6 ish but I increasingly find I am alarmed by the behaviour I see walking home at 7. 7, fgs, a time when I was probably just finishing work.

in terms of police doing something, I would have thought that with hygiene allegedly at the front of minds at the moment, there would be really harsh punishments for this.

Smokeahontas · 29/11/2021 15:52

There was a similar case in NI of a man pissing into a soap dispenser at a location used for PCR testing.

Lovelyricepudding · 29/11/2021 17:15

Dirty protests are apparently a common thing in prisons...

TheWeeDonkey · 29/11/2021 18:35

Jesus Christ, WTF is wrong with people?

Gross bastards

doublemonkey · 29/11/2021 19:30

@ArabellaScott

Has someone reported to police?
Yes, has it been reported?

They could find this guy quite easily.

Histoothbrush · 29/11/2021 20:16

I've namechanged for this.

I worked housekeeping in a small family run hotel, and can say that the male guests were disgusting. My final straw was being left to clean a shower cubicle that had shit smeared all over it. The awfully nice chap was staying another night so go on, have a guess what I used to scrub the grout?

I then resigned with immediate effect. Minimum wage to clean up an adults shite?

ScholesPanda · 29/11/2021 20:54

Disgusting is not strong enough a word.
I have been a Union rep in a big organisation and have seen various people (male and female) sacked over the years for shitting all over the place, usually during times of workplace change like redundancies or office closure. More common than anyone would want to imagine.
This is different though, clearly a sexual fetish, so probably almost entirely male activity.
Hope he is caught and punished!

PaterPower · 30/11/2021 08:33

“With all due respect to Jeffries I think people only spread faeces on a lavatory wall when the paper runs out. Sociopaths excepted.”

As ScholesPanda says above, “dirty protests” do occur in the workplace. We had one at a previous employer (rounds of redundancies going on). The filthy so-and-so would shit on the floor, or in the sink. It went on for months.

I presume he didn’t think it through and realise that he was only really affecting his immediate colleagues and the poor cleaning staff - none of whom had anything to do with the situation he was “protesting” about.

I’ve never had a friend (or anyone else) piss in my garden to mark their territory though! I’ve heard that peeing in the shower is a thing, but I’m guessing that’s mostly laziness.

Eyesofdisarray · 30/11/2021 08:41

Disgusting, disgusting, disgusting
Made me feel sick. And angry. These people have something missing in their make-up. As for people encouraging him! Madness.
As he left his reflection, he should be caught. And shamed. Put him in the stocks in the middle of town 🤬
Strangely, I thought this would be an older man. Don't know why

WarriorN · 30/11/2021 10:36

Wtf. 🤢

BeMoreGoldfish · 30/11/2021 13:31

It’s common for men to urinate around a garden when visiting friends to mark their territory????? What utter utter bullshit! Why make up crap when the issue at hand is serious in itself?!

@/archives_gc Twitter account has been suspended.

If you had not seen what was posted, would you have believed it?

Given what you saw, why on earth do you find it beyond belief that men would not urinate outside each other's houses?

Or perhaps you DO believe it but have some explanation other than that they are "marking their territory"?

BTW the best way to deal with this is to direct them to piss on the compost heap.

Top Tip from Radio 4 "Gardener's Question Time" in case you think I am making that up.

(Your reaction reminds of the typical reaction to, "Do you know, they are putting rapists in prison with women!?" - Just because something sounds insane it does not mean it isn't true.)

You have led a sheltered life. I personally know two men who do this, and one of them is my brother.

I don't believe this is commonly done.
Bosky · 06/12/2021 10:59

KimokosNightmare - "I don't believe this is commonly done."

Are you sure that that should not read, "I don't WANT to believe this is commonly done"?

It is obvious that this could only be "commonly done" when there is access to a garden, or other place outdoors close by, to piss.

Those with both a garden and a compost heap are the lucky ones!

Better a garden with a compost heap than encountering the stench of urine where men have taken the trouble to go outside and piss up against a wall or down a drain rather than stay indoors and use the toilet.

Re: pissing in other people's garden, I do distinctly remember, as a child, some older male relatives jokingly discussing with each others their respective "pissing in the back garden" habits, and hilarious incidents involving being accidentally seen by a flustered female neighbour.

They were quite open and unashamed about the fact that the habit was a way of marking their territories (I guess it made them feel all male and untamed). And in case you're wondering, these were respectable, upper middle class professionals.

I still don't believe this is commonly done.
Sundaydance · 06/12/2021 18:39

@KimikosNightmare
Two of my male relatives have done this more than once, while visiting my garden.
Why do you doubt that this is common?

Very similar experience to me as a child! Although the men concerned were generally rather disreputable, lower to middle class, Del Boy-type "Business Men".

Interesting replies from men here:

"Do men really go around outside their house and pee randomly?"
www.reddit.com/r/AskMen/comments/360p9c/do_men_really_go_around_outside_their_house_and/

The question is not quite the same as the one being asked in this thread but there are a significant number of replies saying how much they enjoy peeing outside or "off their deck" (sometimes several floors up!).

Most say they only do it if "taken short".

They generally dispute that it is "random" or "marking territory".

flygirl1983 · 06/12/2021 18:55

I think I'd rather the random male guest piss I my yard than in (near) my toilet. Less to clean. I remember my mom having male and female coworkers over once and discovering my bathroom (the guest bathroom) mat being quite damp afterwards. My mom explained that some men can't see past their bellies to aim. I mean, in that case, just sit down!

flygirl1983 · 06/12/2021 19:13

I also recently bought a black light, telling my partner it was to seek out pet stains on the rug. We do have an old dog, and it partly was for that reason. But I also used it to point out the urine splashback stains on the walls near the toilet.

mathanxiety · 06/12/2021 19:38

@Soubriquet -
It's men, not 'people' who have something wrong with them.

UkuleleRose · 06/12/2021 19:55

There was a thread a while back in which the woman had a man continually come into her office and defecate in the single bathroom. When his child stopped coming, he continued to come in and foul her bathroom. And numerous threads about workmen using a woman's home bathroom and leaving urine and feces everywhere. It's beyond disgusting and sexist.

SunflowersInTheShade · 06/12/2021 22:38

Doubt the police will be able to do anything. Let's face it, it's not as though these men are tweeting about it are they?
