Thought it deserved a thread of its own on this day of the shopping trip to Glasgow.
JK Rowling has just tweeted it too in response to Joanna Cherry. How I love all these strong, brave women.

I'm such a lightweight - feeling tipsy already. Grin

Good turnout! It's been great to be able to gather around in public again.

terryleather · 20/07/2021 16:53

Fabulous event with great lineup of speakers...got a bit fan girl at so many amazing women...sadly I had to miss the pub along with the chance of meeting and chatting to other "won't wheesters" - hope everyone who went had a fantastic time.

@ArtemesiaK

Can anyone thing of a punchy slogan like that for us in England? :) Wishing you all the best...
Just use WWW. Women all over the world have adopted it already.
ScreamingMeMe · 20/07/2021 17:39

@Melroses

Glorious day for a trip around the shops, and to spend a little time relaxing in the park.

My Grandma in Northumberland used to use "Wheesht" ❤

Reminds me of the old folk song about the Lambton Worm

Whisht! Lads, haad yor gobs,
An Aa'll tell ye's aall an aaful story
Whisht! Lads, haad yor gobs,
An' Aa'll tell ye 'boot the worm.

highame · 20/07/2021 17:48

I always thought this was linked to 'it wont wash' which means it isn't accepted. I think they're linked but women wont wheesht has more punch

BlackForestCake · 20/07/2021 17:55

Breaking news, trans activists have mustered a counter-demo with three people on it.

That's after making out earlier that 250 people on a weekday during a heatwave was a poor turnout.

3 real life TRAs? How many twitter TRAs is that?

GromblesofGrimbledon · 20/07/2021 18:11

We had a fantastic time. Couldn't make it on to the beer garden but it was wonderful just to come and hear everyone speak.

Congrats to all involved in such a great turnout. 💜🤍💚

Waitwhat23 · 20/07/2021 18:17

Couldn't make it to Glasgow but glad to hear it went well. Amused to hear of the 3 protesters - that must have been rather embarrassing for them!

noraclavicle · 20/07/2021 18:22

ScreamingMeMe that’s how I first heard of it, from my Northumbrian DF singing the Lambton Worm all the time Smile

BlackForestCake · 20/07/2021 18:22

In fairness they did manage 15 in the end.

But we're the insignificant minority that nobody agrees with.

Ah we spied one goon during the speeches. He was masked up with a bandana and dark glasses while the police spoke to him. He hung around up the back. Did more show when everyone moved on to the beer garden?

That song used to terrify me when I was little Smile

I see a small band of TRAs came after everyone left the Green to replace suffragette ribbons and signs with this...

I've seen #WomenWillSpeak being used. Seems to fit well with #WomenWontWheesht
Undersnatch · 20/07/2021 23:02

Ahhh gutted that I couldn’t make it and so happy to be able to watch some of the footage. There were many more of us there in spirit.

Well, that's pretty racist.

Meanwhile, this misogynist - well known as a nuisance Tweeter on Scottish Twitter - is ineptly trying to convince the Twittosphere that (1) nobody went to the “rally” and (2) if anybody did go it was suspiciously many men and (3) if there wiz ony women there they wiz over 40 and therefore “not human representative”.

I think that this response, from an actual trans person, is concise and apt - in the apparent absence of a mum or dad or gran or gramp to skelp the little nyaff’s backside inform Whaley that there’s history and memory and policy and law and culture in Scotland that is not 100% recklessly centred on his individual narcissistic little woman-hating self and people exactly like him (and damn everybody else).

Belleager · 21/07/2021 00:15

Don't Irish - Western? South-Western? - mammies say "hold your whisht"? Whisht for short?

Igneococcus · 21/07/2021 06:05

The Times thinks it was hundreds of women, feminists even:

Also in the Scotland section, the NHS robbed the rainbow from LGBT+ it seems, "blatant cultural approbriation" says Peter Tatchell:
