"The fee to apply for a gender recognition certificate has been cut to £5, the government has announced.Ministers pledged in September to slash the cost of legally changing gender from £140 after deciding against wider reforms.

Women and Equalities Minister Liz Truss said the reduction removed a "barrier" for transgender people. While cost has been cited as an obstacle to applying, some LGBT groups say more work is needed.
The announcement comes nearly a month after the BBC revealed that the figure would be reduced.

A consultation was set up in 2018 to explore potential reforms to the way transgender people can apply for a gender recognition certificate (GRC) in England and Wales. This allows someone's acquired gender to be recorded on their birth and marriage certificates"

@Ereshkigalangcleg

I'm pretty sure this poster is campaigning for exactly that.
Yes, you're probably right. But do all the other people supporting self ID (including MPs) realise this? Do they understand that it means that everyone can choose their legally recognised sex?

Many of them say that they want to support trans people. But the people they are really helping are predatory males. Do they understand this?

Self ID fixes the problem

Self-ID would create a massive new problem.

According to the ICD, for someone to get a diagnosis of 'gender incongruence' a big list of paraphilias must first be excluded.

icd.who.int/browse11/l-m/en#/http%3a%2f%2fid.who.int%2ficd%2fentity%2f90875286

Campaigning for self-ID is campaigning for people* with Exhibitionistic disorder, Voyeuristic disorder, Pedophilic disorder, Coercive sexual sadism disorder, Frotteuristic disorder and Other paraphilic disorders involving non-consenting individuals, to change their birth certificates and be legally treated as the opposite sex for most purposes.

Why would anyone want to do that?

And what is 'the problem' self ID is supposed to fix exactly? Why does a trans person need to change their birth certificate in 2021?

*We all know that the kind of people who exhibit paraphilic disorders are massively, overwhelmingly male.

You also need a mountain of supporting documentation

The guidance says, Typically five or six different documents should be included with an application ... The panel can give directions for additional documents to be provided if necessary ... Please do not send large quantities of documents unless absolutely necessary.

GIRES says - The civil servants work directly with the applicants and do an excellent job in assisting applicants to put their information together in the most favourable way.

Also - The GRP is definitely minded to grant applications, wherever legally possible, which is why directions are given rather than making final decisions which might not be in favour of the applicant. So despite the high rate of requests for further information very few applications actually fail outright.

So that's all quite different from the home office or the DWP for example.
