I've nicked a title, opened the door, dusted off the bar.

Come in and drown your sorrows, celebrate or just hang out in good company.

Wow. Thanks for opening Errol.

And lovely to see so many new faces as well amongst the regulars.

I will have a Rosé vermouth and tonic and a great wedge of lemon please. Summer is here after all.

Cheers🥂!!

ArabellaScott · 26/06/2021 10:10

Coffee and Eggs Benedict would be tip top, thanks chef!

The cafe is lovely, I particularly like the wisteria draped all over the thingummy [waves hands vaguely] and the view of the lakes.

BlackeyedSusan · 26/06/2021 10:17

I've got one who thinks it is acceptable to use the word Karen at me.

First time venturing into the Bluestocking. I normally drink gin from the barrel with a snorkel in the G&C way over there-->

Leafstamp · 26/06/2021 10:23

Checking in, large coffee and a bacon sandwich please!

In all seriousness, I’ve had a tough week with school being dismissive of my concerns, quite worrying as I’m actually now losing sleep over it.

Such a horrible feeling when you feel like you’re not being listened to.

Next stop, I’m asking a for a meeting.

BlackeyedSusan · 26/06/2021 10:25

Good luck leaf.

Leafstamp · 26/06/2021 10:29

Thank you. It does help to know I’m not the only one dealing with this and that we support each other.

Chin up!

ArabellaScott · 26/06/2021 10:34

Oh, Leaf. That sounds really hard. Anything we can do?

highame · 26/06/2021 10:39

I was going to write a diatribe about Gavin Williamson then Leaf but realised I might end up derailing. Things may change (sooner rather than later) hopefully.

A bit early but can I get you a bucket of gin, it's pretty cheap here?

SelfPortraitWithEels · 26/06/2021 10:42

Yes, good luck. Flowers

Leafstamp · 26/06/2021 10:43

Thanks Arabella, that’s really kind. Flowers. Im resigned to it being hard work for a while, things worth fighting for often are. Hopefully I will get more satisfactory engagement before the end of term.

I’m going to have a read of the Feminist Self Care Thread today/tmrw.

I get quite worried about putting too much on a public forum but I am in touch with one or two people offline.

Sounds good high.

Anyway, do let rip on Hancock. It was a comfort yesterday when I realised he was having a much worse day than me!

I very nearly wrote a very detailed post in here last night about uterus transplants - and then decided to post it as a standalone post.

In the end I cancelled it because I tried to archive the Twitter thread that sparked it but after 8 hours it still hadn't worked its way up the queue. I left it running overnight (when I was still something like 9867 place in the queue) and when I looked today in the interim the tweeter had locked their account so archive wouldn't work.

And the post made no sense without seeing just how out there that thread was - but, unknown to that tweeter, some of what was being demanded as reproductive justice is already happening in some countries. However, it's hard to get a clear story because the clinicians who talk about it don't always seem to understand the difference between trans and DSD, and it's unclear there is a consistent usage of what it means to be TW or TM.

So - upside, you've all been spared that. Although I may need to return to it at some point.

JustcameoutGC · 26/06/2021 10:51

May need to pop in here today. Hosting party for 15 6 year olds.

Leafstamp · 26/06/2021 10:56

Oh how frustrating for you Embarassing. I saw some of that on Twitter (not sure if same thread as you were reading).

I suppose it’s not surprising that if people don’t know what a man and a woman are then the rest of their biology knowledge will leave little to be desired.

Leafstamp · 26/06/2021 10:57

Good luck with that Just. We’ll make yours double measures!

The one that was me-railing to the reproductive justice right for TW to have uterus transplants as analogous to Britney Spear's IUD and the campaign for abortion rights?
ErrolTheDragon · 26/06/2021 11:13

Matthew Parris had an interesting column in the Times on the fallacy of 'inalienable rights'... how in reality many 'rights' conflict.

The one downside of this bar being virtual is that we can't have a pile of actual newspapers, and times sharetokens seem not to be working nowadays.

Apropos of which ... the view over to the lake is enhanced by the crumbling stone wall, isn't it?

I have been watching back to back His Dark Materials with the daughters and now think of The Schism as The Anomaly.. imagining us all squeezing through from the scorched plains of FWR.

I adhere to a strict nothing that might need ice until six pm rule, so I’ll have a packet of crisps please.

CorvusPurpureus · 26/06/2021 11:19

I'll have a bloody Mary with extra tabasco I think.

I've been quietly changing my FB cover photo every few days to various purple/green/white things, Jess de Wahls artwork...y'know, I'm subtle me.

Just put up a picture of my moonlit garden for a change & instantly get a pointed pm from Woke Mate saying 'oooh I like that one! Garden's looking lovely!' 😒

Replied saying I liked a bit of gardening, definitely. (I know she lurks on here to disapprove, so that'll irritate her...).

We go back to when dinosaurs roamed & I love her dearly, but 😠 🤬 😡.

It's unhidden now - excellent. I wonder if there's any chance of getting it archived against me being time rich enough to recreate my post?

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 26/06/2021 11:33

And it is archived - yet archive told me it was now a padlocked account and they couldn't archive it when I tried.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 26/06/2021 11:48

As a taster, Sweden has already transplant uteri and had successful pregnancies when implementing this for women with DSD.

Pennsylvania centre has so far also done this for a woman with a DSD.

However, Sweden is now resuming the transplant programme (halted by Covid) with a view to offering it (eventually) to TW. Bear in mind, the clinicians I was speaking with were conversing brilliantly in a language that wasn't their mother tongue - but it seemed that they were clueless as to the distinction of DSD and trans (plus, as I mentioned, what is meant by TW and TM) and were shaky on their understanding of the levels of immunosuppressive drugs involved, the duration of them, and that a viable pregnancy involves more than the uterus to sustain it.

theThreeofWeevils · 26/06/2021 12:33

"We deserve to have the chance to experience pregnancy too."
So, female biology as theme park...
Also, were that tweeter a person I cared about, I would be seriously concerned for them. But since they aren't, I feel I deserve the chance to make comparisons with a particularly generously filled box of frogs.
