Apologies if this has already been shared - wanted to post the link to this statement in case any academics/students/alumni would like to add their support:

So it looks like if you're graduated from a university at some point, even if it's not Sussex Uni, and you're not an academic, you can sign this? Is that right. (Sorry if I'm a bit thick.) Cos if the anwer is yes, I'm signing in a hearbeat.

VillKrill · 13/10/2021 11:05

@ComprehensiveTea that's right - according to the letter, it's from "academics, retired academics, students, alumni and university/college employees"

I've signed it.

PS anyone know why the AIBU thread "Support Kathleen Stock", which was encouraging people to buy her Material Girls book, has been taken down?

sashh · 13/10/2021 11:35

Signed and passed to a couple of 'safe' people on twitter via DM.

Onyernelly · 13/10/2021 11:46

I was heartened to see a couple of academics from my very woke uni had signed.

Onyernelly · 13/10/2021 11:47

Also sent a thank you card to her uni.

Signed as am alumna.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 13/10/2021 11:51

Signed. Thanks for the link.

Cailin66 · 13/10/2021 11:55

Signed, and will get others to sign. Also sent Stock an email of support last week and she kindly replied.

[email protected].

I gave my full name etc. Because I'm sure she gets hate mail.

MenaiMna · 13/10/2021 12:18

Signed with a long list of unis as student and employee. UCU really are pretty shit and now they've really reached for the gutter on this one!

VillKrill · 13/10/2021 12:51

Wow, thanks everyone. I was also heartened to see the names of a couple of colleagues on there. I hesitated about putting my name "out there" at first but after years of being nervous about voicing my GC views at work for fear of threats/discipline etc I've decided fuck it, I'm going to nail my colours to the mast and stop letting MRAs and their abuse frighten me into silence. Enough is enough.

Thank you for sharing this. I still feel that my job is at risk if I come out as GC. Is anyone else feeling this still?

SirSamuelVimes · 13/10/2021 12:57

Happily I've changed jobs recently and now feel able to put my name. When I was a teacher I didn't though.

ChloeCrocodile · 13/10/2021 13:01

Me. I'm a teacher and I don't believe my union would support me if I were sacked for having GC views.

VillKrill · 13/10/2021 13:02

@TonyThreePies absolutely - and I don't judge any woman who feels unable to speak out. I'm in the fortunate position of my academic job not being my only source of income so I feel that a) it's a risk I can justify taking and b) it's incumbent on those of us who are in a similarly fortunate position to speak out. But yes, the fear is still very real and I know many other GC feminists who feel the same.
