Women’s Lives Leeds offering a “private” women-only vaccination clinic, including graphics of women wearing religiously ‘modest’ clothing.
Open to anyone who identifies as a woman.
So men, then.

The organisation claims to be “empowering women and girls”. Aye, right.

OP posts:

Leeds City Council were responsible for organising this. What a surprise.

The councillor with portfolio responsibility who is taking credit is Cllr Salma Arif.

She needs to answer to this.

I think a women only vaccination clinic could be a very useful thing in encouraging vaccine uptake.
But not an "anyone-who-identifies-as-a-woman" clinic - as that completely defeats the point of having one in the first place.

SunsetBeetch · 21/05/2021 18:03

I see there's a man straight in there to congratulate them on their 'great wording'. Unless he's taking the piss.

Summerdayshaze · 21/05/2021 18:18

It absolutely would be a useful thing. But, of course, we can’t have anything for ourselves. They just had to ensure that men are welcome too.

AfternoonToffee · 21/05/2021 18:26

Oh FFS. This is trying to specifically target a group that has shown to have low uptake and they just open it up to everyone and so completely and totally defeating the purpose.

This is not being inclusive, when you are still excluding the very people you should be there for.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 21/05/2021 18:28

That could have disastrous consequences if women report that a transwoman was seen there in terms of vaccine takeup.

Artichokeleaves · 21/05/2021 18:46

Yet again, it's signalled that people born male must be prioritised when the whole point of funding and organising this clinic was to try and save lives of people born female, who have not been attending mixed sex clinics available to them .

I despair. There's a point at which organisations this thick should not be allowed to be in charge of public funds.

Bellringer · 21/05/2021 18:47

Ffs then they bleat on about low take up

MedusasBrandyButter · 21/05/2021 18:54

Indirect discrimination on thdgrounds of sex and of religion. Anyone crowdfunding for a challrnge, please say so. We can't let this arrogant discrimination go. This is a public health issue and a civic issue. They are not entitled to use public funds for this sort of bullshit favouritism.

BrilliantBetty · 21/05/2021 19:03

So it's still mixed sex then.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 21/05/2021 19:47

He's not. From the tags, it looks like he got to the post after it was shared by the twitter account LeedsLGBTinfo.

This session is now being promoted by trans activists, it looks like. No way this could go wrong, regarding the target group of the clinic.

Summerdayshaze · 21/05/2021 19:55

It is a monstrous irony.

OldCrone · 21/05/2021 19:59

They've tweeted this again today. There are a lot more replies to this one.

www.itv.com/news/calendar/2021-03-18/keighley-womens-only-vaccine-clinic-uk-first

'Dr Mahendra Patel from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society says having women-only vaccination centres is another step towards helping uptake.

"This could be a way of practice moving forward, not just for Covid vaccines, but other vaccines too", he said.

"Women may feel more at ease and at home. This will be a place where people from their own communities and their own genders are having vaccines."'

Their own gender? Hmm

nocoolnamesleft · 21/05/2021 20:05

Oh bloody hell. The whole point of a women only clinic is to include women who for cultural or religious reasons feel unable to bare an arm in the presence of male bodied people. Opening it up to transwomen in a bid to be inclusion is actually exclusionary of a very vulnerable group of women.

Whatwouldscullydo · 21/05/2021 20:09
Hmm

What a surprise

Lottapianos · 21/05/2021 20:14

A women only vaccination centre sounds like a great idea. What a joke it has turned out to be in practice. So sick and tired of women being potentially excluded from these 'inclusive' services

Artichokeleaves · 21/05/2021 20:21

Also demonstrates the total lack of respect for the needs of female people from those promoting how wonderfully mixed sex it is. The most important thing about single sex is to celebrate it being mixed sex.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 21/05/2021 21:00

An anyone-who-identifies-as-a-woman's vaccination clinic sounds like a woman's vaccination clinic with a few extra pricks.

Puddycatfan · 21/05/2021 21:47

I am heartened to read the responses on the feed upthread.

Hopefully the more idiotic things like this happen, the more the public at large will have a "Wait. What?" moment.

FemaleAndLearning · 21/05/2021 22:13

I wonder if this is true

“Women only vaccination clinic” guess the catch...
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 21/05/2021 22:53

Clinic dates are 24th-28th of May, so I don't think it's true. Unless this is the second in a series of women's only clinics.

allmywhat · 21/05/2021 23:25

This session is now being promoted by trans activists, it looks like

That is downright shitty behaviour. There’s no need for a transwoman to go to a female-only vaccination clinic. There’s no need for most women to go to a female-only vaccination clinic, it’s just a shot in the arm.

It’s so clearly targeted at Muslim women and they want to ruin that because... validation? Or just for the fun of wrecking a women’s resource?

A little from column A, a little from column B.

Whatever, it sickens me.

AfternoonToffee · 21/05/2021 23:56

They really have no fecking idea, though I guess when everyone tells you that you are the most oppressed in the world, then you can't see the barriers that others face.
