Sonia Appleby raising questions about the Tavi's child safeguarding

Not sure if we're allowed to discuss matters pertaining to child safeguarding on here anymore, after MNHQ deleted my other thread about it. I've asked for clarification.

Sonia Appleby is one of the whistleblowers who has raised very serious concerns around the processes at this NHS clinic which provides services to children. One of her allegations is that her colleagues were instructed not to bring safeguarding concerns to her, although she was in the post of safeguarding children lead for the trust.

Does anyone have any idea of when this case might be heard? Or any thoughts about it?

I daren't even put the link to the BBC News article in my OP for fear of it being misconstrued as a 'fundraising thread', but I know you can find more information about the case if you search 'Sonia Appleby Tavistock', should you want to. ThanksDaffodilThanks

There is a gardening thread which has a good Twitter link

It's soon and her crowdfunder has 2 days to go.

This is such an important case. Sonia Appleby has worked to protect and safeguard vulnerable children for her whole career and now seems to have been hung out to dry. She deserves all of our support.

Manderleyagain · 28/05/2021 10:37

This is going to be an important case. It must be awful to bring a case like this against your own employer while you are still working there. Whistle blowers are brave! I have chucked in a trowel full.

MaudTheInvincible · 29/05/2021 19:37

14th June! That's much sooner than I thought. I know the appeal to Keira's case is towards the end of June and Allison Bailey's case isn't being heard till next year now, do we know when to expect Maya's judgment or the one in the prisons case? Are there any others? It's hard to keep up there are so many!

Fair cop and the prisons decision must both be imminent. It must’ve been a good 2 months since they were heard.

Terranean · 30/05/2021 22:15

Sent some support today! Not much longer to go! If you have some spare givers, Sonia’s case is another big piece of the puzzle!

Mollyollydolly · 30/05/2021 22:18

What happens if a crowd funder doesn't reach its target. I gave this week but it was still a good way short. Does it still go ahead?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 31/05/2021 08:33

The fundraiser will decide with their lawyers if there is enough money to move ahead. They can extend the stretch date but that is only worth doing if they are close. They can carry on fund raising during and after the case to cover any outstanding bills.

MaudTheInvincible · 31/05/2021 09:07

It looks like Sonia and her team have decided to extend it. It's creeping up and up for another month now.

The TAVI current safeguarding lead is in court on Monday. does anyone know if anyone is live tweeting?

ChattyLion · 12/06/2021 09:55

Good luck and thank you for your personal and professional bravery on behalf of children Sonia.

FindTheTruth · 12/06/2021 15:00

Dr David Bell, psychiatrist behind a critical report on the TAVI, was "asked to agree not to speak any further to Sonia Appleby, the trust’s director of child safeguarding. (Appleby is bringing a whistleblowing claim against the trust in which she alleges that when she made “protected disclosures” regarding concerns raised by GIDS staff over patient safety, she was subjected to detriments.)"

FindTheTruth · 12/06/2021 15:02

"over 35 clinicians have quit GIDS because they are worried about ‘overdiagnoses’ of gender dysphoria. Sonia Appleby, who works at GIDS as its Named Professional for Safeguarding Children, is even bringing a case against the Tavistock on the grounds that it is failing in its duty to safeguard children, by encouraging staff not to report any child safety concerns to her."

FindTheTruth · 12/06/2021 15:05

"The lead safeguarding officer responsible for children’s safety at the UK’s national Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) is suing her employers the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust for penalising her after she raised concerns that children were being harmed by practices at the clinic".
