Philip Wilkinson, new PCC for Swindon and Wiltshire

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9973107/PCC-warns-biological-men-not-allowed-womens-toilets-prisons-security-fears.html

or if you prefer

archive.is/qDLjf

Initially at least three other Conservative PCCs went public to say that they shared her concerns – Donna Jones, the PCC for Hampshire & Isle of Wight, Marc Jones, for Lincolnshire, and Rupert Mathews, who serves as the PCC for Leicestershire and other like Philip Allott of North Yorks retweeted Marc Jones' support.

Again, all Tories. UK Labour Party is utterly, utterly lost on this.

Conservative Home has asked all Conservative PCCs for their thought and some more have responded:

If you have a Conservative PCC then it may well be worth writing to them asking if they agree with their colleagues above and what they'll be doing to promote women's safety in their area and enforcing impartiality within their police force. The more that come out, the more that will feel able to speak up.

Commenting on my own thread to give it a fresh start as it was buried for quite awhile on approval apparently. I am glad Mumsnet net decided it was ok to keep.

They are coming out now aren't they? And, as ever, it's interesting to watch how 'men' and 'males' is being interpreted as TW. With a background like his, the PCC should be a difficult man for the gender ideologists to shoot down. But he's a man, so will probably not suffer so badly.

FrancesGumm · 09/09/2021 16:50

OP - yes it was a brilliant statement from Philip Wilkinson.

I will write to mine who is Katy Bourne , Sussex. I did look online though (no idea how to link a page or anything) but there is a report just issued it’s on survivorsnetwork.org.uk/new-report-tnbi-survivors and it’s been commissioned jointly with Sussex PCC.
The first recommendation is ‘trans inclusion in existing spaces’ which to me sounds like pushing for males to be accepted in women’s rape shelters/discussion groups etc. The second recommendation is ‘trans and non-binary specific spaces’. It look like they’ve consulted trans, non-binary and intersex community on their needs, but makes no reference to the needs of women.
So basically they’re suggesting they get to both access women’s single sex spaces and also have their own separate spaces at the same time.

Katy Bourne , being Sussex covers Brighton. (The Survivors Network is also Brighton based. )
I am going to draft an email querying her opinion on Philip Wilkinson and Lisa Townsend’s points, but also reference this report and how it aims to maintain single sex spaces for women.

OhHolyJesus · 09/09/2021 17:00

I remember the Survivors Network, I think their inclusion policy stretches to their recruitment, for roles that would be providing support for child victims.

FindTheTruth · 09/09/2021 17:06

When will public bodies including the police and those in the justice system see the HUGE difference between Ideology, equal rights (aka living in peace side by side) and safeguarding?

FrancesGumm · 09/09/2021 17:14

By the way - I’m not including intersex in with trans and non binary myself - this is just how they worded it on the report.

Nachthex · 09/09/2021 17:23

I've been trying to find Philip Wilkinson's actual, full statement and not the DM or anyone else's rehash of what they claim he said. Can't find it. Couldn't bring myself to read Pink News's version. As we all know and keep saying, it's the male that's the problem. But there are lots of comments about trans people being allowed to use whatever facilities they want etc, clearly exhibiting ignorance of the law. Helen Belcher wading in, inevitably, saying the same. So depressing we ever got to this but the tide is turning just a bit at least.

FrancesGumm · 09/09/2021 17:37

@Nachthex - if you’re on fb it’s on there - he’s Philip Wilkinson pcc . It starts ‘I have spent most of the last twenty years ….’

mustlovegin · 09/09/2021 17:44

It's encouraging that people feel they can speak up, whatever their stance is.

Tanith · 09/09/2021 18:08

There are 26 Conservative PCCs, 8 Labour and 1 Plaid Cymru.

Only 5 PCCs have spoken out. It's good that they have done so, but they are evidently at odds with their party.

21 Conservative, 8 Labour and 1 Plaid Cymru PCCs have not spoken out.

I'm not really seeing a notable party political aspect.

Nachthex · 09/09/2021 18:25

Thanks FrancesGumm, will take a look.

I think quite a lot of those 21 conservatives are there for the persuading. Contacting your PCC is a good thing to do if you feel able to.

I was so cheered to see this earlier. Another chunk of sunlight....

Tanith · 09/09/2021 21:00

Surely contacting all of them, regardless of their party, is a good thing to do?

gluteustothemaximus · 09/09/2021 22:09

This has really cheered me up, on a day that our large secondary school, has now combined once separate boys/girls toilets to unisex with no plan or thought for safeguarding our girls, and on the back of the ofsted reports that show sexual harassment in secondary schools as rife.

BeBraverToday · 10/09/2021 09:37

This is fantastic. I am going to write and express my thanks.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/09/2021 19:00

After all the abuse he has received I saw that he has issued a statement of clarification. My heart sank as I assumed he was going to "do better", to "educate himself" and perhaps have diversity training from on of the TRA groups. But no, he is sticking by his guns Shock Grin

jhuizinga · 10/09/2021 19:11

I wrote to my (Conservative) PCC. He didn't express a view on the basis that such relationships were an operational matter but did, with my permission, forward my concerns to the Chief Constable. It turns out the force has left the Stonewall programme anyway, which surprised me, but has to be regarded as a good thing.

mustlovegin · 10/09/2021 19:29

But no, he is sticking by his guns

A breath of fresh air

PickAChew · 10/09/2021 19:53

Labour PCC, here. No specific statements in their equality and diversity plan, dated this year, but at least they are not misquoting the equality act, SW styler. It correctly includes sex and gender reassignment as protected characteristics.

The absolute beaut 👍
Realyorkshiretea · 10/09/2021 20:21

Do email him your thanks if you can - he will be facing a barrage of abuse for this, which after a while can become really mind twisting and wearing. He needs to know just how much support he has. What a brave person.

losenotloose · 10/09/2021 21:40

I'm new to the Feminism chat and decided to have a look after hearing more about gender identity ideology. It's been eye opening and I'm so impressed with the intelligent posts on the subject. Far cleverer people than me! Anyway, I'd like to express my gratitude to this PCC. could someone help with the rough wording?

Realyorkshiretea · 10/09/2021 22:23

@losenotloose it really doesn’t need to be fancy - just a thank you for standing up for women and girls Smile
