The children selling explicit videos on OnlyFans

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 27/05/2021 08:01

British subscription site OnlyFans is failing to prevent underage users from selling and appearing in explicit videos, a BBC investigation has found.
Under-18s have used fake identification to set up accounts, and police say a 14-year-old used a grandmother's passport.
The UK's most senior police officer for child protection also says children are being "exploited" on the platform.

I'm surprised that anyone ever thought any different...

(Anyone in general,.not having a go at you op!)

NotBadConsidering · 27/05/2021 08:17

This is why the “sex positive” argument is complete bullshit. For every one woman who feels “empowered” by selling their body, online or in real life, there are thousands underneath who are pumped and exploited. An environment is created where this exploitation can’t be protected from, can’t be undone, and it all becomes “too hard” to fix because the “sex positive” advocates making money would lose out. It’s sickening really.

NotBadConsidering · 27/05/2021 08:17

*Pimped out

Mumoblue · 27/05/2021 08:18

🤮 Good lord that is horrific.

Sadly, I’m not surprised. OF has been hyped up as fun and easy and a quick way to get rich, and impressionable kids who do not understand consequences are likely to be influenced by that.

Those images will be spread and be on the internet forever.

I was already not a fan of OF, but this is just sickening.

TheWeeDonkey · 27/05/2021 09:08

Didn't BBC spend most of last year flogging this mlm as a positive and 'empowering' way for young women to get rich quick last year?

I mean to be fair they're not the only ones but still its a bit rich isn't it?

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 27/05/2021 09:12

Where I grew up the nearest brothels (4 houses away, both sides of us) pimped the children of the women who ran them. I don't know if they included other children.

In addition to the empowerment publicity etc. I'd be startled if familiar patterns of behaviour aren't happening on OF or similar.

Mrsjayy · 27/05/2021 09:14

This had to happen didn't it not shocked at all . I saw a ",celeb" on day time TV slip in the interview about her account and how it was empowering and she was very open with her Dds About it and one of them even took her "cheeky" pics for her. It's all so seedy normalises selling yourself as empowering bullshit!

DeeJayLippy · 27/05/2021 09:17

I heard about this on Radio4 this morning. The reporter seemed keen to point out that all the customers had received full refunds. Because yeah that's the concern of your listeners R4...the consumer rights of men who pay children for nudes...

Mrsjayy · 27/05/2021 09:20

Oh god well that's reassuring that only fans offer full refunds!

Erikrie · 27/05/2021 09:22

That's interesting. Yesterday my DD was talking about a girl at school that had been 'selling' videos of herself naked online and £100 had been dumped in friends bank account for doing this. The girl is age 12 although looks older. DD didn't know what platform it was. I wonder if this could have been it. Was planning to try and investigate this further.

Mrsjayy · 27/05/2021 09:25

I would report that to the school or the police but if I wasn't sure then definitely school.

allmywhat · 27/05/2021 09:25

Oh god well that's reassuring that only fans offer full refunds!

Only to men who purchase CSE material. Men who masturbate to adults still pay full price.

CardinalLolzy · 27/05/2021 09:26

Why is this news now - I'm assuming further evidence has been found of even more cases then, since the bbc made a whole documentary on this a year ago (which included underage kids):

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p087m1nh
Nudes4Sale

"Reporter Ellie Flynn investigates how thousands of ordinary people and teenagers all across the world are making money from selling their own nude photos and videos."

Good that it's getting further scrutiny but I assume nothing was done a year ago then, so I'm not holding out much hope that anything will change.

Devlesko · 27/05/2021 14:10

I was asked to take part in this, when posting on here.
I know girls of 16/18 earning enough to pay college and uni fees.
The youngest I heard about through her dm was 14. Sad
Many are mc white English girls, many from The Home Counties/ South.

YellowFish12 · 27/05/2021 14:20

I watched the docu that CardinalLolzy links to above a while ago =- it really is shocking :-(

Sadly, “empowered” seems to be synonymous with “desired”. Empowered should mean to be confident to be who you are without the need of validation of others, especially strangers. Not needing surgery or cosmestic procedures. Not needing to be “sex positive”. But, no. Empowered is to completely submit to the patriarchal demands on your appearance.
PearPickingPorky · 27/05/2021 15:58

I'm sure I am not the only one who heard this this morning and thought "well, yeah, obviously".

Men want to watch girls who look underage. The girls who tend to look underage are underage.

