Stonewall hide organisations signed up as Diversity Champions

This morning Stonewall have hidden the list of all the organisations signed up to their diversity champions award behind a member's log in. Could this be connected to the Essex University report confirming that they have been offering wrong advice about the law to organisations? Are companies getting cold feet about being openly connected to them?

Recommendation from the Essex Uni report:
The University should give careful and thorough consideration to the relative benefits and disbenefits of its relationship with Stonewall, bearing in mind the issues raised in this report. In particular, it should consider that this relationship appears to have given University members the impression that gender critical academics can legitimately be excluded from the institution.

Stonewall must be hoping no one contacts their champions list and makes sure they know about the Reindorf Report from Essex University and related news stories and feminist commentary on this.

It would be deeply ironic if the act of them hiding the list, meant lots of people were inspired to do just that, wouldn't it? ...

Wow, I've just read the report into Essex Uni, it's damning, and actually says the Uni applied the law not as it is but how Stonewall would like it to be.
MinecraftMother · 19/05/2021 19:08

I had a lot of fun reading the Reindorf report. The uni have said they'll incorporate all reccies, except the one to reconsider Stonewall as a partner...

SmokedDuck · 19/05/2021 19:27

I'm curious, are there other organisations that have similar schemes like this, in other areas? I think there might be something environment related, and I'm sure there must be some others.

But Stonewall's is so huge, you have to wonder how it became a thing. It's almost lie many businesses and organisations feel they have to get the certification.

Even after being told quite categorically that Stonewall misinterpreted the law? Hmm There has to be a very unsavoury reason why they'd choose to do this.

Which is the best article on the Reindorf Report for someone new to this, do you think?

It's a shame the Times is paywalled :(

Does this work? I've not tried doing a share token before so not sure -

The BBC have also picked it up here

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-57170095.amp

The report itself is also very well written and readable, and the substantial redactions mean it isn't that long Wink

Good that the BBC have picked this up. A shame they overlooked Stonewall's contributions to the university having trans inclusion policies that were not in line with the law and led to the university committing discriminatory acts against women.
Wonder if other leaders of stonewall champion organisations (now hidden from public view) think about all the advice they've been given that doesn't comply with legislation - equality, safeguarding, health and safety as well as inclusion. As well as the awful consequences that more illegal guidance will have for women and children, the financial consequences from litigation could be massive.

5 x staff earn between 70,000 - 79,000

2 x staff earn over 100,000

I love annual accounts Grin

Wow, I'm in the wrong game. That's a lot of money to misrepresent the law.

Surely not - they're meant to be a neutral media organisation, not signing up to an organisation that argues against women having rights, sports, safe single sex spaces etc..... Grin

What I'm interested in is when they started misrepresenting the law - and how. Because surely the people in charge must have known. Was it a conscious decision? Mission creep?

Cleanandpress · 19/05/2021 21:49

I expect this will trigger a massive row between the various chamber sets. Some want to interpret the law Stonewall way and some won't.

It's a shit show staring all the barristers willing to line up and say men are women versus all the barristers who say really?

This fight will run and run.

In the meantime I am betting on the fact that we all know the truth.

UCU asked me to complete a survey about academic freedom at universities today - with a preamble that seemed to say 'the government have got a bee in their bonnet about this, but it's not really a problem for us, is it?'

This report provided some very useful evidence.

(Though I am still worried they'll hunt me down and ban me from the union for wrongthink.)

Cleanandpress · 19/05/2021 22:10

I will be following up with my QC and uni clients and advising them to make sure their policy working groups are formulated in the way recommended in the report, so including women, and that the other recommendations are formally assessed for impact.

I strongly recommend any one working in a uni write to the VC and HRD even if you have to do it anonymously.

ArabellaScott · 19/05/2021 22:30

@ArabellaScott

Well, well.

I see on Twitter they've just launched a new digital thingy, and the only comment is 'nobody cares'.

  • and they've deleted it.

The nobody cares comment? Somebody cared about that, it seems 😂

Lumene · 19/05/2021 22:42

Hiding the members list would be a good way of hiding numbers of orgs leaving after recent events.

lalamo · 19/05/2021 22:51

Have you all seen this? It's absolutely brilliant

I've just found the Stonewall action plan for my university. Apparently they've spotted a problem with our maternity policy: too much gendered language Shock

Can't have people talking about women and pregnancy. That's far too women centred. And your university has paid for that gaslighting tripe. Grin
