The children selling explicit videos on OnlyFans

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 27/05/2021 08:01

British subscription site OnlyFans is failing to prevent underage users from selling and appearing in explicit videos, a BBC investigation has found.
Under-18s have used fake identification to set up accounts, and police say a 14-year-old used a grandmother's passport.
The UK's most senior police officer for child protection also says children are being "exploited" on the platform.

@Susannahmoody

So sick of the pornification of absolutely everything.
It's normalising it, isn't it. When it's anything but normal.

There's an awful lot of creeps out there. The best we can hope for is OF gets hacked and the men buying the underage photos named publicly.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 30/05/2021 16:49

Sorry, posted too soon there. So, kind of confused why matching bank account details would be an adequate security measure to stop under 18s being induced into signing up.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 30/05/2021 16:50

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

I opened my first bank account in my name when I was 14.
HSBC came into school when we were in year seven and our maths lesson was setting up a bank account with them. Our homework was to go into town and verify our accounts with some form of ID

@MargaritaPie

"Well I've never been forced to have sex with a customer or suck a senior colleague's dick so in that sense no its not anything like any other job."

Being forced to have sex isn't sexwork. It's called rape.

You're almost on to something there.
TheWeeDonkey · 30/05/2021 17:11

I think there are a lot of places that do think 25 Purgatory, a lot of pubs and bars do it too. DS is over 20 but has a babyface so he always has to show id when he's out.

I think the difference is a lot of these punters like em young for want of a better term, I don't think its a mistake when they're clicking onto images of children.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 30/05/2021 17:20

My heart bleeds for them.

According to drinkaware:

It is against the law:To sell alcohol to someone under 18 anywhere, and can lead to a maximum fine of £20,0001for bar staff/managers or premises may eventually be shut down.

So that's the potential penalty if minimum wage bar staff mess up repeatedly.

And men using OF would get their money refunded?! Hell no.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 30/05/2021 17:21

That should say £20,000. The 1 was in superscript and was a reference tag

Really good posts, PurgatoryOfPotholes. I thank you for you clear thinking on this.

@Devlesko

I was asked to take part in this, when posting on here. I know girls of 16/18 earning enough to pay college and uni fees. The youngest I heard about through her dm was 14. Sad Many are mc white English girls, many from The Home Counties/ South.
as in all prostution, the house is the only winner.

95+% of the young women tricked into signing up will not make any money whatsoever, and will be left with the fallout of having naked pictures of themselfs in the town square for the rest of their lives.

I don't think it's about the men, it's about the Web site not wanting to be seen to make a profit. That's probably criminal and why they had to return it.

NiceGerbil · 31/05/2021 02:51

Of course it's about the men.

They are the ones buying the product.

We know that men like young. That the schoolgirl age is very desirable. That barely legal is popular.

From our own lives many of us know that as well.

And I mean they can't have looked very old can they.

A poster upthread said well girls look older.

That's been said forever. To excuse creepy men.

Fact is that many girls bodies develop while they are young and society needs to shift it's idea of what girls look like at didn't ages. Because oh she looked 18, when she was 13, has been around forever. Yes girls that age can look grown up. That's not an excuse for sexually exploiting them.

Why aren't these men having the police knock on the door FFS. Seriously.

They have viewed images of/ watched live sex acts by underage children. That's illegal.

newnortherner111 · 31/05/2021 11:27

The sooner we have the so-called 'porn passport' the better.

Good point. I more meant that the site had to know to whom they were returning the subscriptions - why aren't the police forces knocking at the doors of those consumers in addition to scrutinising the site?

They have viewed images of/ watched live sex acts by underage children. That's illegal.

As with camming, my understanding is that subscribers can commission particular activities abuses - if there's a commercial link there then criminalise it.

coronaway · 31/05/2021 12:04

@newnortherner111

The sooner we have the so-called 'porn passport' the better.
How does this work exactly?

A lot of the younger generation are tech savvy and use VPNs etc so I wonder if this will make much difference.

BertieBotts · 31/05/2021 13:31

@MargaritaPie

"I opened my first bank account in my name when I was 14."

Yes under 18s can have a bank account. But if that account was given to a porn site (eg OnlyFans) to receive earnings during the sign-up process, the website should be able to verify the details(name and DOB etc) of the owner, and thus reject the application?

No - the bank would not be giving out that kind of information to any old random person who asks.

Sometimes a credit card is accepted as proof of age, because you normally need to be at least 18 to open a credit card account, but of course that doesn't stop someone from using a CC in somebody else's name.

MargaritaPie · 31/05/2021 13:31

Agree coronaway. The "verify your age to view porn" thing the UK Government has wanted for a long time is not enforceable and difficult to implement(which is why the Government kept stalling and stalling with it until giving it up for now). You don't even need to be tech savvy to be able to use a VPN or TOR anyway, it's basically common knowledge amongst young people these days.

Anyone who does verify their age to look at porn under the system would have their details put onto a database. That's going to be a real can of worms innit when hackers acquire and leak that database(which they will, nothing is safe online and if a database is desirable enough hackers will get it, look at Ashley Madison for example).

The middle-aged politicians who want this law in place likely aren't so tech savvy as young people, and don't realise just how a failure it would be.

TheWeeDonkey · 31/05/2021 13:54

But by the same token if you really do think that sex work is just work like any other then accessing porn, even CSE is no different to accessing any other service. People register to watch Netflix, YouTube Sky TV, by your estimation if its all the same so why be so coy?
