Stonewall hide organisations signed up as Diversity Champions

This morning Stonewall have hidden the list of all the organisations signed up to their diversity champions award behind a member's log in. Could this be connected to the Essex University report confirming that they have been offering wrong advice about the law to organisations? Are companies getting cold feet about being openly connected to them?

Recommendation from the Essex Uni report:
The University should give careful and thorough consideration to the relative benefits and disbenefits of its relationship with Stonewall, bearing in mind the issues raised in this report. In particular, it should consider that this relationship appears to have given University members the impression that gender critical academics can legitimately be excluded from the institution.

Government departments has gone along with this shit for years. Fucking years and years. The actual Home Office for christ's sake.

HeadIsFucked · 19/05/2021 15:10

I am cautiously hoping that the 'nasty women being trasphobic' excuse is bluster, and the real reasn is 'champions' are waking up to the very real implications for them for continuing to trust a ''charity' that has purposely LIED about the law. I mean, the amunt of shit said champions can get from this is insane. I understand theres a chance still that Essex Uni could be sued, if a GC staff member (or maybe even student) made a case for sex discrimination, from reading the full report anyways..and all based off stonewalls 'misrepresentation' of the current law.

Bloody hell! What a list. They must be making so much £££ out of their shoddy legal advice

Kit19 · 19/05/2021 15:15

Charities are allowed to have members only content but it really does look like you've something to hide when you used to have the Sunday Times publish the Stonewall top 100 employers complete with stories about how amazing said companies were and now dont even want people to know who the stonewall champions are....

Mollyollydolly · 19/05/2021 15:32

It seems a strange thing to do. Are they being asked to remove companies from the list I wonder because of the adverse publicity. Surely the main reason for companies to be a member is to show how virtuous they are. If they can no longer do this, what's the point of being a member? What a shame.

ShagMeRiggins · 19/05/2021 15:33

How much does it cost to be a Stonewall champion?

Frankly I find their hiding the list of champions laughable. Being a champion is essentially being a sponsor, and I’ve yet to meet a sponsor who doesn’t want their brand splashed around at every opportunity. No such thing as a Not Proud Sponsor.

Kit19 · 19/05/2021 15:49

the amount depends on the size and type of organisation (interestingly Stonewall also appear to have hidden the fee structure on the website as well)

the starting point for organisations is £2500

fees for schools and colleges are here
www.stonewall.org.uk/stonewall-school-college-champion-faqs#fees

How much does it cost to be a Stonewall champion

From memory it costs about £2.5k a year?

If you get bored you can trawl through these FOIs. www.whatdotheyknow.com/search/%23dontsubmittostonewall/all

There's some more accessible info about the police and Stonewall here

Kit19 · 19/05/2021 15:55

870 organisations are members of Stonewalls champions programme

over 1000 schools are champions

fee income from the champions programme totalled £3,269,377 in their last accounts which is about half their income

So interesting.

Erikrie · 19/05/2021 16:04

Goodness now why on earth would they want to hide that. Transparency is key right. Unless they're worried that they may lose income and potentially get sued for misrepresenting the law. 🤔

Leafstamp · 19/05/2021 16:08

Has anyone asked the question on Twitter (as to why they’ve hidden the list that is)?

SunsetBeetch · 19/05/2021 16:41

Jesus what on earth are they doing with all that money???

bitheby · 19/05/2021 16:49

It's not as easy as just paying the money to become a champion. There are loads of hoops to jump through. A company I once worked for looked at it and decided against it due to all the things that were required.

Well, yes. That's what we're saying. And it looks like many of them are not grounded in law. Some Stonewall 'hoops' take the applicant away from the safety of the law into the choppy waters of not-law.

That’s the thing isn’t it. Not only do you pay money ti be a champion But I’ve no doubt stonewall can also sell you consultancy to help you correct all the things you need to do in order to get through the hoops
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/05/2021 17:08

I thought you just paid your money to be champion which got you training and stuff, and the hoops are for the workplace equality index?

ArabellaScott · 19/05/2021 17:37

Well, well.

I see on Twitter they've just launched a new digital thingy, and the only comment is 'nobody cares'.

Jesus what on earth are they doing with all that money???
Trying to do away with sex-based rights for women.

The "digital thingy" looks like it might be worth keeping an eye on though.

equalrightscoalition.org

Since its establishment in 2016, the ERC has worked to bring together governments and civil society in pursuit of a common goal to advance the human rights of all people, and to ensure their inclusive development, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and sex characteristics.

...blah blah the usual bland pablum with careful sex-eliding and gender gibberish language but there are 42 governments involved and it was established in 2016, the precise year that a lot of us would pinpoint as the year the insanity really started taking off. It's interesting.

merrymouse · 19/05/2021 18:42

Bearing in mind what we know about Alison Bailey’s case and now Essex university, I suspect they are concerned that people will contact the champions and ask for details of advice given by Stonewall.
