The Scottish Parliament Citizen Participation and Public Petitions Committee is discussing the petition we lodged with them in June this year about recording the sex (not the gender identity) of rapists and alleged rapists.

The meeting (starts 11.15am) on Wednesday 6th will be livestreamed on Scottish Parliament TV.

Thank you to everyone who signed the petition.

Kath, Lucy and Lisa

Thanks kath Lisa and Lucy for all the work you do on this for us women and girls in Scotland

littlbrowndog · 04/10/2021 14:10

Will try and watch

2319inprogress · 04/10/2021 14:49

Thank you for all your work

That's a cracking thread although I am sadly less "surprised" by ScotGov's behaviour!

Gncq · 04/10/2021 21:27

Well done on the petition, hope they start to see sense.

FlibbertyGiblets · 04/10/2021 21:41

Thank you.

Yepnothatfeeling · 05/10/2021 08:14

Thanks for the heads-up, and for all that you have done for women and girls.

highame · 05/10/2021 08:25

The publicity will hopefully be brilliant

1Endeavour2 · 05/10/2021 08:32

Anything the rest of us can do?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/10/2021 19:18

Just wanted to give this a bump.

All of the submissions to the committee can be seen here: www.parliament.scot/get-involved/petitions/view-petitions/pe1876-accurately-record-the-sex-of-people-charged-or-convicted-of-rape-or-attempted-rape

Given these submissions I can't see how the committee could justify refusing the petition, but I suspect they will. If they admit that sex matters more than gender in one thing, then that refutes the idea that gender is the important thing.

Acatcalledprince · 05/10/2021 20:17

Thank you for your work. It's such a reasonable ask, how have we come to this? I remain baffled Confused

Helleofabore · 05/10/2021 20:24

Thank you for all your efforts!!!

PaleBlueMoonlight · 05/10/2021 20:35

Thank you - will try and listen to this.

Selkiesarereal · 05/10/2021 20:40

Thank you, I really hope that common sense prevails.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 06/10/2021 08:58

Just bumping this for anyone who can listen later this morning.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 06/10/2021 11:26

So the Committee is going to take this further and seek submissions from relevant parties, eg police and courts. When they have those submissions they will look at it again.

littlbrowndog · 06/10/2021 11:26

Petition to be left open

Eucalyptustrees · 06/10/2021 11:27

Another manel!

How annoying.

ComprehensiveTea · 06/10/2021 11:40

Is there (or will there be) a written transcript of this somewhere?

Lovelyricepudding · 06/10/2021 12:25

Submissions? Police? Stonewall? Edinburgh Rape Crisis? Engender?

The only conclusion I can see front that is those horrible rape victims need to be prosecuted for hate crime for their bigotry towards their poor rapists.

ArabellaScott · 06/10/2021 12:26

There's usually a recording, Tea, not sure about transcript. Thanks for the link, Moonlight.

ArabellaScott · 06/10/2021 12:28

FFS, seven men in suits discuss this.

ArabellaScott · 06/10/2021 12:30

'stakeholders' - do they mean rape victims?

Lovelyricepudding · 06/10/2021 12:56

@ArabellaScott

'stakeholders' - do they mean rape victims?
Of course not. They are irrelevant.
Beefcurtains79 · 06/10/2021 13:17
