I've been lurking with increasing horror and fury on these topic pages recently, so was pleased to see this just appear on Twitter.

Not sure if this is right place to post, have just had to do an online thing with my NHS trust, it asks 'what is your sex' male or female, and separate question also about trans, and defines this as 'a person whose gender is not the same as the sex they were registered at birth'. Last year same survey asked your gender only and options male/female/other... please describe..

cariadlet · 30/08/2021 12:08

@MichelleScarn To people who haven't followed the debate, that would seem a very minor change, one that they might not even notice but it's actually huge. The pushback has definitely started.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 30/08/2021 12:10

It is shocking isn't it cariadlet. Given that he is evidently open about his sexual kink for bondage and restraining people, how on earth has he progressed in nursing?
No wonder women nurses are protesting and so many women now feel unsafe in hospitals if he's the type of man who the NHS and medical unions are promoting. Imagine preparing to give birth and he walks into the room Angry

MichelleScarn · 30/08/2021 12:18

Isn't it @cariadlet what makes me sad though is I don't feel I could mention how positive this is at work as many of the staff have 'taken the pledge' and wear the shiny badge.

theThreeofWeevils · 30/08/2021 12:50

how on earth has he progressed in nursing?

How did he progress so fast?

Dawes, a maths graduate, followed his mother into nursing. He became one of the youngest chief executives in the NHS at the age of 31

MrsOvertonsWindow · 30/08/2021 12:54

That's a massively important change MichelleScarn. Maybe it might be a helpful reference point when looking at some of the other batshit questions so beloved by medics:
"Maybe we should stick to the questions just put out by the trust in this questionnaire? It's obviously the most up to date?"

MrsOvertonsWindow · 30/08/2021 12:55

He was a Chief Executive? I wonder whether it was one of the Trusts that's celebrating the presence of male born sex offenders on women's wards? (joining the red flagged dots and all that)

What a well written and thoughtful article. Thanks for sharing

He's been active in the RCN since he was a student. I rather think that, like so many before him, he has spent very little time at the clinical coalface.

Nursing's a predominantly female profession yet so many senior positions are held by men - they shoot straight up the greasy pole.

This has been a phenomenon I've noticed consistently throughout my many, many years in nursing.

theThreeofWeevils · 30/08/2021 13:47

There's a similar pattern in primary school teaching. But I digress.

Yup.
Skinnytailedsquirrel · 30/08/2021 15:10

A piece of good news at last.

cariadlet · 30/08/2021 18:19

I'm a primary school teacher (also autistic so tend to be quite obsessive once I've become interested in something) and have spent much of the summer holiday finding out as much as I can about trans ideology and the threats which it poses.

I feel quite fired up and ready to challenge anything that worries me.

cariadlet · 30/08/2021 18:20

My last post was supposed to be quoting pp about primary schools.
