This hashtag is now trending on Twitter…

@yourhairiswinterfire

I believe Twitter have started to rescind their deletions of GC feminists as to do otherwise would be unlawful?

They have.

Suspended Twitter users mentioned the Forstater judgement in their suspension appeals, told Twitter they were discriminating against them for their legally protected beliefs, and got reinstated 😊

Hey!!! Sanity prevails. A little bit at a time...
Abhannmor · 22/08/2021 16:17

@MargaritaPie

He was banned from Twitter for hateful conduct apparently.

He also publicly revealed the identity of the individual on his blog (I saw this article and can vouch for this) who apparently reported Marion Millar to the police which resulted in her being charged. Isn't that contempt of court?

I'm not a lawyer but ....wouldn't it be rather Kafkaesque for the accused to be identified but not the plaintiff? With the obvious exception of rape and sexual assault charges. As for hateful conduct on Twitter ; you cannot be serious.
GreyhoundG1rl · 22/08/2021 16:19

Contempt of court? Confused

Clymene · 22/08/2021 16:31

Wild guess but I suspect @MargaritaPie has no legal training

BlueberryCheezecake · 22/08/2021 17:40

@PatsArrow

It trended for nearly 2 days.

Glinner was banned from Twitter for saying "Men aren't women though". Unbelievable really.

I don't think this hashtag means anything new/big has happened to him recently. I know he's made a huge connection with The Scottish Witches and Marion Millar tweeted Twitter support to ask for Glinner to be reinstated. I think it might have come from that?

Whatever the reason it's really great to see it. Also even greater that the abusive tweets have gained very little traction.

No, he wasn't. He was banned for harassing a college professor, despite repeated warnings, and for "platform manipulation" (which usually means using sockpuppets to boost your own tweets).
Waitwhat23 · 22/08/2021 18:11

Really? I can't find any reports (even on Pink News) about him harassing a college professor. Who was it?

The Metro article said this - 'Linehan’s account was closed after he reportedly tweeted “men aren’t women tho” in response to a post by the Women’s Institute wishing their transgender members a happy Pride.'

Is this not a protected belief? Twitter are now having to reinstate the accounts of GC posters because of the Forstater case.

I really can't comment about the platform manipulation - what was the evidence for this?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/08/2021 18:15

No, he wasn't. He was banned for harassing a college professor,

I'm pretty sure he was banned for misgendering Aimee Challenor in a tweet, but you do you.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/08/2021 18:16

Surely not? Say it ain't so!

@BlueberryCheezecake Interesting, could you provide some links to sources?

PermanentTemporary · 22/08/2021 19:18

I try not to assume anyone I agree with is automatically virtuous, but I've seen so much straightforward lying about Maya Forstater's case that I am reluctant to believe allegations without backup.

It's true that I doubt anyone has been mass reported like Glinner was, and that's partly because he just wouldn't shut up when he was told, and sometimes wouldn't back off when it might have been better if he had. Twitter is a public space and not everyone is resilient. But the TRAs were absolutely determined to get him off Twitter and isolate him because he's a big name and gives ballast to this this issue in the UK. Imagine if Aaron Sorkin were doing this in the US.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 22/08/2021 19:31

If Glinner had never done anything else in his life other than Father Ted,I'd still think he was great. But to add all the other successful comedies,plus standing up for women and girls,when contemporaries don't,well he's a brave and principled man as well as a comedic genius.

Jux · 24/08/2021 20:42

Glinner is a hero.

dyslek · 24/08/2021 20:56

I saw him once in a coffee shop on Holloway road, he was with his baby, it was years ago.
Lovely and clever and brave man all round.

Jaysmith71 · 24/08/2021 21:04

This "College Professor" wouldn't be a keen cyclist, would they?

Pudmyboy · 24/08/2021 21:43

Glinner is genius! On Nov last year a survey reported that the IT Crowd had the most laughs per minute out of a bunch of popular comedy shows. I hope he knows he is appreciated, and that he is looking after himself and doesn't get burned out. I have a wish that JKR and Glinner collaborate on something brilliant for TV and have James Dreyfus star in it, making shed loads of cash for all concerned and putting Glinner and James back in the public eye.

dyslek · 24/08/2021 21:53

I wonder if there is a corralation between talent and being GC?

Actors/ writters, any creative person, who is very good at what they do are probably used to thinking they dont need to be so conformist, they can rely on talent rather than just being in fashion?

You could have something there.
Cailin66 · 25/08/2021 12:04

Glinner is a hero of mine because he and his wife stood up for Irish women in the Abortion referendum when others were too cowardly to do so including politicians. I will never forget him for it and for his bravery. The atmosphere was toxic at the time and he got a lot of stick for it.

That Amnesty Ireland guy O Gorman went round Ireland with Graham supporting Repeal. But now he has blocked him. I don't think O Gorman cares about womens rights at all. He just used Glinner to increase his profile. All the charities and NGOs in Ireland are a bloody snake pit 🙄

interesting. Also explains why these people get such vitrol from the TRAs who demonstrate very little in the way of original thought or reflection - they just spout a script.

acolderwar · 25/08/2021 15:01

@FightingtheFoo

I love Glinner - was a huge fan of his work long before I knew who he was.

Will forever be grateful to him for the stand he has taken on this issue at great personal and professional expense.

And guess what? I absolutely deplore some of his other views on another (completely different) topic he speaks fairly frequently about (not mentioning it here as I don't want to derail the thread).

Funny how that works right. It's almost like book burning doesn't have to be your first port of call when you disagree with someone!

What other views. I can't find anything on google or Reddit.