That's what they are there for. It's why they give the girls money, because they like looking at their (underage/-looking) body. No point pretending now that this is horrifying and they can't believe it.

It's a feature, not a bug.

ChattyLion · 27/05/2021 20:16

The government have to do something about this, it’s absolutely horrendous.

ValancyRedfern · 27/05/2021 22:09

'it's a feature; not a bug'

Absolutely this. Colour me utterly unsurprised.

FrameyMcFrame · 27/05/2021 23:27

The whole thing disgusts me.

Commodification that people embrace willingly

Women are becoming more downtrodden.
Where are the young women who will stand up against this?

NiceGerbil · 28/05/2021 00:06

Read this earlier and it's terrible but who's surprised.

I was also a bit ???? at the men getting refunded.

And then reading your OP I realised what I hadn't put my finger on.

These men have solicited/ purchased pictures/video of child sexual activity.

Why is the focus on the children? Where are the men? And the spotlight is usually off them but going on about them getting their money back?

If they can be refunded the platform knows who they are.

Shouldn't it be men buying illegal pics and exploiting children?

Shouldn't it say they will be getting calls from the police????

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 28/05/2021 02:16

ACatWhoBinds

It's not an mlm?? Who told you that😂😂

Let's tackle this question in detail.

The OnlyFans Affiliate Model

If you’re not familiar with how referral oraffiliate marketingworks it’s really simple. When someone uses your code or link to buy something or register for a service, they get a commission. In the case of user-based companies, like OnlyFans, affiliate programs are a great way to increase your user base quickly.

If you’re a member and someone signs up using your referral code you actually collect 5% of their earningsfor an entire year.[Note from Purgatory- it used to be forever, IIRC]

What’s important to note here is that is incredibly scalable passive income. Anyone would find that attractive and some people earn substantial profits just through referrals and affiliates. Affiliate marketing itself isn’t a scam and many online creators have some part of their online income coming from affiliate earnings. MLMs just happen to also use referral or affiliate programs for their recruitment to incentivise members to recruit.

(Continues)

It Turns OnlyFans Into an MLM – Sort of

AnMLM, or multi-level marketing company, is essentially a pyramid with the people at the top benefitting from everyone under them – a pyramid scheme. While this referral model isn’texactlythe same, there are a lot of shocking similarities to those types of companies.

First of all, you can base your entire business on referrals.Just like with an MLM company, you can make the bulk of your OnlyFans profit not with your own sales, but with your “team”. Coaching a team, rather than producing your own content, is big business in the OnlyFans world.

Blown out incomes lure people in.Imagine going from poverty to making over $30,000a month. Those stories are being shared around, but the truth is that those are the top 1% earners. And the top1% of OnlyFans accounts earn 33% of the money coming in on OnlyFans.

Direct sales folks use similar tactics but the reality for both is a lot of work for a lot less money.

Easy money and lifestyle selling. If the money isn’t enough these folks sell you on joining their lifestyle. Just like Tupperware lets you “party for a living”, OnlyFans creators can allegedly earn an income by uploading a few pictures from the comfort of their home.

(Continues)

Pressure, pressure, pressure. When all else fails, many MLMs and OnlyFans affiliates use this tactic – and you might not even realize it’s happening. Things like, “Hey, babe” (or “Hey boss babe” from MLMs) and “Come on, you’d be great at this!”.

All of this is bad enough when you’re trying to coerce adults into joining, but imagine if you used these same tactics on children?

(Continues)

The creator says that when you’re 18 you can join the platform and you, too, can make money. They might even invite you to a private group or Discord server to get tips and tricks if you sign up with their link.

Everyone is welcoming and supportive.

Kids Are Being Groomed

Now that it’s mainstream, people are asking teenagers to make OnlyFans when they turn 18. Two groups are responsible: Creepy people who find them attractive and want to see those types of pictures and predatory affiliates who think they can profit off young girls

So, tell me, what's more important? The differences between OF's financial model and a classic MLM, or the similarities?

Susannahmoody · 28/05/2021 02:50

So sick of the pornification of absolutely everything.

quixote9 · 28/05/2021 04:01

It's called porn because you're supposed to think in terms of erotica, and who except a Victorian Grundy could be against that?

It's not. If it was pro-sex it would be pro-women's sex too and would be giving men some useful skills in the process. At this point it's vicious, torture-filled hate speech selling women to men who want to feel more important than somebody else.

Of course we're sick of it. Everybody should be.
