So the Labour Party don't understand biology, and the tories have a fringe event with 'Helen Joyce, in conversation' hosted by Children & Women First.
Anyone know who they are? I haven't heard of them before.

Baroness Nicholson is Children and Women first.
Hurrah for the Baroness!!

The tories have a fringe event at the labour conference?

HummingBeeBox · 28/09/2021 16:21

Woah the Tories and Helen Joyce! If I was Keir I would be worried with such a powerful voice on the side of the opposition. God help the tories if they try and manipulate her or shut her down or have their own agenda for what they want her to say.

Helleofabore · 28/09/2021 16:23

Yay... The Baroness' group..

Helleofabore · 28/09/2021 16:23

Was this about the webinar on Friday?

highame · 28/09/2021 16:24

It almost makes me want to vote Tory - bloody hell

FreeBritnee · 28/09/2021 16:25

Well hasn’t this made my bloody day!!

Helleofabore · 28/09/2021 16:26

The Baroness has also stated she wants to set up a live debate with speakers from all aspects of the discussion.

If anyone can do it, she can.

SpindleWorld · 28/09/2021 16:32

Quite a coup for the Baroness.

I wonder if the Noaksey crew will try to get it cancelled?

SpindleWorld · 28/09/2021 16:34

I'd love to see a well-hosted debate where contributors aren't gagged by being told that they can't say certain fairly orthodox things.

poshme · 28/09/2021 16:38

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

The tories have a fringe event at the labour conference?
No- sorry I wasn't clear. It's at Tory conference.
OP posts:
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 28/09/2021 16:59

Thanks, I have no idea how conferences work, and things are so mad that I'd have believed it too!

teawamutu · 28/09/2021 17:56

FANTASTIC! Two impressive women.

Bet this venue won't need to be kept secret for fear of aggressive violent fuckwits disrupting it.

JustcameoutGC · 28/09/2021 18:19

Ooooh. Now it will be interesting to see who pitches up at that. Everyone if you have a Tory MP, write to them and encourage them to attend.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 28/09/2021 18:32

Hurrah! She will certainly make a lot more sense than the numpties trying to avoid saying that only women have cervixes at the Labour conference!

poshme · 28/09/2021 18:37

There's a second event- baroness Nicholson hosting a discussion with various people including nimco Ali, Lisa Townsend & Nicola williams about women's sex based rights in prisons sports & healthcare.

There are also various other fringe events looking at the importance of free speech.

OP posts:
WarriorN · 28/09/2021 18:44

Oooh fabulous, more reason to invite her on to woman's hour...!

Artichokeleaves · 28/09/2021 18:52

Thank goodness for the Baroness. Actual debate and politics.

JoodyBlue · 28/09/2021 18:59

So OP, if you haven't visited the childrenandwomenfirst.org website - do!! On the meetings tab, the penultimate meeting, just take a listen to Helen speak there from a webinar held last Friday. She is immense in her passion and articulacy on this subject. Really worth time.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/09/2021 19:16

I could weep thinking about this. If Labour were having events like this, I'd start to have some confidence I could trust them. As things stand, I don't. My vote counts for very little as I live in one of the safest Labour seats in the country, but I know there are lots of people with the same concerns as me who live in far more marginal constitutuencies. There isn't a cat in hell's chance that Labour will win Scotland back in the foreseeable future. It's looking very unlikely that they will get the Red Wall seats back. With the worst Tory government I can ever remember in power, how in the name of the wee man is it possible that Labour can't be ahead in the polls?

Identity politics, that's why.

www.feministcurrent.com/2018/03/23/leftist-women-uk-refuse-accept-labours-attempts-silence-critiques-gender-identity/ I'll post this article again. Scroll down for the devastating account of what happens when idpol/Queer Theory aficionados try to get involved with grassroots community projects with the (genuinely) most marginalised and oppressed minority groups.

Sad Angry

@highame

Same here!
RedDogsBeg · 28/09/2021 19:40

I hope Helen Joyce repeats what she said on the webinar, it was damn powerful, spot on and needs to be heard by the Government.

NecessaryScene · 28/09/2021 20:06

Here's the aforementioned session with Helen Joyce (and Baroness Nicholson, Sonia Appleby, Jean Hatchet, Graham Linehan and Posie Parker).

Helen was indeed awesome.

(And so was everyone else)

JoodyBlue · 28/09/2021 20:13

@NecessaryScene - thanks for doing that :) I should have done that - doh! Flowers
