(NC for obvious reasons)

To whoever decorated the bench near the court with suffragette colours and a GC leaflet - you brought a huge smile to my face - thank you. Solidarity, sister dinosaur 💪🦖

Smile I have yet to see a ribbon in the wild.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2021 13:54

I've seen some further north.Smile

OnlyBejoking · 08/10/2021 14:09

I've seen some ribbons in the wild in a park and by a famous river near me. It makes me smile whenever I walk by.

oneglassandpuzzled · 08/10/2021 14:15

Was that dinosaur hoarding its rights under the bench?

FlibbertyGiblets · 08/10/2021 14:26

Thumbs up to that dinosaur.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 08/10/2021 15:06

It wasn't me. But it did make me smile 🤣

Rhannion · 09/10/2021 12:57

Lots of ribbons in the wild north. Wee statues of dogs with lovely coats in 💚🤍💜 colours too. We also have slates which are beautifully written and decorated.

Rhannion · 09/10/2021 12:59

It’s always cheering to see.

PutYourBackIntoit · 09/10/2021 13:18

Oooh I'll have to go take a look for it on my lunchbreak.

FlowerTwaw21 · 09/10/2021 18:47

I do enjoy the appropriation of a dinosaur for gender critical activists, it's quite fitting in representing those with prehistoric views

MonsignorMirth · 09/10/2021 18:50

Yes, because misogyny is famously only a recent fad. Hmm

My views date back 200 million years, to the evolution of mammals. Not one of them has ever changed sex.
FlowerTwaw21 · 09/10/2021 18:54

There are lots of animals that change sex, and plenty of mammals that change gender too. Obviously it's fiction, but famously even the dinosaurs change gender in Jurassic Park Wink

Waitwhat23 · 09/10/2021 18:58

You are (unsurprisingly) conflating sex with gender.

Human beings cannot change sex. In human beings, sex is immutable. There may be some other species which can change sex but humans can't.

We've seen some TRA posters claim that they have literally changed sex. This is utter nonsense.

You have your belief. It is not based in reality.

yourhairiswinterfire · 09/10/2021 19:00

Ooh, how does a dinosaur change 'gender'? I haven't watched the films. Did they slap some lippy on? Strut around in flannel shirts?

Yeah I'm always really convinced when people's main evidence in a response is the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park. What next, clownfish?

I hate to have spell this out, but just because animals can do something doesn't mean humans can. Some animals can fly; doesn't mean humans can. So entirely spurious argument I'm afraid.

Greencoatblue · 09/10/2021 19:01

Notice how you had to have mammals changing gender because no mammal ever has changed sex. Glad you understand that. How do you know which animals to milk, keep for laying eggs etc. Such a conundrum.

FlowerTwaw21 · 09/10/2021 19:08

Nope very aware of the difference between sex and gender (I have a biology degree). The reality is, is that if people feel they are a different gender they should have the right to live how they please. I don't disagree that sex is a biological phenomenon, I do disagree that gender is biological.

Gender is a social construct and people should have the rights to live according to what fits best for them, be it as the gender assigned at birth, a different gender, or no gender at all if that suits. That's not misogyny, that's just being a decent human being.

Like I said, if you believe otherwise you have rather prehistoric views, so by all means, please do continue to use dinosaur iconography- it does give me a chuckle.

There are in fact a tiny number of animals that change sex: a few dozen fish species, some slugs and frogs,, oh and coral. This is out of - at the least - 3 million species on Earth (some biologists would say there are many more).

No mammals change sex.

Helleofabore · 09/10/2021 19:12

Humans are not clownfish.

But if you think humans are anything like the animals and plants that can adaptively change sex, then you were obviously educated back in prehistoric times.

And please tell us what mammals have genders.

exLtEveDallas · 09/10/2021 19:14

If gender is a social construct, how can it be assigned at birth? I mean people ‘assume your gender’ based on your stereotypes don’t they? and babies are just babies (mine don’t come out wearing heels, although her elbows were sharp enough to make me wince Grin)

Helleofabore · 09/10/2021 19:15

People are free to live the gender they want until it impacts on other’s rights and needs. Then people’s gender should never have the priority above sex.

Why should it? Why should someone’s need to have their gender recognised cause any harm to others?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 09/10/2021 19:22

The reality is, is that if people feel they are a different gender they should have the right to live how they please.

Great. My gender is norapistsinwomensprisonsgender apart from Tuesdays when I'm nomalesinwomensrefugesgender.

Glad to hear I, and other people with the same gender, have the right to live how we please. How will you help us access these rights?

Blessex · 09/10/2021 19:24

@FlowerTwaw21 the point is that it’s fine for people to change gender - as long as that doesn’t affect the safety of another marginalised group (women). We should have a world where we can protect trans people without that creating a loophole which can lead to safety issues for women. If we are allowed to have an adult debate about it I am sure we will find solutions that work for all. Thing is we aren’t even allowed to debate it without being shouted at and cancelled.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 09/10/2021 19:31

The dinosaurs? The? It was the specific dinosaur species into which Wu's team had spliced Rana (frog) DNA. The novel was very clear on this point.

Have you been genetically engineered using frog DNA?
