The Scottish Parliament Citizen Participation and Public Petitions Committee is discussing the petition we lodged with them in June this year about recording the sex (not the gender identity) of rapists and alleged rapists.

The meeting (starts 11.15am) on Wednesday 6th will be livestreamed on Scottish Parliament TV.

Thank you to everyone who signed the petition.

Kath, Lucy and Lisa

@ArabellaScott

FFS, seven men in suits discuss this.
Tell me you are being economical with the truth please
ArabellaScott · 06/10/2021 13:21

midge, apologies. To be more accurate: One of the men is actually in shirtsleeves.

ArabellaScott · 06/10/2021 13:25
  • and rewatching, I think that the man in shirtsleeves is not actually involved in discussions, perhaps he is a technician.

So, to be completely accurate, as far as I can tell:

Six men in suits discuss this.

All the members of that committee are men. All the substitute members are women.

MBM Policy have put on their Web site
"We are pleased at the Committee’s decision to continue to work on the petition and gather further evidence. The petition raises substantive questions about the accuracy and reliability of criminal justice statistics, particularly in relation to serious sexual offending. It also raises serious questions about policymaking in Scotland, and how significant changes to recording practices came about without democratic scrutiny and oversight. We hope that the Committee will continue to give this issue the attention it merits."

Forwomenscot have tweeted about it too. It sounds like a good sign.

ArabellaScott · 06/10/2021 13:48

Good to hear. Thanks again, MBM, for all that you do.

This sounds hopeful in so much as they don't feel they can just dismiss it.

Surely using a penis for penetrative sex (consensual or otherwise) precludes you from claiming to be a woman, in the same way that eating raw meat precludes one from claiming to be a vegan?

Confused

Very true, 23, sorry, I'll do better.

Six persons presenting as stereotypically male wearing suits.

littlbrowndog · 06/10/2021 20:52

How did we get to a place where we have to have a petition a parliament to ask the police to record rape and sexual assaults as being men and not as some mystical being

It’s totally mad

Trying not to get sucked into the "there is no stereotypical male if some of them give birth" vortex Grin

There was a brilliant post on Twitter of photos of 3 blokes prostate havers asking how we were to tell that the first (Gregor Murray) was non-binary, another a TW & the last a man...

I believe the other two were the lovely Daniel(le) Moscato who claims womanhood and the third was David Paisley, a Scottish actor aka Graham Linehan's 'man at bus stop'. All three prostate havers look similar with the baldness associated with half the population, & beards etc (not to mention a certain smugness) yet we are supposed to be able to tell who is a 'she', who is a 'they' and who is a 'him' with 100% accuracy.

That's the one! Thank you for the names that had escaped me. It is an excellent visual (far far less effective when described by me Grin)
