Philip Wilkinson, new PCC for Swindon and Wiltshire

or if you prefer

Initially at least three other Conservative PCCs went public to say that they shared her concerns – Donna Jones, the PCC for Hampshire & Isle of Wight, Marc Jones, for Lincolnshire, and Rupert Mathews, who serves as the PCC for Leicestershire and other like Philip Allott of North Yorks retweeted Marc Jones' support.

Again, all Tories. UK Labour Party is utterly, utterly lost on this.

Conservative Home has asked all Conservative PCCs for their thought and some more have responded:

If you have a Conservative PCC then it may well be worth writing to them asking if they agree with their colleagues above and what they'll be doing to promote women's safety in their area and enforcing impartiality within their police force. The more that come out, the more that will feel able to speak up.

I’ve just read Philip Wilkinson’s statement. Good man! He knows how much abuse he’s going to get, but he’s not backing down. I despair of the Labour Party and Green Party, grovelling to whoever shouts loudest (and that’s never women).

I’m going to look up my local PCC and write to them.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/09/2021 09:47

After all the abuse he has received I saw that he has issued a statement of clarification. My heart sank as I assumed he was going to "do better", to "educate himself" and perhaps have diversity training from on of the TRA groups. But no, he is sticking by his guns

The more people who do this and ride out the storm, the less others will be scared to stand up.

Yes, and he’s high-level and influential. A very encouraging example to set.

Realyorkshiretea · 11/09/2021 10:29

With his career history, he doesn’t seem like the kind of person who would be easily intimidated.

Interesting thread - but depressing for those of us living in London… have probably belatedly and naively just discovered that we don’t get a PCC because we have a mayor - yay - lucky us having Sadiq ‘Stonewall approved’ Khan…

I was really encouraged to see David Sidwick the PCC for Dorset speaking up and backing Lisa Townsend.

This is the map of PCCs, if you want to write to yours, either in support or to request clarification of his or her position:
