Hi, I am armed and dangerous with the literal violence of purple, white and green ribbons. My plan is to attach meaningful quotes or phrases on laminated pieces of paper but I'm not sure what to write for the best impact and communication of Women’s rights. Please could you give me some ideas other than the dictionary definition of woman. Ideal places to put them too. Public loos? Park bench? Sea wall railings? End of the pier might be a good one. On the train somewhere?
My stickers are so far still where I've left them and we are on a day trip to a different area tomorrow so I'm going to make the most of it with some activism.

BunnyRuddington I don’t know what you’re looking up, but I just googled “Women won’t wheesht” and got plenty of results on the first page, which don’t take much reading to understand exactly what it’s about and it’s meaning.

Sorry, I'm still standing by my original post saying that WomenWontWheesh won't mean much to the average person seeing the ribbons with that hashtag.

I've googled again, had a look at the first 3 links that came up, had a quick read and it still wasn't obvious what it was about.

If someone sees the hashtag and can be bothered to look it up, I don't think they are likely to look further than the first 3 links, or maybe that's just me.

I wasn't really looking for an argument about it, just wanted to say that from my experience, I've found it didn't give me much of a clue about the issue and that this may be the experience of others so the OP may want to put something different on her labels.

I've been isolating for 9 days and making up ribbons for my release date. Wink Love the suggestions as I'm bot very creative.

I've just been doing the #istandwithmaya and sex-maters.org

Will start adding more variety now, thank you.

It’s not a phrase I’m familiar with, but the For Women Scotland website (which is at the top of Google) made it very clear what the ribbons might mean or signify and what the issue is. Their website couldn’t be much clearer.

If it doesn’t for others, well I don’t know what to say - but never mind, it’s no harm done, it’s just a ribbon and a hashtag and they can carry on obliviously.

OP I think it's important to bear in mind when doing your labels that there are roughly 4.1m active users of Twitter in the U.K. some might be like me who hardly ever look at it, so not everyone will have seen Twitter or be interested in it.

Also, the average reading age in the U.K. is 9 years, it's less in a lot of the areas near to me, 7 years is the average where I work. Probably best to keep things clear and use simple language in an easy to read font.

Crikey Bunny, I didn't know that about the reading age. I've just googled it and it's true. Alongside reading an article this morning about California deliberately holding back gifted students in the name of equity, I am really shocked. (But that's for another thread.)

Women won't wheesht and don't tell us to sit down and shut up we're on the same ribbon. I've linked things on the same ribbon so that anyone reading will have an idea what it means.
I didn't know what wheesht meant but the tone was clear. A quick google told me it was a Scottish word and took me to the Marion Millar case.

The National reading age is appalling and I don't know how children can go through school and not be picked up as needing extra help. I imagine there's a correlation between poor reading comprehension levels and interest in current affairs and that needs addressing. I do find FWR quite wordy sometimes and I have a degree and 2 post grads so if I struggle there's not much chance of the average reading level reader understanding the complexities.

That’s also an excellent and often used argument for saying ‘women’ instead of ‘people with specific body part’.

I've ribboned the notice board above the hot desk I use. No stickers or labels, I need to keep it subtle. Nobody has commented on my green, white and purple lanyard cord yet but it's only been a few days.

My last two ribbons are fluttering nicely in the breeze still and I've got two stickers stuck on at the skatepark frequented by all the wokesters.

I have revisited my local ribbons a couple of times, fully expecting them to have been removed.

It's a nice reminder that real life is nothing like Twitter.

I spotted some ribbons in Leeds yesterday, took heart and wondered if they might originate with these vipers. Excellent work women!

Nah. Littering is more in the vein of discarded crisp packets, face masks, empty cans, and fast food wrappers.

Taken from Merriam Webster.

"4a:trash, wastepaper, or garbage lying scattered about

trying to clean up the roadside litter

b:an untidy accumulation of objects
a shabby writing-desk covered with alitterof yellowish dusty documents— Joseph Conrad "

I think the word you're looking for is flyposting.

While we're on the subject though, would anyone like to discuss whether this qualifies as littering? [curious]
