Excellent questions being asked of Humza on twitter.

I believe he’s blocking women rather than answering.

Do any of our Muslim members know the answer to the question in the photo as Humza hasn’t answered it.

@Sexnotgender Who is Humza? I just tried to google him and it looks like there’s a Humza Yousaf who is an SNP candidate (his Twitter page) and also Scottish justice secretary? If he’s the person in question, what has he done? Can you please provide more context? I’m trying to now find out more about the Hate Crime bill that some posters have alluded to.

Waitwhat23 · 29/04/2021 09:13

This article is quite useful to understand the context - www.scotsman.com/news/politics/humza-yousaf-accused-of-ignoring-concerns-over-protections-for-free-speech-in-hate-crime-bill-3151019

Essentially, when the Hate Crime Bill was being discussed, various amendments had been suggested (such as adding sex as a category to be protected) which were then removed from discussion, most likely as a reaction to lobbying from particular groups. As Justice Minister, Humza Yousaf played a big part in that.

littlbrowndog · 29/04/2021 09:18

Yeah women are not protected under hate crime. As it’s too complex

But cross dressers are but not sure if that’s a woman in trousers

He also said that if a woman was perceived as being trans gender and a hate crime was committed against her then that was a hate crime

If she was just a woman then not a hate crime

Totally clear ?🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

littlbrowndog · 29/04/2021 09:19

Yeah sex was going to be added to the stupid bill but then but then but then but then

Well why bother

Sexnotgender · 29/04/2021 09:25

Thank you for the links @littlbrowndog and @Waitwhat23 I’m a bit slow right now as I have a 2 week old baby who just wants to feed constantly!

The Scottish Government announced that there would be a 'working party' to look at misogyny as a crime when pressed to explain why sex wasn't included as a category to be protected under the Hate Crime Bill.

The working party will take at least a year to discuss the issue and it will then take a minimum of a year to actually draft something to go into law. Women asked why, given the length of time it will take, sex or misogyny couldn't be included under the Hate Crime Bill in the meantime in order to protect women....

No answer

medebourne · 29/04/2021 09:29

Sex changes are not uncommon in Iran. Indeed, they are encouraged for gay men.

littlbrowndog · 29/04/2021 09:31

Congrats sexnotgender💐💐💐

Has the baby been assigned a gender yet 😉🤣

littlbrowndog · 29/04/2021 09:33

And humza still doesn’t know how many sexes there are

He was asked but felt that his brain had stopped working in that interview and couldn’t answer

Sexnotgender · 29/04/2021 09:38

In terms of this particular discussion (I.e. Humza Yousaf being asked whether a transman would be allowed into a sex segregated religious space), it relates to his change in position from January 2021 when he first proposed a protection for the discussion or criticism of transgender identity which was then dropped due to pressure from SNP members claiming it was 'transphobic'. However, he said 'On the other hand, I was also persuaded that additional provision for religion was needed … reflecting the nature of religion as a characteristic being distinctive and different to the other characteristics' which affords greater limitations to religious criticism or discussion.

littlbrowndog · 29/04/2021 09:50

Good to hear you are waiting 👏👏

frazzledasarock · 29/04/2021 10:29

No way on earth a person with a penis would be allowed to pray in the women's section in a mosque.

No way a transman would be allowed to be the one who makes the call to prayer, or lead a congregational prayer, or allowed to pray shoulder to shoulder with men.

I've never heard of this Hamza person btw.

If he's a practicing Muslim there is no way he personally would pray behind a transman leading prayer, his prayer would be invalid

ExitChasedByABee · 29/04/2021 17:49

Ok so what I can gather that this guy is passing a bill in Scotland that will protect those who are trans but not biological women? Can someone please explain what Ms Lamont, Labour MSP is trying to say? Is she for or against the Bill? Or does she just want to amend it but she’s not opposed to it?

Waitwhat23 · 29/04/2021 17:58

I believe Johann Lamont supported the Bill in general but asked for amendments to be made to include sex, which were voted down. I believe Adam Tomkin asked for amendments to allow private discussion in your own home to be free from legal action but again, I think this was voted down (I need to check).

Thank you. I just read the BBC article. It all sounds unclear, who defines what is threatening behaviour? What does he mean by a reasonable person. It sounds very subjective Confused

Mr Yousaf said: "If you are sitting round the dinner table having a debate about transgender identity and your view is that a man can't transition to a woman, that won't get you prosecuted.

"If your behaviour is found to be threatening or abusive by a reasonable person and it was intended to stir up hatred - and that can be proven beyond reasonable doubt - then you will be prosecuted."

334bu · 29/04/2021 18:12

I don't think Humans will have any difficulty believing two totally opposing things at the same time. After all he tweeted this

mobile.twitter.com/humzayousaf/status/1299691570011217921?lang=en

while at the very same time as Justice Minister he is responsible for sending male prisoners into female only prisons.
A weather vane has nothing on Humza

334bu · 29/04/2021 18:13

Humza stupid autocorrect!

BetsyM00 · 29/04/2021 18:15

Johann Lamont proposed an amendment to the Forensic Medical Services bill to allow rape victims to ask for a forensic examiner of a specific sex (rather than gender). Having initially refused to change the wording in the bill, the SNP dropped their opposition at the last minute. Only the Greens and LibDems voted against the amendment. The bill was passed into law last December.
www.thenational.scot/news/18936441.msps-overwhelmingly-vote-replace-gender-sex-rape-support-law/

Since then we have had the Hate Crime Bill which, despite the independently commissioned review recommending sex be added to the characteristics covered, the Scottish Govt refused to do. We are left with a law that now protects cross-dressing men, but not women.

Humza Yousaf was the Justice Minister responsible for the Hate Crime Bill and it is also under his watch that Police Scotland will allow rape suspects to self-identify as a woman...and the crimes will be recorded in the female statistics and the rapist will most likely go to a women's prison.

Humza blocked a woman on Twitter rather than answer her very reasonable question, hence the hashtag AskHumza where he was asked lots of questions. And for a man seeking the popular vote ahead of the election it tells you all you need to know about his character that he chose to blank hundreds of women.

Think that's you brought up to speed!

ExitChasedByABee · 29/04/2021 18:21

Thank you so much Brew. I had no idea this was happening Sad I am surprised this Bill was allowed to be passed and now to repeal it will be difficult without alienating the trans/pro trans voters.

MidsomerMurmurs · 29/04/2021 18:34

@littlbrowndog

Congrats sexnotgender💐💐💐

Has the baby been assigned a gender yet 😉🤣

Congrats, and good question about whether a gender has been assigned but also what about the sex of the baby: haven’t we repeatedly been told that sex too is assigned at birth in some mysterious process? Or has that changed now?

(it’s hard to keep up given that certain organisations spent ages saying that people could be born in the wrong body, but now apparently they never said that and nobody ever said that…)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/04/2021 18:37

We are left with a law that now protects cross-dressing men, but not women.

Just to be clear this poster is not calling transwomen "cross dressing men". This bill specifically protects cross dressing men in addition to transwomen (and everyone else apart from women).

Sexnotgender · 29/04/2021 18:58

The mysterious voodoo of sex assignment has given us a female child @MidsomerMurmurs

Scotland is an absolute shitshow right now for women’s rights.

Ironically the only party really putting their head above the parapet and explicitly standing up for women’s rights is Alba. When I’d rather vote for a party lead by Alex Salmond than a woman I know we’re in the twilight zone.
